On My Way to Recovery from Tinnitus and Hyperacusis

Hello, @Freerunner! Thank you for kind words.

My tones were very loud (11 out of 10). First small improvement was after 10 months. My tinnitus was reactive to every noise possible.

To be honest, I can't even describe how bad my condition was 2 years and 2 months ago. It was a very tough time. I had more than 10 different tones, loudness hyperacusis, pain hyperacusis, vertigo, crazy visual snow and lots of other symptoms. Now my left ear quietly hisses and my right ear quietly rings. I hear my tinnitus only in a quiet room. I still hear it outside sometimes but mostly don't. Setbacks still occur till this day. It's part of the game because healing is not a linear process.

Be patient and try to control your stress levels. Take supplements, eat healthy, exercise, try to stay positive and give it time.

In the beginning I also experienced only worsening. Hold on. Things will get better. :puppykisses:

And most important: give your ears rest but do not overprotect.
Glad you are doing good. Amazing sport you have been so far!

Я благодарю Господа за все мои скорби и за все мои радости. Душе нужно и то и другое, чтобы возрастать. / I thank the Lord for all my sorrows and for all my joys. The soul needs both in order to grow.

Господи Иисусе Христе, Сыне Божий, помилуй мя грешнаго и суди мя не по справедливости, а по милости Твоей. / Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner, and judge me not according to justice, but according to Your mercy.

Hi @Vassili, how are you doing now? I've read your progress and it gave me some kind of hope.
Hi, @Dann_sheep!

I am glad that my story gave you hope. After 2 years and 3 months I am doing much better. My tinnitus is quiet and hyperacusis is almost gone. My trauma was VERY severe but I still hope that I will heal completely. When? Nobody knows. Time will tell.

Что невозможно человеку, возможно Богу. / What is impossible for man is possible for God.

Take care.

Do you have pain from noise like noxacusis or just loudness hyperacusis?

Hey @Vassili, thank you so much for posting your story. It's encouraging and I'm pleased it's improved so much.

I had a setback with noise again on Sunday after my first noise trauma.

Hearing tests in normal range, all OK.

For about a week and a half or two I've been experiencing some dizziness and constant feeling like I'm swaying.

I read about you having similar and dizziness. Did this gradually start to heal?

I'm gonna try and get a CT scan for that to rule things out but it's the thing that concerns me the most right now along with a slightly blurry vision.

Sometimes the other symptoms settle but this one is really getting me down. I've already conditioned my mind and convinced myself I've got permanent damage and vestibular issues etc.

Hoping to get through this and once again thank you so much for sharing your journey with us all.

Hi, @AnonymousPie!

I had dizziness and constant feeling like I'm swaying for about 1.5 years. First year was very tough. Now after 2 years and 3 months I have no dizziness and no swaying. All these symptoms gradually started to heal and went away by its own.

I did an MRI when I was 4 months in. Everything was fine. As for the blurry vision (or visual snow), it also gradually improved. During first year I had it really bad, now it's almost gone. Sometimes it comes back but it does not bother me.

I would say give yourself at least 2 years time. Go to the doctor, do all needed scans to rule out dangerous conditions and try to stay calm. It can be a very long ride. I am not out of the woods completely but after 2 years and 3 months my condition became very livable.

I still hope for a full recovery. Maybe after 4 years. Time will tell.

I wish you all the best and lots of patience. Take it day by day and have faith in better days. Fight for your positive mindset, it's very important. Let's hope that things will gradually improve for you. Keep in mind that for most people they do improve.

Take care!

I love your attitude! Wish I had it as well.

Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful response with me.

Did you also struggle with your vision, like blurry vision aside from floaters? I'm so frightened because my vision has been impacted since the onset of my ear issues. I had my eyes tested today, no abnormalities found, but recommended glasses if I want to make them clearer. I bought some but I'm scared this is going to get worse and I didn't need glasses before.

I am so pleased for your healing! It is a slow process. Thank you. I'm going to try get a CT scan. I've heard people have all the tests and all comes back normal and still continue to have the symptoms. I feel like my brain is damaged. How to pull myself out of this and try to have faith that my eyes and ears will get better? Having a fragile day.

Thanks so much for your caring words and experiences ❤️

Yes, I had both. These symptoms are still with me till this day but they are something like 80%-90% reduced so it's not a problem for me anymore. To be honest, even in the beginning of my healing I haven't payed much attention to problems with my vision because I had a very severe nerve pain allover my body, plus dizziness, plus tinnitus on suicidal level, so my vision was the least of my concerns. I felt that I don't need new glasses so I decided to just wait things out.

Unfortunately, there is no magical pill at the moment. You have to take all your will in your fist and just move on with your life without overthinking, without blaming yourself or others, without panicking. You will find lots of information on this forum that will help you cope.

Thank you for your kind words. :cat:

Thank you. I so appreciate it :) How did you find the MRI? I do want to get one done I just don't want to trigger the tinnitus and hyperacusis and I've read many things about that on here.

And yes that song explains how I feel right now haha xD

Thanks again :)

How did you find the MRI?
Hey,

My ENT sent me to do it. Also, medical worker gives you ear protection before the procedure. I had my own earplugs with me but I did not used them. The procedure was unpleasant because at that time I was 4 months in but everything went well and I didn't experienced any worsening in my condition.

Hello @AnonymousPie, please don't worry. I've had tinnitus for years and I had two MRI scans which both were absolutely fine. I wore ear protection.

I also had CT scans, all of these scans were before my surgery in April and I am so glad that I received all this treatment.

Please don't worry.

Hey @Eleanor89. I really want to get an MRI. Just so scared since it seems to have upset people like me and I'm scared of the risks.

I got my eyes tested, all look OK but I was prescribed glasses. My vision before this felt fine. Now blurry. Some moments in the day better than others. I feel my young life is ruined. I had so so many plans to look forward to. Now with my blurred vision and balance issues and weak heavy feelings I feel I've got vestibular nerve damage from my noise traumas and won't heal. I've diagnosed myself.

I pray time heals me. I just can't see the light much these days. I so badly want to live and enjoy my life. :( ❤️

Thanks @Vassili. Wish I could get a consensus on who has centralized tinnitus across Tinnitus Talk but from what I've read I've heard it's harder to treat. Not sure about that though or the data on it.
For noise-induced tinnitus (my case) there's no treatment at all. Only time. If you get lucky. If your condition is connected with blood flow issues, I assume, there's a chance to treat it.

Have a nice day.
