What are we eating today?
Abraham Lincoln

Forgive me for deviating from the thread here but I have to say this "quote" from Abraham Lincoln <chuckling here> ((good going @Julien87 )) brought on a smile. We all need more humor in our lives no matter how bleak they may seem at a given time. I came to realize the powerful and positive impact humor had upon me emotionally when I was diagnosed with cancer back in 2006. Not yet knowing what stage it was (turned out to be stage 1 fortunately) I earnestly tried and succeeded in remaining positive by refusing to focus on the negative aspects, and looked for humor wherever I could find it; it helped immeasurably. Of course I realize (being a T sufferer myself) that it presents tremendous challenges for each person (the greater the intensity and type T, the greater the challenge) but some times ---- we need to throw off all our worries and cares and JUST laugh ! It can be very therapeutic.

"A person without a sense of humor is like a wagon without springs. It's jolted by every pebble on the road."
~~ Henry Ward Beecher ~~

@Bobbie7 Absolutely, I can't agree with you more. I think we need a jokes thread!

"Sometimes you can't have what you want...That's how life is."

I heard this a thousand times but it didn't mean anything to me till my mom said it when i asked her how she was being so strong when she knew she was dying long before she was ready. What courage. She was 72.

When I was growing up I was a real worrywart... worried excessively about everything! My mother would remind me often of her philosophy although at the time I discounted it and continued on my path of constant worry bout this 'n that. Now, although she has been gone for 17 years.. I earnestly try to follow her wise advice:

"Don't worry about something until there is something to worry about!" ~~ and it works too !!

I'm digging deep for my quote - "Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what... you are going to get"

Good ole Forrest Gump said that.... and how can Tom Hanks ever be wrong! :woot:

Though earth and moon were gone
And suns and universes ceased to be
And Thou wert left alone
Every Existence would exist in thee
- Emily Bronte

I've always figured out that there 24 hours a day. You sleep six hours and have 18 hours left. Now, I know there are some of you out there that say well, wait a minute, I sleep eight hours or nine hours.
Well, then, just sleep faster, I would recommend.

Arnold Schwarzenegger

"It pays to keep an open mind, but not so open your brains fall out."
- Carl Sagan

"Man is the only animal for whom his own existence is a problem which he has to solve."
- Erich Fromm

And a couple of Norwegian one's but a lot of the meaning gets lost in translation.

Could you please post them anyway, in Norwegian? I'd like to try to make sense of them :)

"Klag ikke under stjernene over mangel på lyspunkter i ditt liv."
- Henrik Wergeland
The translation would be something like "Do not complain under the stars about a lack of bright spots in your life".

"Du må ikke tåle så inderlig vel den urett som ikke rammer dig selv!"
- Arnulf Øverland
The rhyme gets lost in translation, it roughly means "You must not tolerate so well the wrongdoing that does not affect yourself".

They are translatable but sound less great in English.

It's such a nice language! Nice sayings too.
With my limited Swedish (sorry ) I can just make out what the individual words mean.

Tusen takk! :)

"While you're out there partying, horsing around, someone out there at the same time is working hard. Someone is getting smarter and someone is winning. Just remember that."

Just remember where he was born! The second-best country in the world ;)

It's all in the reflexes

Jack burton

I love Big Trouble in Little China (1986).
Kurt Russell and John Carpenter's finest hour along with The Thing (1982) and Escape from New York is not far behind, that one either. Great actor/director team, should have made more movies together during the 80s and 90s.

Speaking of quotes and Jack Burton, here are some other classics:

"I'm a reasonable guy. But, I've just experienced some very unreasonable things."

"Feel pretty good. I'm not, uh, I'm not scared at all. I just feel kind of... feel kind of invincible."

"Well, ya see, I'm not saying that I've been everywhere and I've done everything, but I do know it's a pretty amazing planet we live on here, and a man would have to be some kind of FOOL to think we're alone in THIS universe. "

"We made it. Holy shit, we made it!"

"Ol' Jack always says... what the hell?"

That movie might just be one of the most quotable and funniest films from the 80s, along with Commando (1985) where almost every line uttered becomes an instant classic.

~There is nothing beautiful about the wreckage of a human being. There is nothing pretty about damage, about pain, about heartache. What is beautiful is their strength, their resilience, their fortitude as they display an ocean of courage when they pick through the wreckage of their life to build something beautiful brand new, against every odd that is stacked against them.~

The one that comes to mind is actually from a video game (silly as that might sound), and doesn't really go with the kind of quotes I usually like. Anyhow, here it is;
"Take moments of happiness where you find them. The world will take the rest". - Dragon age, jaws of hakkon

Title says it all.

"Never love anyone that treats you like you're ordinary."

"Women are meant to be loved, not to be understood."

― Oscar Wilde

"The two most important days in your life are the day you are born, and the day you find out why."

― Mark Twain

~ Watch Carefully, the magic that occurs, when you give a person just enough comfort to be themselves

~ The doubters are just dreamers with broken hearts

~ Negative people need drama like oxygen. Stay positive, it'll take their breath away"

"Fear is wisdom in the face of danger, it's nothing to be ashamed of." - Sherlock Holmes
"We don't always know when we're in the face of danger." - Tinnitus Recipient
