I've been more aware of tinnitus daily, simply due to the balance issue, draws me straight to it,if that was put to rest my days would be so much better 100%,while this is ongoing can't see room for improvement?boy have I looked to its remedy?Think this is a good thread the above,as most find different things we do daily, increases our awareness to it.Thanks Ozzy.

Everywhere, also in the shower

I don't hear it in the shower because my T is like a hissing sound and these two sounds mix together. But elsewhere I generally hear it like you..

What is your T sounds like? Like a single tone?

And another question for you. Where you DON'T hear your T?
I mean is there a special place, where you do not hear it?

The shower is the best potential masker for me too, I can still hear it however.
The other day I tried counting and I couldn't keep track -.-
Nope, nowhere :)

Shower is best, I agree. Maybe we can work near seaside and listen the sound of waves, or just next to a splashing fountain :))

I usualy listen music via earpods during working.. What do you do at work? (or while studying if you are a student?)

that would be pretty neat! Remember to buy some quality ones, my ipod earbuds was the last thing i listened to before t started doh! Get some quality ones :) Well, I had to quit school when I got t, and I djed for a living :p so it's a pretty bad situation

Well I can imagine your situation..

I wish the best you Tenna. Please remember..One day this will pass.
The cure is on the way.. Its just a matter of time...
I hope your T will diminish soon....

Its hard to hear mine without pluggin my ears most* of the time, but for instance i drank lastnight alot at a party and my ears are hissin today which id rather have the hissin then the metalic bells noise but both are low so i can really only hear it fully like in a bathroom with no sound but might be too graphic but when i pee i cant hear it lol so it fluctuates and changes sounds but the volume is always the same for the most part.

Everywhere but in the shower.
But I guess like most of us, we could even hear in the shower if we try.
But the shower is loud enough to let us concentrate on the water and not on T.
At least this is my impression.
How to habituate to this? :(

Walking in the street at night (12-2am), in bed.

To be honest, in other situations such as in a shopping mall or an elevator or anywhere other than in quiet rooms, I only hear it when I listen for it. Learning to not listen for it is what I've been trying to do as of late, and to be honest, it's really helping.

Seems incredible, but some people really don't mind the tinnitus...
I don't know how can they do that.

For example I know a person my office. He has a tinnitus, too.
We made some tests at some crowded environenments. Apparaenty, his tinnitus is higher than me.
But somehow, he seemed to be less affected ! He told me that he mentioned his tinnitus to his wife, few weeks later than he had developed tinnitus.!

I asked him what is the secret:

He told me this: "I don't listen it. And I don't care"

I hope we can achieve that mental level too :)

The topic of tinnitus and loudness has been discussed a good number of times on this forum.

There are at least two dimensions to tinnitus: loudness and frequency/masking-level. Just because a person can hear their tinnitus "all the time" does not necessarily mean it is loud. I could hear my "old tinnitus" even when driving down the highway at well beyond 200 km/h. But in a quiet room, my "new tinnitus" would be louder and steal the picture completely. Yet - anytime driving - I would certainly not be able to hear my "new tinnitus"; a simple computer fan could mask it.

Despite the above, I find the tinnitus that I can hear only in a quiet room to be more intrusive.

A high frequency sound will cut through anything. Loud or not.

I can only hear my Tinnitus when it's very quiet like when I'm trying to fall asleep or when the volume on the TV is very very low. It's still enough to really annoy me and keep me awake at night. Hopefully it will go :(

Agreed. I don't know where my frequency is. Could be 8 kHz, 10 or maybe 15.
It is a single tone, but so high that nothing covers it. :arghh:

I'm in the "everywhere" camp...though not completely, as standing by a waterfall will drown it out, also a bath running, - but only if I'm "ignoring" my T. If I listen for it, I can still hear the bloody screeching there too.

I agree with ATEOS's summary of it's not just loudness but the combo with frequency. High pitched T may be harder to mask in some ways, but I figure fluctuating frequencies would be even harder! No way I would be on planet any more if mine wasn't a "constant" torture...Sic.

The only place I cant hear my T at times is in the shower but when i shower i have a morse code clicking that comes and goes. My T sounds like a 16khz frequency. I can hear it in cars with music loud restaurants filled with people and music, near my old loud AC unit. Thing is I honestly don't hear it most of the time. The only thing i have a hard time not hearing is the morse code which is on and off. I have a head noise which sounds like a voltage sound that goes high to low, i thought i would never habituate that sound but i have that as well. Hopefully this can give some people who are struggling some hope, but also i want to add we cant wait and hope habituation just happens some do, but others need to take action. GOOD luck all.

Yes Cullen. Those posts always help. Thank you.
Really wondering how you habituated in just 6 months to those sounds, in particular the high-pitched one at 16 kHz. And how can you not hear it? Are you sure it hasn't gone down in loudness? I could still freak out when I hear it 24/7.
Of course I need to control my reaction, which I do.

Hey martin I am happy to hear thAt. I won't get into to much detail but it has to do with past experiences. I went through tough times and can handle things better now. If you feel you're not making progress maybe it's time to find p someone to help you.

Hey Cullen.
I did TRT (or some kind of) in a tinnitus clinic here in Germany.
Also went through all the explanations, audio files etc. on the ATA sites.
But still difficult making T a neutral stimulus for me.
My head is buzzing and I still cannot accept living with that.
So still a distance for me to go.
