"We haven't stopped winning, and he hasn't stopped losing. The truth is, this guy can't get tired of losing."

"Maybe Donald Trump sees a dark and divisive future, but I don't."

— Dark Brandon, at an event in Chicago, 11/10/2023.

First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist. Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a trade unionist. Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew. Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

— Martin Niemoller, 1946

There's an old saying in Tennessee — I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee — that says, fool me once, shame on — shame on you. Fool me — you can't get fooled again.

"Power concedes nothing without a demand. It never did and it never will. Find out just what any people will quietly submit to and you have found out the exact measure of injustice and wrong which will be imposed upon them, and these will continue till they are resisted with either words or blows, or with both. The limits of tyrants are prescribed by the endurance of those whom they oppress."

— Frederick Douglass

"Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups."

— George Carlin
Some more from Carlin:

"Never argue with an idiot. They will only bring you down to their level and beat you with experience."

This goes along well with the quote below:

"When people show you who they are, believe them the first time."

— Maya Angelou, January 26, 2022
Which goes along with this:

The more people I meet
The more I like my cat.

The wife has many times asked what is it that makes you not want to associate with some people? Well, when I was a youngster, my uncle Ernie explained a major difference between, "Do you see or do you look?"

That's a Mark Twain quote, way before Carlin.
Whoops. Copy and pasted the wrong quote by mistake. I meant to quote this:

"Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that".

Context: This line was directed towards Americans. It still holds up.

Anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.'

— Isaac Asimov

"The disorders and miseries that result gradually incline the minds of men to seek security and repose in the absolute power of an individual; and sooner or later the chief of some prevailing faction, more able or more fortunate than his competitors, turns this disposition to the purposes of his own elevation on the ruins of public liberty."

— George Washington, September 17, 1796 Farewell Address
