Cause of Tinnitus
Prolonged Noise Exposure and Somatic Combination
Hello all,

This is a bit of an emergency for me. I recently learned that Prednisone can be used after noise exposure, and I'm wondering if it could help in my situation.

Between 2 and 2.5 weeks ago, I was listening to high-frequency pure tones and frequency sweeps on YouTube at maximum volume, testing if I could hear certain tones. Unfortunately, I didn't consider the risks of using maximum volume, especially at frequencies like 15,000 Hz and 16,000 Hz, which I couldn't hear.

I used a combination of devices, including Sony MDR-7506 headphones, a USB speaker, and an iPhone 13. While I only did this a few times and not for long durations, I now have a tinnitus spike that has worsened over the last five days. Initially, I thought the spike was due to falling out of my previous habituation, as I recently switched from sound masking to sound enrichment.

I'm unsure whether I should try Prednisone or not, especially since it might be challenging to get medical attention during the holidays.

Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Alex

Hi @faithup,

I made a similar mistake. Over the course of a week, I listened to high-frequency pure tones for brief periods without realizing they were causing a huge spike.

Have you recovered?
