Tinnitus Since
02/15
Hi my name is Ashliegh,

I got t two months ago but feels like 2 years. I've never reached out to strangers for help like this before. But I'm at my wits end.

In January 2015 I had a straight forward upper wisdom tooth removed. However 2 weeks later I was was left with a condition called, burning mouth syndrome. Stress caused by that lead me to my GP who prescribed garbpentin. I only took 800 mg before stopping. But two days in I noticed a ringing in my ear.

I've been to see an ENT who confirmed it was t and to me it could go away. And stress was making it worse. Yeah well that's a no brainier. But I didn't need to go to med school to figure that one out.

I've since been to see a hearing therapist who can only be discribed as the nurse ratchet of the hearing world. She was negative from get go. I left with a noise box which is on constantly when I'm home.
Also had an MRI scan get the results on Tuesday.

But my main reason for reaching out today, is for hope. Like I guess everyone here all I wish for is peace and help. I cry most days and take Valium at night to help me sleep. I do try to keep as busy as I can and only read positive things on the internet about t. Don't think I can take anymore negative.
Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Welcome...almost everyone here has been in your shoes. Best advice is to get good sleep. I know it's tough. I had a hard time at first. There are white noise apps or rainfall apps for smartphones that you can play to mask your T to fall asleep.

There a few remedies Ive been using to help with this. I recently started pulsatile tinnitus in my right ear, but have had an issue with my left ear for many years. I use Ocean nasal spray. Its simply sea water mist. I found when I was on my boat the air while on the ocean helped my ears. The Ocean nasal spray made the high pitches go away, never to hear them again. My left ear still feels clogged, but no sounds. I also recently have been taking Lioflavinoid vitamins. Dont know if they work yet, but worth a shot. At least I'm taking more vitamins. I also take xanax. The psychiatrist I recently saw says this medication is the only known that helps mask the sound by tricking your brain. If it doesnt go away in my right ear which is the worst Im going to try acupuncture, cognitive behavioral therapy and maybe hypnosis.

Thanks for replying, nice to hear from someone who knows how I feel. I'm digging hard but it wears you down. Tweeting birds app is helping at the minute as. well as crickets. My t doesn't seem to be masked by white noise. Glad to hear the tough days pass :)

Now I sleep with out any music.. but my has gone down in volume since first few months so that does help... but it still sucks having T.

Ashliegh,

Hello! I know that would sound better if we met at a party, but......

Do you have hearing loss? If so, have you been given a tapered course of Prednisone? It can be effective, within the first 2-4 weeks. Your ENT should give you this if warranted.

Invest in a nature sound masker
for sleeping purposes. "Hometics" make a good one. Try taking either Melatonin, 5HTP or L-Theanine for sleep. Try them one at a time and see what works for you.

Try B-complex supplements, Methyl B12, calcium, NAC, Fish oil and some zinc. Get magnesium oil and try using it at night. See if any work in lowering your T intensity.

Try cutting out sodium, caffeine, sugar and alcohol. (The latter is a last resort!) };-)

Test different foods and see if some spike your T or not?

Keep busy and have faith Luv! We are here for you!

God bless!

This right here.. T seems to have some sort of control over time o_O 1.5 years feels like a decade to me >_<
Yet another person from England not getting the sort of help they need, really is disappointing to say the least.

Anyway Good morning & welcome o/
There's plenty of info here for you to look into & I hope you find something that's right for you.
We're all here to help :)

Hi Sailboardman,

No I don't have hearing loss, apprently I have hearing of a cat according to my ENT specialist.

At the minute I'm using a sound box at night that at crickets. Which helps plus a Valium if needed.

I tend to drink decaf green tea, but alcohol is a tough one. Luckily I don't drink that much odd weekends.

Thank you for your message the informtion you have mentioned is a great help. Will definitely keep a note on foods I eat.

Many thanks

Ashliegh

Good morning

The UK seems to behind when it comes to most things. I love my country but come on stop giving the money to the fat cats executives and remember why the NHS was started.

Thanks for your message, everyone is having a positive effect. Felt very much alone but feeling more positive off hope.

I'm sorry this happened...Your GP should've mentioned the side-effects of any medication....

Its a very rare side effect 1 in 1000, I've just been very unlucky that its happened. She said the T should go once the meds were out of my system. But that was 2 months ago and I only took a small dose. The ent specialist thinks it may be linked to my burning mouth syndrome. Will find out tomorrow when I see the maxfax specialist.

Hi Ashliegh, I'm glad you found this board and decided to reach out to others for support! The T has a way of trying to rob us of peace. Like you mentioned try to stay as busy as you can. I hope and pray things will improve with the T you developed. There are days that I, and I'm sure many others in this forum feel they can't take anymore of it but continue to go forward. You're stronger than you know! Things will improve....... God Bless........ Rich

@Ashliegh i too suffer with same condition. I got a root canal and later on had to get the tooth pulled it left me with T and a very sore jaw which they said it was TMJ .....Last 4 mouths I started getting a burning sensation where the tooth was extracted Docs said it was BMS and also put me on Gabapentin.....all I can say is try to be strong and just live day to day and the more days you get behind you the less intrusive these conditions get .....I still struggle but I have to say that as time goes on our minds to adapt to how we're feeling and the suffering lets up more and more ....hang in there
God Bless
Carlos

Hi Richard, I'm feeling better for reaching out to people. The replies and kind words of support have been truely helpful. I'm trying to take each day as it comes. And I guess life it's self is a roller coaster that throws curve balls now and again. What doesn't break you make us stronger. Sending strength and blessings... Ashleigh

Hi Carlos, I thought I had it bad when I got my bms. Eating sugar free gum or sweets seems to be the only relief. But to get t as well was another kick in the teeth. I'm going to try Amitriptyline to see if that helps my bms. Or may just see if it goes on its own. Thanks for your support its humbled me the kindness of strangers from across the globe. Take care.

@Ashliegh

Hi from the UK :D

You are still very new to T even though it feels like a long time so I'm sure it will get better in time or even disappear completely. I know it can be so difficult not to stress as I have gone through some rough patches but it definitely got better. All you can do is give it time & T won't be so frightening eventually if it doesn't dissapear.

Take care :)

Hi
Thank you, i can't thank you enough for your support. It's hard to explain to someone not going through it how tough some days can be. My gym has a punch bag so I'm finding it helpful to kick the crap out of that on bad days. I'm hoping the brain is as good as adapting to things like the rest of your body.

Take care :thankyousign:

Hang in there kiddo. I still do. Its been four years this July when i suffered acoustic trauma from fireworks and was left with this terrible T. I still fight it everyday, but don't let that scare you. I continue to work on adapting to it and trying to ignore it. At times it works, at others im back at trying harder. Im hopeful for a cure....from alot of the talk on these boards it sounds like were almost there....wowl...that would be great. In the meantime.....we will perserviere..did i spell that right?..who cares....hang in there.

Just ignore it...and move on. I will continue to follow my own words....bye!

Hi Ashleigh, just hang in there and come and check this forum often. I don't always post, but I read different posts from other folks most of the time. There's lots of people here who can empathize with you and can give good advice. God Bless....... Rich

Thanks so much, having good and bad days but trying to think that eventually I'll come out the other side. I'm struggling some today but just trying to keep busy. And for once in England the sun is shining. Thanks for getting in touch.... Best wishes.... Ashliegh

Hi Ashleigh, you have received lots of good advice and encouragement already. These members are so kind. We all understand what you are going through, the suffering phase of tinnitus which is toughest at the beginning. I can only add what I understand as the mental process of dealing with tinnitus suffering.

Remember when T is new, it usually traumatizes its victims to the point that the normal parasympathetic nervous system is taken over by the limbic system which functions in 'fight or flight' mode, and things will appear a lot worse than they are. You will be easily scared and the brain will zoom in on any bad or threatening sensation and magnify its significance. You will be flooded with distorted thoughts at this stage, especially 'catastrophic thinking' about the future (like my future is doomed or there is no future), as well as 'all or nothing thinking' (like my life is not worth it with T ringing). Beware of these thoughts. They are called cognitive distortions, a term used in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and they can create havoc in people mental suffering if not challenged. Our reaction to T can determine the degree of suffering or its intrusiveness. So we need to understand where these thoughts come from, defuse and counter them as much as possible. By doing so, we gradually remove the fear or phobia of T and then meaningful habituation will begin to happen over time. You can read Dr. Nagler's writing 'Letter to A Tinnitus Sufferer' and hopefully you will learn to counter/challenge your distorted thought:

http://www.ata.org/nagler-letter-to-tinnitus-sufferer

What you need is time and some strategies. While you wait for time to help heal, you can also read up the many success stories on TT to learn some helpful strategies or approaches people use to get better. These stories also give you hope and you will hopefully be more relax about your situation. Also, if you are bored with listening to the white noise box, you can also try some other masking sounds. You can download a free sound generator 'aire freshener'. TT has some masking sounds also. It comes with some advice and tips for new sufferers.

https://www.tinnitustalk.com/panic/

I find that sometimes I can play aire freshener on one window page as well as TT's sounds on anther page, and the two sounds can merge in together for enhanced masking effect. Take care and God bless.

Hi Ashliegh, Give it another month or two and you should start to see that it does get a lot better.T is something you can live with and learn to manage. Most people habituate or it may go away. You have come to the right support group. Uncle Vikin.

Hi Ashliegh,i,m 6weeks in with this noise, and considered the final solution, but I,m glad it was only one option. Two weeks ago I was on three different drugs, but found amitriptyline which is an antidrepresion tablet taken at night helped, and it's not considered addictive, also that time I was on Zimovane which guarenteed 7hours sleep. We must all be a bit different with the intensity of our t.But most seem to crack up at the start.I also have a tin labeled panic pills(diazapams),but in the last few days it has remained closed.I have faith that my experience of this will get better with time, and I,m sure yours will, good luck on your journey,

Hi, I also have faith that it will get better, and that our brain will adjust over time. I think time is a great healer with everything. I'm expecting good and bad days. But that's life in general I guess. I've stopped looking for the cure, but will continue trying to get help coping with it. And hopefully one day habituate it. I was giving some diazepam by my GP. I take 1 or a half at night. Which I'm finding helpful for sleeping and relaxing. I know they can be addictive so monitoring my usage. Hope we both come out the other end happier. Take care.

Hi, thanks vikin I'm hoping for that! I'm glad I joined its helped me lots. Its amazing the amount of people I've spoken to outside of this forum who also has T. The pharmaceutical company that finds a cure will make mega bucks when they eventually find a cure. And help a lot of people find peace.

The cause is really not known. It may be different in every case, it is the leading cause of disability I believe for the soldiers coming back from the war . Just my belief but I think it has something to do with nerve damage. I don't believe it is due to hearing loss but rather hearing loss is a symptom of T. Not really sure and I don't really search for an answer anymore I'm about 8 months into my life with T. It does get better but it might be a-little rough to get through till it does not bother you anymore but it will get better .It just happens. Any changes in you right now will get back to normal in a few months .Yea I believe the cure will be more like researchers understanding the audio and somatic nervous system better . Hang in there Ashliegh I check this site about 1 time a week now .If you want any advice I will do my best to help you . Uncle Vikin
