In Northern Illinois, October often reveals the beginnings of Winter (such as the First Frost);
I am reminded of those great lines from T.S. Eliot:
"Time and the bell have buried the day,
The black cloud carries the sun away."
Especially since we lose 45 minutes of daylight in the month of September alone.
I actually look forward to this, since over the years my tinnitus has been generally less
severe when the colder, less humid temperatures establish themselves.
(This is also the case with my migraines).

No ENT Doctor has been able to provide a theory that explains this.
But every ENT Doctor I have seen simply states with utter finality, "there is nothing you can do about this", and betrays a stunning lack of curiosity regarding every aspect involving this condition.
I believe that the hot, humid temperatures cause swelling and inflammation that results in greater hearing loss. I may try a local, highly regarded acupuncturist.

Nice ~.~

Humid temps definitely cause swelling and inflammation in my hands, especially my fingers. I get pain and swelling in my knees, also. Today is exactly one of those days, my rings will not budge and my knuckles are sore and swollen. Today, with the humidity, it "feels like" 38 degrees celsius. Give me perpetual Fall, please.

I can't say that I can relate this to hearing loss, personally, though. Interesting all the same.

~ The thing about pain is that it demands to be felt.

"There
will always be
a glimmer
in those
who have been
through the dark."

Regarding the incredible fortitude and perseverance severe tinnitus sufferers have displayed :
"The will of Humanity is unconquerable. Even God cannot conquer it."
Malcolm Lowry, "Under the Volcano"

"There is nothing noble in being superior to your fellow man; true nobility is being superior to your former self."

"The world breaks everyone, and afterward, some are strong at the broken places."

- Ernest Hemingway

"If we truly wish to come through, we must determine to survive whatever tortuous conditions life throws at us:
it is no good believing that mummy, our fairy godmother, the man upstairs, or the sixth cavalry will somehow come to our rescue
- we can and we will do it!"

"At the bottom of the heart of every human being from earliest infancy until the tomb there is something that goes on indomitably expecting - in the teeth of all crimes committed, suffered, and witnessed - that good and not evil will be done to him or her. It is this above all that is sacred in every human being."
Simone Weil

"Those accused of negativity have reached a level of suffering you have yet to experience.
Expressing their pain is both a healthy and a right way forward.
They, more than ever, need our total support, not an expression of
self-preening superiority."

Actually there's more - Hemingway on Farewell to Arms - said please use the complete quote. The beginning was often quoted, but not the rest which reverses the meaning.

"The world breaks everyone and afterward many are strong in the broken places. But those that will not break it kills. It kills the very good and the very gentle and the very brave impartially. If you are none of these you can be sure it will kill you too but there will be no special hurry."

That could be the case for those with severe tinnitus, a dreadful disease or from having severe pain.

What a brilliant piece of writing.
Thank you Greg xx

The world (my mother's mental illness) broke me in the first days of my life.
She never came for me.
When my screaming stopped - I wept silently.
I was in pieces for years and finally put those pieces back together again.
These pictures tell the story.

"The only way to keep your health is to eat what you don't want, drink what you don't like, and do what you'd rather not."
Awesome quote...

It's more general - to maximize the chance of becoming successful one is to do what one would rather not...

My favorite quote: Hell is other people.

~The capacity to be alone is the capacity to love. It may look paradoxical to you, but it's not. It is an existential truth: only those people who are capable of being alone are capable of love, of sharing, of going into the deepest core of another person--without possessing the other, without becoming dependent on the other, without reducing the other to a thing, and without becoming addicted to the other. They allow the other absolute freedom, because they know that if the other leaves, they will be as happy as they are now. Their happiness cannot be taken by the other, because it is not given by the other.

I couldn't agree more.

~ As you are shifting, you will begin to realize that you are not the same person you used to be. The things you used to tolerate have become intolerable. When you once remained quiet, you are now speaking your truth. Where you once battled and argued, you are now choosing to remain silent. You are beginning to understand the value of your voice and there are some situations that no longer deserve your time, energy, and focus.~

Don't think about what can happen in a month. Don't think about what can happen in a year. Just focus on the 24 hours in front of you and do what you can to get closer to where you want to be."

Regarding the grotesque inequality of wealth in the US:
"Rich man and his poorer brother
Stood and looked at one another
Till the poor man softly swore
You'd not be rich if I were'nt poor."
Bertold Brecht

I read this book so many times as a kid I lost count. So many brilliant quotes.

I agree, Jcb, the Alice in Wonderland quotes are some of the best. The one that best fits me, that you posted is...

~ I knew who I was this morning, but I've changed a few times since then ~

Some times, though, I change multiple times, not just a few. :dohanimation:
