Probably the Worst Thing That Can Happen!

@JoshuaD2002 ,
I think a nasil spray will help but needs to be used daily for a couple of weeks to build up and dry out your tubes.

I'm a bit scared now because the ring that has followed (again always always in the right ear) is actually quite loud. I was super careful! Even so it did make a pop sound in the right ear rather than the gush of air sound. I'll have to hope it goes down. Furthermore it's just made my left ear feel 10x more blocked. I'm afraid I will have to go against doctors orders and avoid it completely.

Ears are best left alone but try the nasil spray it will clear the ear tubes from mucus.
My ears are having a rave so I know how it feels and wide awake on the sofa instead of in bed.

Thanks for the advice. Admittingly I ended up doing it twice in 5 minutes, which is probably what causes my tinnitus now. The reason was because the first time it really blocked things so I bad to do it again. My right ear is really ringing now how could this manoeuvre even be capable of this when done carefully...

I suppose my worst thought is just not being able to live with myself.

I'm obviously thinking of the worst case scenario: permanent very loud tinnitus in right ear because of something I did. I've done it 5 times today safely. I'm pretty scared now because of the loudness. Surely because it's always the right ear affected it might be air pressure related? Seems too impossible otherwise. The noise it makes certainly isn't as loud as my dog barking - which doesn't even cause a spike. Let alone a very loud one.

Straining on the toilet can spike tinnitus also so keep your bowls open.

If you stop harming yourself, the most likely scenarios are that either T will eventually stop or that you will end up with a permanent T that is pretty quiet (can be heard only in quiet rooms).

Very worried about this left ear high frequency loss. Hoping it will improve...

And the fact that this very loud tinnitus, presumably from the manoeuvre, hasn't gone away at all this morning.

Seeing an ENT tomorrow thankfully via private healthcare. Definitely I think sudden hearing loss occurred or I damaged it with the manoeuvre it feels very full and the high frequencies.... could be middle ear because I know they mess with the higher end of frequencies but I'm pretty scared. 8:45am tomorrow.

@JoshuaD2002 ,
It will settle down over a few days and run it's course.
I have not slept most of the night due to a mega spike and like yourself It will reduce so try relax and ride it out.

Oh my goodness this is very very loud. I just don't understand how one pop of the ears does this. And this is the right ear ringing loudly when the problem has been with the left for the last 2 weeks

I somehow think this is here to stay. This is my punishment for a common manoeuvre that was recommended by a doctor. Great! It's true that when I last did it last night, it decided to make a pop sound in the right ear. But, surely there would've been defense mechanisms present. Let's not forget that when you know a sound is about to happen, which I did because I did it with little force and waiting for it to happen, your ears defend themselves. Like when you scream, it doesn't damage you in the way someone else screaming at you would. I literally don't understand how this has caused loud whining in my ear.

If anything I'd expect it to maybe cause a slight ring (again if done carefully), but not this...

OH NOOOOO
How can I be this unlucky: I was sitting here stressing about the tinnitus, fiddling with my ears, I was using my fingers and kind of pushing the bottom part of ear in, which is more of a habit, and when I let go, both ears make a pop sound from the wet wax/olive oil. I feel like I'm cursed honestly I do. How will this ring go now? I might be overreacting because the sound seemed loud but didn't hurt or feel uncomfortable, but neither did the valsalva. Why do these keep happening? I was sceptical about God's existence but now I think there is one and he is literally making these things happen.

Just waiting to be diagnosed with some inner ear permanent injury. I'm really concerned I damaged my inner ear from doing the manoeuvre. When I was doing it a couple weeks back I wasn't trying to be gentle and sometimes I would end up doing it hard.

I should not have 8khz loss

Hey @JoshuaD2002 you need to relax and calm down my friend. Everything your typing is out of pure anxiety and fear of the unknown. Please leave your ears alone and keep yourself busy doing things you enjoy. Distract your brain so the noise isn't the only thing your focused on. If you sit around playing with your ears and listening to your T it will just make things worst. It's perfectly normal for T to change a bit. This happens to me all the time. Don't make assumptions that it's permanent give it time to heal. It's most likely temporary. Relax.

Thanks for your reply i just feel so clumsy and confused. Clumsy because, sometimes in Summer my nose gets a little stuffed. I blew my nose (not too hard), but just hard enough so the right ear popped again! I checked on the tinnitus and sure enough I think it's spiked just like when I gently did it last night. Thing is, I don't get why every time I do it, accientally or deliberately, I get ringing in my right ear. The left is unaffected. The right though... this isn't even the ear I've had problems with? Makes me really confused. I suppose it's all part of learning to be more careful as I am young. Do you think this tinnitus regarding this manoeuvre will settle? Even though I slipped up earlier :(

Less than 12 hours from ENT specialist appointment. I know I've lost high frequencies in the left so I am very scared.

For example, I find my dog barking much louder than popping my ears, but that doesn't cause loud tinnitus in my right ear. Why is this manoeuvre doing this then? (By the way the accidental thing today is the only time I've done it today. But now there is loud ringing in my right ear. I refuse to believe that this could possibly do damage... billions of people do it every day...

Do both of your ears feel clogged or only your left? And is that why your doing the valsalva manoeuvre?

Would be a shame if there's permanent hearing loss at 15 years old...

Admittingly when I first felt clogged about 3 weeks ago I was quite angry and did the ear popping movement many times during the day and I wasn't trying to be gentle about it. It just made my ears, and the left one in particular, feel worse. I just still don't think that would do permanent damage. In my opinion, the only damage most likely is to the eardrum.

One ENT said once to someone in my family to do it like 30 times an hour. Anyhow I'm very scared right now so any reassurance that I shouldn't have caused permanent damage would be greatly appreciated. Very scared...

I'm betting that you don't have any hearing loss and that the clogged feeling is from the wax. Your tinnitus may improve once this issue is dealt with. I'd discontinue that maneuver until you see the ENT.

I think it might be wax and middle ear, because I can kinda hear some liquid in there. Mucus or something I don't know but I can hear liquid in my middle ear. Right now though there is loud ringing in my right ear from the popping the ears manoeuvre. Thing is I have been so gentle with it. Started when I blew my ears last night very carefully. Hasnt gone down? This makes me really scared. Maybe to do with ear pressure I don't know... The ringing in my right ear though, it's like a squealing noise. It's really loud? How could the manoeuvre cause this?? I was really careful and only done a few times a day. (Once today accidentally which hasn't helped). But it's really loud!

Urgent situation need advice.

So, yes it's true that I have terrible health anxiety. Always worrying about conditions I never have (the ear fullness and hearing loss was caused by wax, which was taken out).

But. I'm still having a major problem from popping the ears a few days ago. My right ear has been ever since, and it gets alot worse if I plug my ears, (pressure sensitive). Now, I've also been feeling a little dizzy... however, this started like 2 days after the valsalva manoeuvre thing. I have done it since because the ENT needed me to do it to demonstrate that I can. I said how the tinnitus started since the popping the ears. He didn't show any concern but asked if I listen to loud music. Which, I don't. Hearing test on the day showed good result.

I've been reading...
Pressure sensitive tinnitus, tinnitus after valsalva manoeuvre, dizziness (which started a while after but could be stress related). No hearing loss though.

Dilemma: I'm supposed to be getting on a plane for a 4 hour flight tomorrow. I'm scared I have like an inner ear barotrauma or perilymph fistula. But, there's no ear fullness of pain or hearing loss, though the internet suggests it could be possible. So basically, since gently doing the valsalva thing, something has clearly happened to cause pressure sensitive tinnitus which is also reactive. What could be going on?

How did your flight go?

It went ok I made every effort to avoid middle ear blockage and it somewhat worked. But, I'm still feeling quite dizzy and have tinnitus. I have increased head pressure, especially bending down. So, I'm basically panicked that I really do have a perilymph fistula. Can't enjoy my holiday like this.

I'm glad your flight went well. Did you ask an ENT about the dizziness?
