Cause of Tinnitus
LOAD CONCERT
I went to a concert a week ago and my ears have been ringing ever since. The tickets were a gift for my 67th birthday coming later this month. The show was great but way too loud. I wish now I would have thought ahead and taken some ear plugs or at least a little cotton. It's very upsetting to me to think that I'll be stuck with this ringing in my head for the rest of my life.

Is there any real hope of taming this beast? Any input will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Tinnitus is not always permanent - If you don't go to loud things a lot then you have probably got a better chance of recovery than someone who has been to regular loud shows/concerts/clubs etc - Just stay away from anything really loud for the next few months to give the best hope of recovery.

So sorry to see you here.

You won't necessarily be stuck with tinnitus till the end. It's still very new for you and will probably go away or become only heard in silence but to be honest it may also stay at the same level.l but it's too soon to think about this possibility.
Protect from now on and hopefully it will go away soon.

See an ENT asap and ask about prednisone and NAC.

Good luck.

HI @DICK EDWARDS

The advice given by the two members above is good and I suggest you follow it. I would like to add that you don't use headphones to listen to any type of audio even at low volume. Please click on the links below and read my articles on tinnitus, that may be of some help to you. Try to avoid quiet rooms and surroundings especially at night, by using "sound enrichment. More about this is explained in my posts.

All the best
Michael

I was put on a high dose of prednisone for gout and then taken off it cold turkey by a quack rheumatologist which put me in afib a condition that I still have to take a beta blocker for. So I wont be taking any steroids unless it's a life and death situation. But I do thank you for your input.

Sorry to hear of your plight! Hopefully you will be lucky, and it will go with time or become much quieter and more bearable.

I know it doesn't help any, but I would love to have been 67 rather then 49 when I got tinnitus 4 months back. Whatever, it is a horrible things to have happen regardless of age.

Keep foam earplugs with you, and avoid any further concerts, which gave you an acoustic trauma. Avoid loud noises, including the lawn mower, vacuum, motorcycles, cinema, bars, clubs, busy restaurants and other loud everyday sounds.

There is a good chance that this tinnitus will get better but will take months.

I take daily omega-3, about 500 mg, and think this helps a lot, and plan to take it for life at this point. while available OTC, check with your doctor's before starting any supplements.

Not sure either age is better, as things heal slower as you get older in general.

Yeah I hear you DD. I meant more at least he's had another 18 years of silence than me. I know that sounds selfish of me, it isn't meant to. There are some on here who are only 13. Man, do I feel bad for them.

Everyone's is different. We know this without a doubt. And some goes away in 3-6 months, 7-8, 13, 18, 2 years 10 years etc etc. It does go away for many. We simply do not know.

That is a fact.

Sorry that this happened but you are not alone - there's 50 million people in the United States with tainnitus of various types and degrees. The advice you have been given here is excellent. There's not much else to say but hang in there and try not to worry about this, which is easy to say but the reality of the situation is, if your tinnitus does not go away, there is a very high probability that your brain will learn to ignore the sound - sort of like tuning it out, to the point of not even caring very much, when it's noticed. This is a natural process, but sometimes slow, so take care of your hearing.
