Phenergan (Promethazine) for Sleep?

Doctor has written me up for some benzos, and I have the bottle sitting there but I don't want to take them. I know that 10mg of Phenergan will give me a few decent hours of sleep.

Is there any risk to ears I am not aware of?

It may have been on the ATA List of Ototoxic Drugs. I remember it rang a bell (no pun intended) with me because I used to take it when I was sick.

Thank you. I have some benzos which I don't want to touch, or Phenergan.

What do others take? I can no longer sleep without a sedative.
