Tinnitus Since
As long as I can remember.
Cause of Tinnitus
Years of drumming.
I've just recently developed tinnitus and haven't sleep more than a few miserable hours a night since. Looking for some tips. Here's what i've got going on.

- I'm a side sleeper, so the second I put either ear to the pillow, tinnitus is all I hear.

- My tinnitus is fairly high pitched (at least 7900hz and I suspect some higher 'harmonics') so many sounds don't have enough HF to mask it.

- I'm talking St. Johns wort, so many sleep meds are contraindicated (although at this point I'd trade SJW for some sleep.

- I'm married, and although my wife is supportive, I understand that she will only tolerate so much noise.

I've looked into sleep headphones, which look like an ok option. Certain sounds (especially the MyNoise Neural Symphony) do seem to mask the tinnitus even at low levels. I am still reluctant to sleep with earbuds in. A noise maker on my night stand really only helps the ear closest to it.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!!!

Hi @RPM

Please click on the links below and read my posts which you might find helpful. They cover tinnitus coping methods for sleep and how to deal with the condition on the early stages. It usually improves with time. I suggest that you don't listen to music through headphones even at low volume. It can be helpful using "sound enrichment" at night using a sound machine. More is explained in the posts below.

Hope you start to feel better soon.

@RPM,
Pillow speakers can help and also lavender on your pillow to use the sense of smell as a distraction and relaxing.
Melatonin can help sleep and stronger meds off your doctor.

Lavender is a great idea. Regarding the pillow speakers I always assumed they've sound muffled, and not mask my high pitched T, but I will certainly look into it! Thanks!
