New University of Michigan Tinnitus Discovery — Signal Timing

Dr. Shore has even less publications than Dirk de Ridder / Paul vd Heyning. So why should she solve it?
Don't mean to be skeptical but don't understand why we put so much faith into non hard evidence aka research papers.
If you read her papers on the first trial, it showed "promising results"...on humans. For the first time, people response to a treatment against tinnitus. That's why.

Elon Musk knew nothing about rockets 20 years ago, but here we are today with the most cost effective solution to putting things into space with SpaceX.

Shows proof that with a lot of money you can buy the necessary skills and knowledge. But nothing about that he created the solution himself. Don't mean to be skeptical but "seeying is believing" is a strong one in The Netherlands.
We have been promised good things before. Don't get it when peoples hopes are put up high when there is nothing touchable yet either in the form of pills or a device to put inside your body that stops it.

We also have no idea what would happen if people use this device everyday, more than recommended, or for a longer period of time. It is driving change, eventually when that switch happens and change has occurred... then what.

I think this is the most interesting questions...I worry about over use and other confounding effects. If it slows down signal firing in your DCN, is it possible that people begin lagging in their speech? Imagine a world where you saw people speak but it was like a bad dub... and you were stuck that way.

Just a thought.

Have they brought this up as a concern of the machine?

I'd rather an off-timed dub than an on-timed dub with non-stop dreadful shrieking in the background. :banghead:
But yeah I definitely get the point.

I know when the cure for tinnitus will be found. You want to know??

Wait for it... Wait for it...

OK when they find a way to regenerate hair cells... That is in about 1000 years from now.
you're so wrong. this type of comment is ignorant and detrimental. hold your tongue if you're going to be ignorant like this.

No. He is right...! Tinnitus is a symptom that tells us that our nerve fibers are damaged. No way to repair it unless we grow a new one!
You don't know that. It could also be simply from a loss of hair cells, or nerve damage, or a combination. And no this person cannot possibly say it will take 1000 years to be cured.

Either way. It is a very complicated condition. This machine will not work. We need a chemical pill that will help us to grow hair cells/repair nerves.

not a pill, an injection into the ear. anything that regenerates our cochlea probably cannot be administered orally (systemically) without causing other weird side effects. this is purely my opinion.

I certainly hope both of these methods give people relief. I'm having a hard time buying into an ear injection that generates new hair cells and the nerves they need. I hope I'm wrong. I guess we'll see.

You have my attention.

I'd love to hear why this machine won't work.

I disagree. Regrowing hair cells has in no way yet proven to eliminate tinnitus.
With the three upcoming, scientifically backed devices and treatments, there seems to be, for the first time, a proper way to lessen tinnitus symptoms.

The tinnitus came back for those people that reported to have felt relief - meaning - it does not work.

I hope. Mine is 100% noise induced. It can't change moving the neck or jaw. Nothing.
my tinnitus is noise induced and yawning and neck movement makes it louder, it has to do with the auditory brain and regions of the brain associated with jaw/neck movements being in close proximity i believe.

Because you damaged your nerve fibers, cells... an electric stimulation won't grow or fix it.

It isn't meant to repair or fix that. It is meant to stop the cells from sending the signal to the brain which creates the sounds.

You're talking about it not working for damage to your ear correct. I think this machine will work for somatic tinnitus or people that have tinnitus from neck and jaw issues.

They have stated it can be used for people with all kinds of tinnitus.

No duh. But it is the absolute best hypothesis that if your tinnitus came from hearing loss then reversing hearing loss will reverse tinnitus. Theres also 16 people that have been give the drug and they will know very soon. You have to be completely insane not to be interested in the outcome here.

I seem to remember reading they are/were waiting on hardware from a manufacturer.
They already got the device now.

They are only calling in a few people at a time because they can't call all 50 in at once... They are having a hard time to accommodate everyone, once a week for six months.

This person is still waiting to be called to start in the trial...

I think this will take more time than expected.
