Tinnitus Since
2016-2019 (Mild, Cured) 8/2020 (Severe)
Cause of Tinnitus
Virus / Microsuction / Acoustic Trauma
I'm posting everything I currently take as people often ask brands, dosages, frequency, though I do not consider my experience authoritative or anything but my own experimentation. Likewise, I'd like to hear other people's stacks. Hopefully we can learn about new substances this way.

There are many things in my list which have no individual threads, and I'm sure that will be true for others as well, so I submit that this thread has a unique value for discovery of medicines/supplement otherwise unknown to users, that will not be known unless we all post our complete stack.

Basic Info About Me:

Duration of Tinnitus: 5 months
Cause: Noise-induced
Progress: Volume has decreased over time, EEEEE sound has resolved 95% of the time, while low wawawa tones and tss/tch atonal sounds are present. On my best days I can mask with music or ambient noise, and on my worst days unmaskable, debilitating sounds/textures, and trouble working/sleeping.
Trailing One Month Experience: Quieter tinnitus during the day, usually very loud at night. Bad days still interspersed throughout with no clear catalyst. Reactivity is still high e.g. driving cars is a no go.

Medications:

Keppra 500mg 2x per day - Helps with hyperacusis reactivity

Can you please tell me from where did you order the supplements?
Thank you!

While I agree we should share, aren't you worried big brother will go after you and your doctors? You have many controlled substances in your list.

I'm confused by what you mean - all of my meds are prescribed under the supervision of my psychiatrist and neurologist. No reason to be concerned.

@GBB this would be better if there was no comments, only stacks posted like in your template.

@GBB

Did Melatonin make your tinnitus worse or did it just have no effect?
I'm thinking of trying it as a sleep aid, but I don't want to make my tinnitus worse.

@GBB

I used to take loads of supplements, however now I don't take any, apart from the odd magnesium supplement - but that's only to use them up.

I found none actually had any real impact, and they were very expensive to pay for each month.

Steph :)

It made my sleep worse, no effect on tinnitus.

"Naked" is always an option too. For me the meds have definitely helped so I do think there is value there - supplements I can't tell.

  • 3 times per day 120 mg Magnesium Aspartate
  • 3 times per day 780 mg Potassium Citrate
  • 100 mg per day Vitamin B5
And I am thinking about replacing the B5 with some Vitamin B Complex.

I take Melatonin at night. I find it helps me get to sleep. No other supplements or medications.
I just tried it last night for the first time.
It certainly helped me get to sleep, but then my roaring tinnitus woke me up 2 hours later.
I'm going to try again tonight.

@Poseidon65
How many mg do you take?
I started with 3 mg.

Hey, I'm a long time Melatonin user here. Allow me to drop some anecdotes if I may.

Melatonin is not the best for ensuring you remain asleep throughout the night. It is primarily useful in calming you down and getting you to sleep. You should also take it about an hour before you go to bed, though anywhere between 30 minutes and 90 minutes is probably okay.
I started with 3 mg.
I take 3mg on milder days, 4.5mg on bad days.
3 mg should be the upper limit of what you take. The ideal dosage is actually around the 1 mg range. You don't really get much benefit from taking higher doses, rather the side effects are worse (sluggishness the next day).

I would suggest keeping at a lower dose and just keeping consistent with your sleep timing. Remember, it's a sleep aid, not a sedative or hypnotic. It won't be a magic pill if you have too much else going on that's messing with your ability to sleep.

You could consider something like prolonged release, which is claimed by some to help them sleep longer. I have tried it as well as normal Melatonin and can't tell much of a difference, but that's just me. There's also some super supplements with other additives in which Melatonin is a cofactor. I specifically used this sleep aid by Physician's Choice for a while but stopped after I had a few side effects (and learned of 5 mg being way too much). Right now I'm using a simple 1 mg tablet from Nature's Bounty as it seemed to be well received.

Apologies to the OP for co-opting the thread momentarily.

Wow, I thought I was being conservative by using the 3 mg since I saw 5 mg and 10 mg on sale.

Thanks, I guess I can cut them in half.

Although I wasn't sluggish at all this morning even though the tinnitus kept me up most of the night. :(

How long after your tinnitus onset did you start taking the supplements? And after starting to take the supplements, how long did it take before you saw improvement?

Thank you!

People mentioning here that Melatonin only helps you fall asleep and not keep you asleep: my pharmacist told me there are two types of Melatonin: the regular one and timed release.

Regular should be taken right before bed and will help you fall asleep, timed release helps you maintain sleep.

I'm not taking any Melatonin but I have it (the regular version as for the timed release version you need a doctor prescription here) at hand just in case.

It was gradual but approx 1 week :)
According to your bio, you have had tinnitus since 2008, so am I right in assuming that after a very long time with tinnitus you started this regimen and after a week you went from 8 to 3?

That is so incredible that you are almost doing science (and for all of us in the process) a disservice by not figuring out what the winning ingredient (or combo) is in your stack by simple elimination :D

I understand you don't want to start meddling with your stack now that you've found something that works.

Any guesses to which are the most probable to have contributed most? For example: I'm automatically ruling out Multivitamin and Omega3 as the real groundbreakers.

I like Nootropics Depot - I just bought all the stuff that was non-overlap between our two stacks. Worth a shot. Thanks.

I know their Mexican branch also sells BPC-157 and it has the same high lab testing standards - I'm planning to order some more from them in the future.

Yes bro, Nootropics Depot is the best nootropic site in the world, lab testing, 100% purity and 100% nice effects!

Yes let us know how good their BPC-157 is :)

BTW, I can't wait to try their new 7,8-DHF with higher bioavailability.

The magnolia bark extract is GABA-ergic like a benzo - it could be that alone working for you, although in that case coming off may be rough.

Clonazepam 2mg QD

Gabapentin 300mg TID

THC/CBD oil (vaporized or decarboxylated and consumed orally) - PRN, estimate daily intake to average 1-300mg THC, 0-100mg CBD.

For "breakthrough anxiety" I lean on Valerian, since I'm already on a med stack of downers that would make your average death metal guitarist drowsy, and I don't want to get into the "klonopin plus xanax" game, or whatever. I've seen a lot of people on polybenzo cocktails and my perception is it tends to end even more catastrophically badly than daily use of a single benzo. I've taken Valerian like twice in the last six months.

I have a closet full of supplements because I tried every supplement, vitamin, weird russian medication, etc, that I could find any attestation to, before resorting to benzos. I think that maybe valerian + passionflower + Kava was very slightly effective, but it's such a tiny effect compared to actual benzos that the effect has more or less disappeared for me, if it was ever there.

Also, I spent ten years and ~$30,000 trying other alternatives before resorting to a pretty obnoxiously over-the-top med stack. I would definitely not encourage anyone else to do what I am doing.

Nope, I take it before bed and I have not had the sensation that it shuts down my tinnitus. I already used good Kava from Kalm with Kava and it made my tinnitus more intense.

I really suspect 7,8-DHF (Trk) + Asthanxanthin (NT3) + NMN (Antiox) + Q10 (Antiox) + NAC (Glutamate regulator) do the main part of the effects.

Huh cool - I'm waiting for mine to arrive. Hope to get similar results, but if not, appreciate the recommendations regardless!

7,8-DHF looks interesting to me, especially because it reportedly helps the effects of Glutamate neurotoxicity (as one of the effects among other promising effects). Maybe there should be a thread devoted to that one alone...

Astaxanthin helped me a bit too btw.
