Cause of Tinnitus
No idea :(
I have tinnitus mainly in my right ear which is a high pitched violin two tone sound and it's hideous and cause me to wince in silence or when I hear it. I noticed the t in my left ear making electrical noises like a saw and last night started with a hissing. I'm so upset because I've not slept and had to go work. I'm scared I'll end up losing my job because I'm a wreck.

I can't use masking at night because it irritates me more than the tinnitus. The noise of birds or music is too much - it would keep me awake. I'm lay here now listening to the din of this violin sound constantly and I want to tear my hair out.

Doctor sending me for MRI and I'm scared of the machine being noisy and making my t worse and worried what they'll find. Why am I being sent for a scan? In terrified because I don't know why.

Good afternoon,
They'll do an MRI to rule out a tumor that is the cause of your tinnitus. Do not worry , there is little probabe , it is part of the protocol. To avoid further discomfort , take some earplugs for that day. regards

Indeed take some earplugs, you will get headphones on in the MRI machine but I did not find that sufficient. Maybe take some valerian root to take some of the stress away?

Hi Vicki,

The first thing you should do is to take back control. When you lose control, you think and act irrationally!

You posted that your tinnitus started in March 2016, as did mine due to accoustic trauma (not loud music, but a loud motor that popped my ear while I was sitting in traffic). For the first two weeks, I was beside myself and thought "I am 43 and I have to live with this thing for the rest of my life?" Then, after reading several posts from this site, I took control and decided that tinnitus is nothing - and that's what it is -- a phantom noise only you can hear.

Here is the key to living with tinnitus. Read this next line several times. When you stop fearing tinnitus, it will no longer bother you because your brain will dismiss it as non-threatening.

As for an MRI, it is for your benefit! He could have sent you for a CAT scan, but an MRI is more detailed (and insurance companies don't like it because the test is very expensive).

In closing, you need to work on your reaction to tinnitus; stop fighting it! Just let it win and your stress and anxiety levels will drop immensely! Good luck.

Buy some ear plugs that have 30db protection and make sure you have them in good. Don't use the ones they give you b/c they aren't as good. Don't let them put them in for you either. It might take you a while to get them in right. Don't let them make you hurry. You want to make sure they're in right. You'll be ok. They're not that bad.

How was the MRI
How are u? I have to get one too and I'm scared of the noise, was it ok with earplugs and the earmuffs
Hi Karen.
Don't worry about the MRI. Mine was clear and it only took 10 minutes.
Trust me it won't make your tinnitus worse, I promise you a million percent. Take ear plugs and they'll give you headphones and it is over in ten mins, if it's an IAM. Internal Auditory Meatus (just side, covering ears). Trust me, you'll be fine. I didn't notice any difference in my T at all.
In fact, it was quieter that night!! Probably cause I wasn't as stressed as I'd gone the MRI and I was worried.
Promise you'll be ok x

Thanks for responding. I'm new to this site , I hope I will be ok, I can't handle louder t
❤️
I absolutely no but you have no choice but to let it do what it does and the more you stress the worse it'll get trust me. Try some deep breathing exercises before bed tonight.
So big inhale through your nose and gently breath out as if you're playing a flute. Do that for 5 minutes and let yourself settle a bit.

My t is hissing and doing my head in today but it was fairly last night. I've given up trying to figure out what makes it change. It will be what it is and no amount of resisting will change it. My reaction is the issue and getting myself in a state fuels the fire. It's hard but I am trying. Try to do the breathing. Please don't worry about MRI because that won't affect your t at all xx

When I yawn my tinnitus is always much louder. Also ironically I can tolerate much better tinnitus in both ears than in one. My tinnitus started last march, getting louder and louder after being stressed and reading sad stories about bad cases of tinnitus, but after calming down, from June to August it almost DISAPPEARED. Came back after putting salt water in eustachian tube and the usual onset of depression every september.
