"If a film is not worth watching twice, then it is not worth watching once."
Robert Altman

"There is more evidence for the existence of UFOs than there is for the existence of God."
George Carlin

"Face it, you're on Earth - there's no cure for that."
Samuel Beckett

he can anger you only when you permit yourself to be disturbed by him."

To fight aloud, is very brave -
But gallanter, I know
Who charge within the bosom
The Calvalry of Wo -

~Emily Dickinson
This is my favourite Emily Dickinson poem:

Tell all the Truth but tell it slant –
Success in Circuit lies
Too bright for our infirm Delight
The Truth's superb surprise

As Lightning to the Children eased
With explanation kind
The Truth must dazzle gradually
Or every man be blind –

Epictetus

Now is the time to get serious about living your ideals. How long can you afford to put off who you really want to be? Your nobler self cannot wait any longer. Put your principles into practice – now. Stop the excuses and the procrastination. This is your life! You aren't a child anymore. The sooner you set yourself to your spiritual program, the happier you will be. The longer you wait, the more you'll be vulnerable to mediocrity and feel filled with shame and regret, because you know you are capable of better. From this instant on, vow to stop disappointing yourself. Separate yourself from the mob. Decide to be extraordinary and do what you need to do – now.

"The Stockdale Paradox": you must maintain unwavering faith that you can and will prevail in the end, regardless of the difficulties, and at the same time, have the discipline to confront the most brutal facts of your current reality, whatever they might be.

"Holding on to anger is like grasping a hot coal with the intent of throwing it at someone else; you are the one who gets hurt."

Buddha.

I seem to remember it was this guy's post: I Love Noise — Tinnitus from Shooting Guns without Hearing Protection | Tinnitus Talk Support Forum that elicited that response from me.

He didn't seem to know what point he was trying to make, and to be fair, I didn't either.

But it was something to the effect of:

I like noise, but noise caused my tinnitus, however I still like making lots of noise.

I don't like to wear earplugs, because they get rid of noise, which I like, but please wear earplugs and stay in school, everyone.

"Man would fain be great and see that he is little;
would fain be happy and see that he is miserable;
would fain be perfect and see that he is full of
imperfections; would fain be the object of the love
and esteem of men, and sees that his faults merit only
their aversion and contempt. The embarrassment wherein
he finds himself produces in him the most unjust and
criminal passions imaginable, for he conceives a mortal
hatred against that truth which blames him and convinces
him of his faults."

Pascal, "Pensees"

"And slime they had for mortar."

Genesis II

Both quotes from the Intro Page in Eric Hoffer's "The True Believer",
regarding the rise of Fascism.

Don't be ruled by your past. Don't be crippled by the past. Let the past be the past and focus on what is ahead. Remember however that if you neglect the most essential lessons of the past, you shall walk into the future with one leg.

Ernest Agyemang Yeboah

"However, the past holds the secrets to our hang ups. If we were neglected and/or abused, we will still feel 'no good' and unworthy of the enjoyment of love and happiness.

Before we can move on we must reappraise our own self worth.
Do not accept that your treatment was appropriate. You are probably worth more than that."

"He gained strength through familiarity with the thought that the emergency exit stood always open and became curious, too, to taste his suffering to the dregs. If it went too badly with him he could feel sometimes with a grim malicious pleasure: "I am curious to see all the same just how much man can endure. If the limit of what is bearable is reached, I have only to open the door to escape."

Herman Hesse, Steppenwolf

"After I die, I shall be reborn again as a baby, but I shall forget my former life. Statement two: After I die, a baby will be born. Now, I believe that those two statements are saying exactly the same thing, and we know the second one is true. Babies are always being born."

Alan Watts
