My adult daughter has been having a ringing in her ears since last night's car accident. Today she was diagnosed with a mild concussion, mainly because of the tinnitus. I hope it goes away soon.

Ask doc about predsinone treatment, might be overkill, but it's an option, maybe wait 72 hours first to see if it settles, but keep that option open

Believe me, taking steroids for a while is way better than permanent tinnitus. Of course it's not a guaranteed treatment.

Nonsense about fear of steroids, you are her dad, don't take no for an answer, this is absolutely critical and life changing if she gets it.

If she doesn't try, she could regret it for the rest of her life, and that isn't fun

There is controversial, limited, not very good evidence that steroids ever do anything useful in the case of acoustic trauma. There is sizeable, well reviewed, well replicated evidence that in very rare cases even short-term use of steroids causes severe and in some unfortunate cases long-term/permanent side effects. So, this is not a zero-sum game, by any stretch of the imagination.

Because for SHL from noise, success is 35-50%, and that's a fact.

I've seen a bunch of different studies; some have shown a benefit, others have not. So I am curious what you're basing this "fact" on...

Additionally, in the studies which seemed to show the strongest benefit, the window for administration after the trauma was minutes to hours, not hours to days (and the effect faded significantly even over that short period).

The best data for efficiency is for SSNHL, which is a completely different animal than noise trauma, and even there it's not very good. If people want to take steroids and can do so quickly, by all means they should, but they should be well aware that it's a crapshoot and poorly understood.
