Tinnitus Since
January 2016
Cause of Tinnitus
Possibly stress
Hello everyone,

My name's Penny. I'm 16 and got tinnitus in January this year. I have been to a tinnitus clinic and they determined that my hearing is normal and that my tinnitus is probably from stress. Has anyone ever experienced stress related tinnitus? A lot has been going on lately and my tinnitus switched on one night and hasn't left since, this has made me considerably more distressed. Any advice would be much appreciated! :)

One more thing, my ears have been looked at and there is no wax or anything medically suspicious going on but every time I swallow I hear a crackling and my ears often block and pop. Also, as of today I noticed a clicking when I chew in my left ear? This all seems bizarre?! Do you think this will last forever? And is all this crackling and blocking just another form of tinnitus?

Thanks in advance :rockingbanana:

The crackling and popping when you chew or swallow is likely your eustachian tube opening up a little.

A number of members here do attribute their tinnitus to stress. You're young and don't seem to have hearing damage, so the odds of it getting better or going away seem pretty good.

Welcome to the forum. Have you got your eustachian tube checked out by ENT for inflammation or blockage?

You may have Eustachian Tube Disfunction or ETD when the tube is blocked or swollen due to inflammation. The symptoms are ear pain, ear fullness or pressure, popping & cracking, dull hearing, etc. It usually will improve after the tube is back to normal after some time. So don't worry. Here is a good site to read up on it to see if your symptoms fit the description of ETD:

Sorry to hear about your Tinnitus. I would not want to be sixteen years old again. It is a stressful time. Do what you can to stay calm. Blessings. Hope you feel better.

Thanks Rintintin! :)

I had my ears looked down and I assumed that if there was any inflammation or blockage they would be able to see? Is there a separate way to check for ETD? :)
