New Tinnitus Sufferer

And i try to remind myself that some people have it much more bad then I have....and that i should be "grateful" but....oh boy is it hard!! :(

I feel do sorry for myself and for everyone else suffering from this...soooo sorry....it is unbelivable that such a horrible horrible condition exicts....it has kinda changed my life perspective....life is very cruel!

It is really hard to describe "my sound" but I wouldnt call it loud....it is just like....really high pitched in a way that makes it break trough most other sounds, but it is not particually load...i mean....i can hear even faint sounds easily with it.
And thank you....

You are in the early stages of tinnitus @TheDanishGirl and it affects each person differently because no two people experience it the same. In other words, what you're experiencing is unique to you. Your mind is focused on the tinnitus at the moment because it is something new and most people that experience tinnitus are affected in this way. However, in time the brain starts to focus on it less. The link that I have given you please read the article as I believe it will be of some help.

Try not to think that other people have it worse than you because no-one knows what you're going through. You must try not to be too hard on yourself. Read the article I have sent you.

I know you're scared, but I really think you T is just a temporary condition. It is almost unheard of for somebody to just develop permanent T without a reason (injury, accident, illness, long term exposure to noise)
Before the Tinnitus did you start taking any new medication or supplement? Sometime that can have a side effect. Any changes to your diet? Eating new foods? spices?
I know the first month or 2 are really hard and really scary. I'm 8 months in and my T has faded about 75%. I'm hoping I'll be all clear by the 1 year mark.
Right now you need to concentrate on one day at a time, avoid loud noise and try to heal. I believe 100% that you will make a full recovery and have your silence back. Then you can write your success story here to help others. Nobody knows what it's like except the people who go thru it.

Faded as in disappearing, or you mean you've habituated that good?

If you literally mean T fading away, is it possible? Isn't T that last more than some months considered chronic ?

I really give praise to this board and you people trying to help me (and others). It means the world to me!

I have vowed to myself that if my tinnitus goes away or i habituate with it, I will do whatever i can to contribute to fighting this terrible thing.

Faded as in gone. no noise, no habituated. Yes, it's not only possible for T to fade, the vast majority does fade.
12 years ago I got terrible T from exposure to noise. It was horrible, but it completely faded away in about 18 months. I'm now experiencing my second bout with T from noise exposure. Again, it was terrible, but it has faded 75% in 8 months. T is not always permanent, in fact it is usually temporary, it can fade for up to 2 years.
I know there are members here who have had it for years, and for them it is permanent, and I feel really bad for them, but most people do heal unless it has a medical reason or years of noise exposure.

Good news! But I think about those poor souls in this forum that have had T for like years and years. I don't know if its faded away some for them or if it's always been the same.

Yes, for some people it is permanent, but like I said, usually there is an injury, medical reason or long term noise exposure like factory work that caused their T. Most people simply recover and get on with their life. It just takes a long time
Don't get me wrong, having T is the hardest thing I've had to endure in my life. Even though mine is healing nicely, it has been a struggle that only fellow Tinnitus sufferers know. It truly is a life changing event.

The first time is extremely hard (have had it about 6 weeks) and I have something made my situation a bit worse when I have been out for a bit too loud audio side I got it. I have between 1-3 tones. But it gets better I'm already close to turning it over (my body is) My nervous system is mostly at the bottom so I can relax and I do not regret for a long time longer (lies in my room that is Very quiet hear the sounds clearly and hear it most of the day but I'm fine and feel I'm okay) I'm working on thinking I'm not going to think about it constantly which is the hardest part but I'm coming There 100% at a time) hope you soon get better and believe in me and all the others you will get better.

Hi @TheDanishGirl
Listen to @Zug @Michael Leigh , @glynis and the others. Read the success stories and try @I who love music 's Back to silence. We have all been there, you will overcome this, albeit takes time. Best wishes Phil

@TheDanishGirl did you used to listen to music through headphones regularly or attend clubs, concerts or the cinema often?

Yes, i have been a heavy user of music through headphones, load music..but my hearing is perfect.

I sincerely regret my headphone use. I was not aware that you could have cronic tinnitus....if only i had known.

My tinnitus was caused by headphone use @TheDanishGirl and I have no hearing loss. Exposure to loud sounds/noise is the most common cause of tinnitus and most probably it was headphones that caused your tinnitus. The good news, your tinnitus is likely to reduce with time and your brain will focus on it less. I strongly advise you to never use headphones again even at low volume. Some ENT doctors might tell you that's is okay to listen to music through headphones as long as the volume is kept low.

These doctors know all about the anatomy of the ear but most of them know very little about tinnitus as they have never experienced it. Some people with tinnitus use headphones and they have no problems. However, I believe a person whose tinnitus was caused by loud sounds/noise shouldn't use headphones. The choice is yours.

There are many people at tinnitus talk that habituated to their tinnitus and it was low. They started using headphones again and the tinnitus increased to a new level and stayed there.

If i can never listen to music or maskers trough headphones again i would not want to go on living and i mean that. Music trough headphones is my release and a great joy (or it has been, right now nothing is a joy)

I am a HI-FI enthusiast @TheDanishGirl and used to listen to music a lot through headphones which eventually caused my tinnitus. That was 21 years ago. I have not used headphones since and still enjoy my music through speakers.

It is your choice whatever you decide to do. Only you know what you are feeling at this moment and what caused it. If you return to using headphones (even at low volume) in my opinion, you are taking a risk. If your tinnitus gets worse because of headphone use, please remember I did advise you not to use them.

I wish you well
All the best
Michael

Same here! I was aware that it could lead to hearing loss. But hearing loss appears to be a lot less tortuous compared to tinnitus...
Yea, same here. I always thought people protected their ears to avoid hearing loss. Hearing loss is child's play compared to Tinnitus. There needs to be better education so people realize there are things a lot worse than hearing loss.

Hang in there. I suffered single sided deafness at xmas whilst out partying. I'm now deaf in my left ear,and suffer horrendous tinnitus. It actually gets louder in my head when I listen to anything in my good ear, sick joke or what? I thought of suicide but now 6 months in its getting better and I'm glad I didn't go any further
. There are times that I forget about it. For fleeting moments. It'll get better and quieter. The first few weeks were awful but it gets better. I promise

Just continue with all the things that you used to do. You can beat it

Print out success stories from this site and read them at night. That kept me going. I promise it'll help

Good luck

is your T getting quieter or are you just adjusting better to it? Also, is your hearing in your left ear improving? I'm so sorry this happened, and hope for your recovery. Only fellow Tinnitus sufferers know what it's like, and understand when someone talks of suicide. Hopefully you are/will improve

@jjflyman no its the same. If I go into public spaces with background noise my t goes as loud pro rata in my deaf ear. So no it hasn't, although I have got less sensitive to it. I'm hoping it'll slowly quieten down over time. It's 6 months in, and my ENT specialist says its very early days, and that time is a big healer. He thinks that 1 to 2 years is a better time frame. Also no i an deaf in my left ear which is permanent. Thats difficult along with the tinnitus that goes up and down all the time, but I'm better than day 1

According to my experience's with 2 bouts of T, your ENT is spot on. My first bout (12 years ago) took 18 month's (maybe even longer) to fully fade to zero. It was the hardest 18 months of my life.
I'm 8 months in a second bout with T and it's faded, but it's slow. I wish you the best in your recovery.
PS..Am I to understand you "hear" your Tinnitus in your deaf ear too?

weirdly I only hear it there, unless its tbe dead of night then I hear it in the good ear. I'm counting down the days until its quieter, so thanks for the positive vibes @jjflyman
