My baseline tinnitus, normally very stable, has been acting up since a few days. It became noticeably louder and somehow sharper/shriller.

No noise trauma, no illness, no new medications, nothing.

I've been working a lot in the past weeks. Except for the 3 days of Christmas, I've spent every waking moment either working out or working. It is enjoyable work but it requires constant concentration and thinking.

Do you think this can lead to such an unexplained spike?

Of course it can. Lots of work = lots of stress. Lots of stress = possibly spike

Keeping stress and anxiety low is a must, when it comes to tinnitus....

Hey @hans799, I know this is an old thread but did you experience this again and did it resolve? The same thing happened to me, I got a new leading position at work that came together with a massive workload and the whole package from sleep problems to headaches in the evening. This resulted together with my normal noise exposure in the office in a spike that is pretty annoying...

Hey.

The high-pitched shrill caused by overwork went away once the crunch period ended and I could rest. Later it came back during another tough period, then again went away with rest like clockwork. It seems to be a direct sign of brain exhaustion and is just temporary.

So no worries, I'm sure yours will go away once you get a few days off.

Congrats on the promotion but take care, man. Especially the sleep issues are a sure sign that you're overdoing it, I speak from experience. :)

Thanks man, appreciate the advice:). Luckily I got no new tone just louder and more annoying. I'll try to take it a bit easy, I notice a huge difference in my sleep pattern, from sleeping pretty much through the night to waking up four times and the first thing on my mind is already work. So will try to improve that:) Thanks for the support.

My personal view is you are being punished by the God of Hedonism who believes those that work like you are foolish.

Or....that spike you feel isn't tinnitus but rather your boss is inserting something into your backside because he wants you work even harder.

Many possibilities.

Sounds like just stress..
