Probably the Worst Thing That Can Happen!

I'm really scared. It's quite loud right now. I'm thinking back. Yes there were times during the suction where's it sounded a little squealy, ("clarinetting"), but It was not painfully loud.

I think I've become a victim. I should said no to it, having had a new onset 2 days before it after some bowls smashed, as I mentioned. What have I done...

Nothing. It was not loud enough harm your ears in such a brief period of time. I get hit by sounds like this all the time. It's the prolonged noise and stress that makes my tinnitus worse. And my ears are sensitive and reactive. Anxiety like yours can jack it up. You'll be fine.

I really hope the microsuction didn't make me lose hearing.

Dear Josh...maybe you did lose hearing because you are not listening to what we are saying.....

Many have written the same things - that you are going to be okay. The "microscution" did not damage your ear. I think it caused you to have an anxiety attack which is rather normal but certainly not much fun.

It is a well known fact (or at least I've read about it in countless posts here) that once the wax is gone, it takes a while for T to begin to fade. It takes months for it to go away. There is no instant resolution/cure, as far as the ear is concerned.

I've woken up again today with a left ear that's still half deaf and feels very blocked. The tinnitus. I don't think I've had anything like this. Scary. High pitched screeching. Quite loud. Great.

a left ear that's still half deaf
Is it a full ear sensation?

Now all that remains to do is to hope that this is temporary. You might also try taking Prednisone or NAC (but please use this forum to research them first, to ensure that these drugs are right for you).

Pop in see your doctor or emergency care provider if you need help!
As you clearly are not coping with it and causing you stress and anxiety that won't help matters.
love glynis

could be sinus or allergy related .

yes Bill, but i was a full sensation before the micro-suction.

All I know is that there is still wax, but small bits were removed. I don't understand why it still feels full and its still distorted.

@glynis I'm panicking I have sudden sudden sensorineural hearing loss. The signs are all there. The ear pressure, the fact that high frequency sounds cant be heard well... (this was before the micro-suction by the way). 3 weeks ago, I woke up with a blocked sensation, did hearing test, found high frequencies were gone, next morning, they came back. Now it's happened again, except the high frequencies are not coming back. I don't think middle ear problems or wax are capable of doing this.

glad I did do a high frequency test before the suction. I can be more confident the suction didn't do it. But I can't hear the high frequcies well in the full ear, and it's been that way last few days. I've had it before but the high frequencies come back when the blockage moves. Nothing is changing this time I think I do have sudden hearing loss. Oh dear. Will try and go to a walk in clinic today?

So NOW I'm thinking... what if I already had hearing loss assuming it was wax, then the microsuction sound has made that hearing loss worse because ears are apparantly more vulnerable after hearing loss.

Don't use on line tests they are not accurate and never get two tests the same.
Get them only done by a audiologist and he can talk you through the results.
Good luck at walk in centre.

I don't understand this. How I came from a year of ear anxiety, seeing many audiologists about a problem with the right ear, only to be told there's so actual loss it's migraine related, to now having a real hearing loss in my left ear a year later at the age of 15.

Migraine can come with or with out headaches, head pressure and visual problems and anxiety.
Anxiety and stress alone can cause tinnitus and wax buildup.sinus problems,
Headphones etc, virus, allergies ,gut problems, water retention, head bangs,TMJ ,impacted wisdom teath, inner ear problems, lack of iron, lack of sleep ,loud music ,medications, drugs and maybe some I have missed.
Time will tell if it's here to stay as no magic wand.
Get your hearing checked by Audiology.

Well in order to that the wax needs to come out first. It's very close to the drum. I definelty have a conductive hearing loss in that ear. But, they'll of course want everything out of the ear before testing.

@JoshuaD2002 They told you it was migraine related? Do you have issues with your jaw? Any recent wisdom teeth extraction?
the tinnitus back in Feb yes, this hearing loss I don't know what this is. There's definetly still wax against the drum but as I said the nurse suctioned some of it out but it's still all distorted and feels blocked.

To be honest I think the tinnitus is worse. It got worse this afternoon weirdly straight after eating crunchy cereal. Of course my mind thinks that yesterdays suction did it. But in my opinion if the suction had done harm the effects would be quickly noticeable.

What does your last audiogram show? You might have jaw issues such as tmj. Ear fullness is common with tmj.

Who knows the wax could still be playing a part. The Nurse only got some of it out. There is still a pretty compacted lump in there that was never removed. I have no idea.

All I know is that ever since I blew my ears after using drops once, for no reason really, the feeling of fullness in my left ear has persisted. I can't see how I've possibly suffered a sudden permanent hearing loss it seems unlikely but I'm experiencing just that.

Ear fullness is a sign that your ears are hurt. It is not necessarily a sign that your hearing had been damaged. It can take a very long time for ear fullness to fully fade.

I'll re-iterate that the fullness began after I blew my ears and it never seemed to unclog, then after cotton bud pressing made the fullness worse etc. This really shouldn't be permanent sudden hearing loss without an actual worthy cause.

Well folks i just saw a nurse, and very pleasant nurse at that. She looked in my ear and she could see the lump of hard wax. It's right up against my eardrum. My ear canal is also waxy. Apparently this can alter ability to hear high frequency sounds because it restricted the eardrums movement. I suppose this kinda explains the feeling of fullness and muffled hearing.
