Cause of Tinnitus
Acoustic Trauma
18 days since my T started. Went to a LOUD concert while I was under heavy cold symptoms. I stood in that bloody concert for just 5/10 minutes so don't know if the T came from that or from cold. Left the concert with no T. It appeared during night. Since last week it has been one day on, one day off. What the hell is this??!!

Hey Joe welcome to our forum just try to relax and not get freaked out about the T. The fact that its intermitant me is a good sign it will probably just fade away with a little time. What you can do is not feed into it relax if you can using some masking sounds when you do hear your T and of course protect your ears if you go to loud enviroments.

The only 2 things your are supposed to do are: Immediately take corticosteroids and do HBO therapy. These two things are supposed to help if done as soon as the problem begins. Actually corticosteroids are supposed to help if taken at the first 48 hours, so now it is perhaps a bit late. After more passage of time, you start search this forum and if you find something useful tell us...
I repeat: these things allegedly help. There is no proof of that. They may not help at all, even if taken in early stages of T development. But they are the only possible treatments doctors may officially prescribe for T and hearing loss. Especially corticosteroids. Time is of essence! Although 3 weeks is perhaps too late for corticosteroids at least.

Lots of people say this, but I have yet to see any convincing, blinded, peer-reviewed studies which come to the same conclusion.

Oral steroids have some demonstrated efficiency in true cases of SSHL, but I'm not aware of anything conclusive for other kinds of tinnitus.

There is some evidence indicating that intratympanic injections of steroids might be helpful in sudden onset tinnitus -- but this is an invasive and potentially dangerous procedure.

No argue there. But there is nothing else to be done since no T drugs exist, and if there is any possibilit it may help, it should be done immediately. This is the general idea, I do not beleive in this either since I have tried both but corticosteroids I took 6 days after possible acoustic trauma and HBO I did in 2 months after. And they did nothing.

I took corticoids 30mgms each 12 hours during five days when this T was here for 10 days. I have experienced the ON/OFF thing since the first day but the pattern had never been one day ON - one day OFF as it is now. Three days after having it, it just faded completely. Next day was there, then two days ON, one day OFF, etc... Irregular and never repeating the same pitch or sound. Tea pot ebullition, crickets, insanely high pitched fluted tone, hiss, electrical activity... quieter, louder, left ear, right ear, both ears, no ear... What's next? Bill Cosby's voice singing yodel? I am becoming really crazy about this and in the top of this last week one day ON-one day OFF seeming being triggered by sleep. Oh, no! In the top of this I am a musician and can't play because I am scared! Does it seems to be recovering??

I suggest you wear musicians earplugs when you play, otherwise your music career might be over.

But, for what I am experiencing, do you think it is fading 100%? Today is ON, following the day ON/day OFF pattern, but every day it comes back it does it in a more soft way.
