Pimozide for COVID-19 Induced Tinnitus — Jupiter Wellness

I've never come across Jupiter Wellness before, nor have I seen anything discussed about it on Tinnitus Talk. According to the article, they discuss potentially treating COVID-19 induced tinnitus, but also subjective tinnitus, with dopamine receptor modulation.

"During the COVID-19 pandemic, Jupiter Wellness scientists discovered a novel pathway for the treatment of COVID-19 induced tinnitus and possibly subjective tinnitus. The discovery led to a patent recently filed by Jupiter Wellness for the use of dopamine receptor modulation for the treatment of tinnitus.

The Company has just launched a study to investigate if dopamine receptor modulation can be used effectively to treat COVID-19 induced tinnitus."

Jupiter Wellness Initiates Clinical Trial for Potential New Treatment for Tinnitus

Am I not good enough for you @Damocles? Nobody's good enough, are they? Except Jupiterman...
Ah man, it's nothing personal. Just, this is Jupiter Wellness we're talking about here, and you're not a Jupiter man.

Heck, you're not even a Planet man, let's face it.

Trust, if there are ever any rumours about a Tinnitus treatment over at Pug Wellness, it's you I'm going to want to hear from, baby.

Just looking at this again.

Pimozide is a medication that's available and on the market, so why have they filled a patent?

Also, I'm guessing if this is successful, it could be approved as it's already on the market.

Leads me to wonder why anyone really struggling hasn't given it a try, IF they can get it prescribed.

Yea, I might try Pimozide.

It's worth a go for a couple of weeks. We won't know unless we try. Aside from dopamine, I noticed it's an extremely potent 5-HT7 antagonist (which lie in the DCN) and read it is also an H4 antagonist, which recently is implicated in tinnitus.

The problem will be getting it prescribed.

Pimozide is not on the market here in Sweden. The last form of it (Orap 2 mg) was taken off the market in 2001. I can't find any information on why it was taken from the Swedish market though.

In the US pretty much any medication can be prescribed off-label, so no issue in that particular country.

Wikipedia says Pimozide was approved in 1985 in the US. That's a long time ago. I wonder if any anecdotes exist of it lowering the volume of tinnitus.

Does anyone know how to check in which countries Pimozide is available?
@Mentos, no. But I did spend 5 minutes looking at this for you. On Wikipedia it says it's available in the USA and Australia (unless you can import it with a valid prescription). Are you thinking of subbing out the Flupentixol for a few weeks and replacing with Pimozide?

There is an easy way to import this drug to Poland via our Ministry of Health. I think they import it from Belgium.

I exchanged a short message with my shrink who sees no counter indication to try Pimozide and is willing to help with a procedure to import it. I will still need to discuss with him the details whether to suspend Flupentixol or Doxepin while on Pimozide or to take it on top. Obviously I don't want to lose from what I achieved so far (reduction of my tinnitus to level 1-4 depending on a day) which is absolutely livable. Still, since I noticed playing with my brain chemistry and bioelectrical activity via drugs, tDCS and Will Sedley sound therapy bear fruit, I keep exploring further.

@Mentos, I agree fully. It seems it's the combination that is effective rather than the individual parts. Once I stopped looking at does this work, does that work, and realised it's the sum of all parts, it opened up new avenues.

I don't think the Pimozide will affect Doxepin but may overload the dopamine receptors with Flupentixol added.

We need a thread that says 'cocktails'.

Besides they are usually nicer by the pool in the summer than a beer :)

Sure, but what about methodology? How does one interpret the observations? There should be from the onset a stress on a top-down approach: from the rule to the exception; from what is known (about the interaction of these drugs) to what is unknown.

That's a good question. I looked at the costs for filing a patent application and they're considerable. It appears to be $6000+ because you really need a patent attorney to make sure it will stand up. But patent attorneys also say there is a low cost way to this by filing something called a Provisional Patent. At some point that would need to be upgraded to a regular patent application, but this gets your idea in the front door and only costs $150 to $300. The Provisional Patent lasts one year.

I might put my hands on Pimozide since it is commercialized here in Spain and I have a contact who can prescribe it to me. I'm in that point in which I'm willing to try anything.
If it helps, the clinical trial is using 1 mg a day. Let us know.

Hi @Mentos, did you ever start to trial Pimozide? I think the trial concludes in 6 weeks. A solid enough study (triple blinded, moderate size group and placebo controlled) so if results show a big difference over placebo, it's worth looking at. I noticed the stock has increased almost 50% in the last month, though I'm not an investor.

So far, I've only increased my Flupentixol dosage to 2 mg and have had 8 Cerebrolysin injections. The latter seems to be yielding good results, as my tinnitus has been at a 1-2/10 level over the past week.

Wow, that's interesting. Thanks for sharing with the community.

That's a big jump from 0.5 mg to 2 mg. Do you get any side effects? It worried me how Dr. De Ridder said I must take Clonazepam with just one Deanxit to prevent tardive dyskinesia.

i am glad that you have had improvement. How would you rate your tinnitus before this treatment? Do you have hyperacusis?

No hyperacusis for me. My tinnitus was 2-4 before the treatment, for the last 2 weeks it is a consistent 2, at times even a 1.
You said you had had 8 injections, do you get a number of them per week? Where specifically are the injections done on the body and are they done by a neurologist?

The package I paid is 10 injections, these were forearm intravenous injections. Prescribed by neurologist but conducted by nurse. It took me 2 weeks to finish all 10.

I expect Jupiter Wellness have many other things in the pipeline, however their tinnitus trial wrapped up in June. Their stock has gone through the roof!
