Tinnitus Since
9/2015
Hi i am 34 yrs old male living in Bangkok just got tinnitus over a week ago (constant high pitch ringing noise in left ear. Constant ring never goes away since started).

Before Tinnitus, i got eye floaters in early June. 3mths later i became quite habituated to those but as i researched more i came to know about tinnitus. I then monitored myself (silly of me) and then i got it and started to ring louder and louder. I went to ENT the morning after, did hearing test, audiogram etc. and was told i got tinnitus.

Suspect it was due to gunshot wound (its sound and/or its damage) causing hearing loss in high pitch frequency. But that was 8 yrs ago. Perhaps i had T before without realuzing. Im not even sure if that incident caused it or something else (i was and still am under a lot of stress. Due to other reasons too.).

I found eye floaters much easier to habituate as there are moments rest each day (sunglass) and that my home is of darker background. But im having a very hard time dealing with T as its giving me no rest and i find it very very hard to get through each day. Even with masking and stress relief pill i feel i cannot go on much longer and it has been only around 1.5 week passed. I have been trying to stay positive and to ignore it but the noise is constant making it very hard. Do ppl with this constant ringing habituate? Or only thise with noise that come and go.

I am at a low point in my life right now and appreciate very much any help.

Welcome to TT. Don't panic and don't despair. We understand what you are going through. We have been there where you are now. So members here have empathy for your sufferings. Since your T is so new, you may want to get your doctor to prescribe a course of prednisone. Members here often recommend this for new T sufferer or when there is infection. As far as the suffering, the endless ringing, the fear, anxiety, depression and sleeplessness etc., they are all very normal when T is new or when it kicks into another level.

We all had experienced the T trauma to varying degree. I went through hell with my ultra high pitch dog whistle T and severe hyperacusis a few years back. I was in a mess for a while. But now I am living a normal life, enjoying and living it abundantly despite the T still being there. I wrote my success story like many other members. Do read up as many success stories as you can to learn how to get better. If you have time, here is my story as well as the most read success story of I Who Love Music.

Give it time. It is the common element of success for most people. Time will heal and your perception of T can change. Trying to be positive can definitely help. The first step towards positivity is to read up on the success stories and the Positivity Thread. They give you hope and you can learn some insights how to get better. Being positive will help reduce stress which is bad for T. So keep being positive, seek some helpful strategies such as CBT, TRT, mindfulness meditation, exercise, hobby, etc. etc. Try take supplements such as NAC, Magnesium, B12, D3 etc. and see if you need some diet change to cut down on intake of salt, sugar, MSG, caffeine, alcohol etc. Use wisdom there as you still need to enjoy your life. You may not have the right masking sound if T bothers you still with masking. Here is a TT thread with some nice tips and some excellent masking sounds, and it has link to a sleep thread too. Take good care and God bless.

When T first started for me it was loud in one of my ears, then moved to my head and right ear. When it spiked, I could not mask it. Now, a year later, it does not seem as loud. I notice it every day (more so at night), but it is bearable.

Yes, that's how it is for most of us who have had T for awhile. We may still be able to hear it, but it no longer bothers us so much, and it is at a more bearable level.

The best thing you can do is to give it some time, and try to live your life as normally as possible. We also have a lot of suggestions here at Tinnitus Talk for things that will help you during those first months. Having background noise around really helps, especially when you're trying to sleep. A sound machine or a special app can help, or even running a fan in the background can make a difference.

I have a couple of supplements that I take that seem to help me, including magnesium chloride, and N-Acetylcistene. Other people may have additional suggestions for you.

I know it's hard right now, but for most of us, things do improve in time.

Best wishes,
Karen

Thank you for the responses.

now 4am i cannot sleep. im having a major spike (loudest so far) and pain the the ears.

masking is of no help right now =(

Yes, I had the same situation a year ago. I also had the ear pain. Sounds were very loud and distorted. Please know it gets so much better.

You haven't had tinnitus for long. So it's early days it might just go away but if it doesn't you will gradually get used to it we all do to a certain extent. Wish you all the very best. And stay strong .

I had pain in my ear, too, when my T first started. (I only have tinnitus in one ear). However, that pain gradually subsided, and today I have no pain at all. There is a lot of reason to hope that your ear pain will go away, with time.

For now, try to get some sleep, if at all possible, and try not to stress too much. For most people, stress makes the spikes even worse. You are going to be all right; it will just take a little time.

Lots of hugs,
Karen

Have you taken anything for sleep? Sometimes, meds are the only thing one can count on to get some sleep especially initially. So if you feel you need it, talk to the doctor for help. You can also try natural
alternatives such as Camomile tea, Hops, Valerian tablets, Melatonin etc. Check out this site on using natural herbs for sleep problem:

Really appreciate kind advices. But i think im going crazy. Everything vibrating. I can feel the vibration on my neck my teeth. :-(

I am feeling very sorry for my wife. Giving her such a hard time. How am i going to survive this???????? :'-(

@janevit,

The vibrations could be caused by stress, or by something else. Do you have any neck or jaw problems? Sometimes TMJ can cause tinnitus, and could have something to do with your vibrations as well. Maybe you could consider going to a doctor, TMJ specialist, or dentist to be checked, and to at least rule that out.

Hi Janevit ... it's obviously an extremely difficult time that you are going through right now. I'm pretty sure that most of us have experienced that initial sense of panic, which cuts through the whole of our lives ... where every moment is taken-up with only being able to focus on that life-shattering noise.

But believe me, it will get better ... and you are doing the best thing you can by being in contact with people who care about you, who understand your emotions, and certainly know how to guide you into a safer place.

You will survive this, Janevit ... never for one moment doubt that!

All my best wishes and prayers to you and your wife ..... Paul

5 days since last post. Each day has been a fight. I have been trying to be as positive as possible. But still it is very hard. The mornings have been bad as they are a constant reminder of T every moment i wake up. Evenings have been not as hard as i try to keep myself calm. I started meditating and also praying. Plus i have my wife with me at night makes me feel better.

I have given up hope on it leaving. But i am hopeful on habituation. I believe it could be similar to my eye floater habituation. My mind was so hard pressed on it but after months i became ok. Floaters didnt go away or lessen but i dont notice as much and dont bother me. I hope this is the same with T. But its rly hard to have my mind off it due to constant ringing 24/7. I also checked tinnitustalk forum very regularly everyday. Is this normal?

Last night i had one little good moment. Not sure if it was because of stress relief pill i took. After meditation and praying, the noise came to a low level and i could be myself again (felt unloaded) and a few laughs too. That lasted about an hour (the only exception to conatant ringing 24/7) before i went to bed.

This morning the ringing came back and is now quite loud. I hate it most when the frequency/vibration shifted from left ear to be in my mouth/throat. It is an awful sensation. I dont think its TMJ as i had MRI scan on monday and nothing of sort. No tumor either.

I am thankful of this forum. Im relatively very new to this and any advice/thought will be much much much appreciated.

Btw me and my wife plan to have a baby even before i got T. Which make me extra worry. Will i be able to become a good capable father. I can hardly concentrate on my work as is. Will i be able to handle it in a way that a child will properly receive. This worry me quite a lot and feel sry to my wife too :-(
