Cause of Tinnitus
Loud Music
Hello All,
Glad to see may helping people around here. I am male, 30 years old. Let me tell how my Tinnitus has started. 5 days ago I drove to 400 miles drive in SUV while listening to very loud music, in fact, I have been listening to loud music for very long time, 10 years or more. I have attended many concerts, have many headphones and go to ravings too some times.
After driving 400 miles to have a vacation, I started feeling very light ringing sound in my left year but I thought it was because of lot of driving and would go away after good sleep. I woke up in the morning but its still there. I waited for two days and went to ENT. Doctor did a sound test and told me that there is a light hearing loss but I can hear everything normally without any issues. I also asked him that when will my Tinnitus go away, he said it would go away between 4 to 6 weeks. He did not give me any medications, he said I dont have any wax so no need of cleaning ears. But he just gave me some over the counter vitamins (Lipo-Flavonoid). Its been 6 days now, its not getting better but worse. Should I be worried? or just wait for 4 to 6 weeks as doctor mentioned?

My advice would be this,
-Don't expose your ears to any loud noise for now or the foreseeable future, protect your hearing from loud noises from this day forth.

-Buy some vitamin B12,NAC and Magnesium

-Remember to relax, don't get too worried about it as it may reduce or disappear completely in time.

-Excercise,try and get as much blood flowing to the ears as possible

-Steroids might be a good idea also but discuss this with your doctor.

Hi @Ramki,
Welcome to Tinnitus Talk,
You have had great advice off @bill 112 Prednisalone can help with early onset tinnitus taken asap.
It's going to take a while to see if your tinnitus goes way but sound therapy can help distract you from your tinnitus in the day and night.

Protect your ears from loud sounds and keep music below 80db and For the time being I would not use headphones or earphones to give your tinnitus every chance of going .
I hope your sleeping well still and sound therapy played through the night set below your tinnitus can help your brain build up it's natural filter by focusing on the lower sound you have chosen and learn your brain not to focus on your tinnitus sound .

Have a happy Christmas and we are here around the clock to support you...lots of love glynisl

Thank you all @glynis @bill 112 for great advises! I will follow as all of you advised. I have few questions please help me to understand as I am in very confused stage to know the answers for below questions.
1) I drive Ford Mustang V6, its not too loud but a little bit louder than regular cars. Is it ok to drive? at least to work about 10 mile one way?
2) Should I wear ear plugs for long periods of time? I noticed that: after removing earplugs, i feel even more ringing.
3) Is it ok to watch movies in theater? Not IMAX though!!
4) Is it ok to drive long trips in car? I like road trips, I do a lot. but, is it ok to use little bit music, and cover one ear with earplug? I cannot use ear plugs in both the ears while driving car as per the Law!
5) I know this is a dumb question but very desperate to ask: Should I stop smoking?

Here is my current T state:
So far my T is loud but not hurting me to fall asleep. I can sleep well!
Only Left ear has constant ringing, right ear rings for few mins in a day and stops.
I am taking Lipo-Flavonoid for a week and dont see any result.
I will start taking B12 as you suggested.

Thank you all for reading my post, have a happy new year and enjoy ur holidays!

With ear plugs! You can use musician earplugs for better sound.

I guess you have to go to work so you don't really have a choice do you? :p I would not listen to music in your car, at least for some time.

5) I know this is a dumb question but very desperate to ask: Should I stop smoking?

I used to be an occasional smoker and I quit as it spiked my tinnitus.

2) Should I wear ear plugs for long periods of time? I noticed that: after removing earplugs, i feel even more ringing.

It's a difficult subject lol. A lot of people have very strong opinions on that.

Wear them in loud places! But I would strongly advice against using them "all the time" while at home, unless you're annoyed by some noises. Do you have sound sensitivity? Are some sounds irritating? Suppringly loud?

Hi ramki, u should avoid all types of loud noise first anyhow. And ask ur Dr to make one MRI. I hv been suffering T since over 2 months by useing headphone very much. First 25 days it was so loud. After taking ginkgo biloba as my doctor advised it's lowered 50% at this time. Don't be nervous, try to be cool, and off course no alcohol no smoking.
Wishing ur good health my bro

1:If it's a newer Mustang and it's a hard top then I can't see it being overly loud especially if the standard exhaust system is still on it.

2:Don't wear earplugs for normal noise in your home but wear them in elevated noisey environments or when using tools etc.

3:No,I wouldn't recommend it personally.

4:If the car is quiet then I don't see why not, road noise can be harsh in some cars but overall these newer cars are a lot quieter than their older counter parts. My 99 Toyota Chaser is only 74db on the motorway at full pelt, even while going flatout hard in it the most I've ever seen was 80db on my meter.

5:As for smoking I would say yes,not for your ears but just overall health.

@Bidyut saha Hello Bro, Thank for your message. I Went to ENT already a week ago, see the experience in my first post. he said it would go away in 4 to 6 weeks and gave me Lipo-Flavonoid. Anyway, I am trying to visit another ENT soon. Thanks again for message and happy new year!

Thank you @bill 112 your tips are very helpful. I started to ignore it so that I feel good! Have a happy new Year!

@Ramki the advice here so far is solid. I'd suggest against the music in the car. you dont realize it, but even "low" music in the car has to compete with roughly 80db of road noise. after driving, park and turn the engine off, and see how loud the radio is. it'll seem a lot louder than you expected. I listen to stand up comedy in my car most of the time now as it doesn't have to be as loud to enjoy it. remember - it's not forever. you'll heal more now than any other time so it's worth the investment for a few months.

Awesome Tip @Tom Cnyc Thanks for your suggestions. I will keep it quite to heal my T! I am trying to make my car more quieter by installing some sound proof mats. Have a happy new year!

I do the same thing at home, when doing the dishes :D I used to listen to music to make it a little more enjoyable, but yeah, tinnitus.

I love stand-up (especially Scottish comedians :D )
