Recent Tinnitus Spike Likely from Headphone Use — Very Severe Anxiety

It's about time you saw the Dr. lol. What are the ingredients in those eardrops? If it's homeopathic my guess is it couldn't hurt.
These are the ingredients, I don't think any of them are bad?? It says not to use them without a proper diagnosis tho, which I didn't see until now unfortunately.

I actually had an audiologist trivialize tinnitus and hyperacusis as things that would just go away if I simply didn't pay attention to them.
That's what they all say. Idiots.

EDIT: That advice may have merit when your tinnitus is mild, or when it has reached a stable manageable level. But if you have gone to them because you have severe tinnitus that is waking you up at night, or because you have suffered temporary hearing loss and ear pain, then that is the most dangerous advice you can be given.

I just wanted to ask, I've been using this for my earaches because the more they hurt the louder my tinnitus, and I was wondering if that's a bad thing?

My mom just told me to use it so I blindly did both today and yesterday. It actually did help for a couple hours yesterday, but then got bad again a few hours later. Does that mean it's helping or??? Is it worse in the long run??

Is that the actual bottle that you use? If so, have you noticed it expired 5 years ago?

I went to the doctor today and she immediately saw an infection in my right ear. I've been prescribed antibiotics (Amoxcillin) and some nasal spray. I may have an infection in only one ear, but both are affecting me. Both hurting, and ringing very loudly. I got some Tylenol for headaches and such, and some fresh, new ear drops that aren't expired. I'm currently in a silent room, but I'm not experiencing anything close to silence right now, it sucks, but I'm assuming since it's an infection, that's what's making it spike up? I've heard the slightest ear irritation can cause tinnitus to go crazy, so I'm assuming once my infection clears up, things will start being better for me.

As much as an infection sucks it's a good thing they were able to find a culprit. Really would've sucked if they sent you home without finding anything. Let us know how you get along. Hopefully once it clears up your tinnitus will fade.

I'm positive once the infection fades things will start to improve. Though I do find it odd only my right ear is infected and both my ears are bugging me, my doctor said that was normal so I'm gonna assume that's correct.

I just got home and it feels like the worst it's been so far— it's loud, I feel it roaring in my ears

Yesterday I was starting to feel better now I'm back at square one it seems. I'm not sure what's wrong with me.

I'm taking my meds as prescribed, I'm not wearing any headphones or actively exposing myself to loud sounds.

I'm not sure what to do now. I've been getting a roar sound when I come in from sounds to dead silence, and usually it fades into something else the longer I sit in silence. I just don't know what's wrong with me. As I type right now the roar is going to a high pitched sound? My tinnitus NEVER used to fluctuate so much like this, even when I first got it.

I'm guessing that you may not notice an improvement in tinnitus until after the infection has completely cleared and you are off the meds. I've read that while amoxicillin is considered one of the safest antibiotics it is still ototoxic. What can ya do, it's a necessary evil. It or the nasal sprays may be contributing to the tinnitus fluctuation. Hang in there.

I guess you're right. I really wish I caught onto this infection when the symptoms started, instead of waiting for over two weeks.

So it's been a hot minute since I've been active, and honestly the reason why was because I was starting to improve. I began sleeping in my own bedroom, without even putting my noise machine on. It was there but it was a lot more manageable.

A few days ago I finished my medication and now it seems back where it was, aching, fullness off the ear, and louder ringing. Yes I did start wearing headphones on the bus again, mainly just because the screaming I heard on there was causing my ringing to get worse, so I needed something to cancel out that noise. I think the infection is still there. I'll stop wearing headphones again, or might just put them on with no sound to block it out, idk. It's just frustrating, finally got improvement and then yesterday, on my birthday, it started to get worse again.

I really do think the infection just hasn't fully cleared still, but I don't see my doctor again until the seventeenth, which makes this all the more difficult, I won't know for sure until then.

Tonight is really hard. I'm trying not to sleep with my mom but it's so loud and I'm getting panicky again. The aching just won't settle down in the slightest, it's almost worse than before, I don't know what to do, I have school, I can't miss another day over this, I'm failing.

Hi Danielle, I do feel sorry for you, you're very young to have to cope with such severe tinnitus it's no wonder you feel so alone in all this. Does your school/college offer any counselling, it may help if you just had someone to talk to about your anxiety. There are lots of helpful relaxation links on you tube, maybe listening to one would help you. I'm new on here so I do t want to post any links as I'm not sure if they're allowed.
I do hope you start to feel better soon.

Went to go see Sonic tonight, unfortunately we had to sit in the front since most seats were taken, so it was pretty loud, the loudest sound I've been exposed to since probably the concert in September. I did bring ear plugs but never put them in, mainly because it wasn't loud at all, but at a couple parts it got unexpectedly loud and now I'm having fullness in my ear. My tinnitus is about the same as it has been, maybe a little louder, but not my much.

Should the fullness go away by tomorrow? That's what's bugging me most right now.

Tell yourself (the truth!) that chances are this spike is a temporary spike (most spikes are, it isn't easy to get a permanent spike). Temporary spikes can take over 3 months to clear, but most of them begin to fade after about a month. When one is a month in and doesn't notice any fading, one is justified about worrying about the spike being permanent. For now it is reasonable to assume that it is temporary, so there is no good reason to worry and be anxious.
Hi Bill. What about fluctuations in a spike? I mean; my tinnitus got worse one and a half month ago. Thought it was a spike but it hasn't subsided yet but strangely I've been through random days of it being really quiet. Usually I woke up to quiet tinnitus then it ramped up as the day passed, now is almost the opposite. I wake up to horrendous tinnitus then it seems to calm a bit along the day. What a maddening condition this is.

The pressure in unbearable right now. And my regular tinnitus that's usually high pitched has changed to a low pitch in my right ear, right where the pressure is. I don't know if this is from the movie or my cold now. And I'm freaking out. I was just getting better. It seems each time improvement starts something awful happens again. I feel like I have water in my ear and I have no idea what I can do to treat it.

I've been suffering from this spike for almost three weeks now. I went to the doctor on Friday and she saw a sinus infection. I got prescribed Cefdinir because she didn't want me to take Amoxicillin again... immediately after a day and a half of use my tinnitus is even louder. I don't think I've ever had it this bad before. My ears have been hurting both on the inside and outside of my ear, and there's still pressure in my ears as well. Not sure what to do anymore, if this doesn't improve I don't see a future for myself.

I stopped taking my antibiotics for 24 hours now, no improvement, maybe it wasn't from them? I don't know. I read that a sinus infection won't clear without them so I'm stuck. Don't have a clue on what to do. Threw up again this morning.

What happened with the ear infection, did it clear? Seems odd that now this has turned into a sinus infection, although I guess it's not outside the realm of possibility. If you do have a genuine infection I'd stay on the antibiotics. I'm not doubting your doctor but this all seems very strange. I wouldn't be surprised if the ear symptoms were due to hyperacusis.

The doctor said my ear infection cleared and right after I saw her I got a cold, and that's when all these symptoms started. She said she can see congestion in my ears too. The sound is very inconsistent, sometimes it's loud and then it's a little quieter, but it's been bothering me nonstop the past couple weeks.

My tinnitus has been spiked on and off since January.

The past week or so have a been a real struggle for me, especially the past two days. Suddenly it got so loud I could hear it over my white noise, over my fan, even over my music at times. I then left to see my grandparents yesterday, once I got home my ears felt all jacked up, and my t was louder again, loud enough to cause panic to rush through my brain. I noticed one of my ears hurt really bad so I went to check what it was and saw a pimple and THREE blackheads. I don't know if these can have anything to do with tinnitus, but they definitely have caused irritation to my ears. Both my ears just suddenly started getting some awful pressure again too, like they did back when I got my sinus infection back in February.

I'm positive I have ETD, but I can't see a specialist, I've tried and tried, we can't ever get an appointment that's soon enough. I don't know what's causing this one, I'm not taking any medication, no loud noise exposure.

The only possible thing I can think of is stress and anxiety, but that wouldn't make my ear pressure worse right?? I just don't know. I need help, please. I just want some hope.

I also have had some out of control panic attacks. I force myself to do...
1) Don't beat yourself up with should of, could of, would of.
2) No concerts or large gatherings ever again. period
3) Reflect on what I do have 2 eyes, 2 arms, 2 legs, etc.
4) Send quite time with my animals everyday.
5) If & when possible go to the ocean, stream, river. sit & zone out.
6) I try not to think too far down the road, that's when I get into hysteria..the rest of my life with this?
7) Table top radio low volume 24/7 with relaxing music Baroque.

Always easier to give advice than take it, just speaking for myself.

Tinnitus does not reflect on you as a human being. You're meant to be here on this earth and maybe needed to help someone dealing with trouble in their lives whether it's tinnitus, cancer, a personal loss. You can be there for them with empathy.
Take care.

My tinnitus is definitely mostly due to Ototoxicity.
For the first few months or so I struggled with HyperAcusis -
But that disappeared eventually.

Now I can handle just about any normal to moderate noise levels without too much of a problem.

Although some noises do make me psychologically uncomfortable due to the fact that I know I have tinnitus-
But that seems to be the extent of it.

But the list of drugs that cause me permanent damage is very long-
Including lidocaine from the dentist.
Which is a big problem for me.

Oddly enough-
Lidocaine does temporarily reduce my tinnitus after a visit to the dentist.

But the next day it's back and permanently worse than ever.

So if tinnitus is drug induced-
Some like me may not bothered at all by normal to moderate noise exposure.

But I also believe I became vulnerable to Ototoxicity in the first place because my ears where already severely compromised by extreme over exposure to dangerous noise levels from working construction my whole life and hundreds of rock concerts.

But the noise exposure was not what initially caused the tinnitus to rear it's ugly head.
It was without doubt the Ototoxic soup of drugs I was abusing.

I guess my point is that if you got tinnitus from an acoustic trauma-
I believe that you may be that much more vulnerable to further damage by Ototoxicity from meds.

But if you got tinnitus from Ototoxicity-
You may still be able to tolerate most noise levels- but possibly not most meds.

Needless to say-
Everyone with tinnitus should probably avoid what is considered dangerous noise levels to normal ears at just about all costs-
Regardless of what caused the tinnitus.
