Out of curiosity, can I ask how far that distance would be? I always wonder about travel inside other countries since I'm the U.S. I drove nearly 12 hours roundtrip three times to see several specialists. It was worth it for my rare concerns, but I realize not everyone can do that nor is it necessary for every medical condition.

Is it possible for TT to verify that? The doctor's corner seems verified.

Honestly, it's the internet so anyone could be lying. Though someone would be pretty mean to lie to people who are vulnerable. Then again, on a mother's forum I frequent a member claimed to be pregnant with twins and then miscarry. Everyone was sad and supportive, until we realized she'd never even been pregnant and made it all up. Oh and she was actually a he.

It would be about 6 hours one way. Id do it depending on the specialist needed etc. But there are plenty of ENTs around do not necessary to travel that far for that reason.

If I did have a journey like that to do I would stay overnight.

Yes, that could definitely cause someone to lie on a health forum! I always hoped the man who pretended online to a pregnant woman sought out mental health help.

If you ever decide to travel, Dr Palanniapan is an NHS ENT consultant at the Royal National Throat, Nose and Ear Hospital in London. He has a special interest in tinnitus and has a really good team round him - audiologist, hearing therapist, psychological help.

We definitely had the most thorough checks through him - MRI and hearing. Saying that, because my son's tinnitus is somatosensory caused by a weightlifting incident (no hearing loss) and he didn't want to go down the psychological route (having already tried TRT with Dr Laurence McKenna) Dr P couldn't help further within his sphere of knowledge.

But I found the whole team exceptionally supportive and helpful during our time with them. Very understanding.

How did your son's injury cause Tinnitus?

Up until recently I was working in Brum, though I live in Yorkshire. I always find Brummies very friendly. Which bit are you from?

Well, we are not sure, but damage to the TMJ and/or neck is causing the tinnitus most probably. Wish we could find the injury and sort it! Although eighteen months later it could be that the tinnitus is chronic and the injury has mended. I prefer to think though that we can get some improvement - it can still happen years after the original insult.

Oh yes, we Brummies are very friendly lol! Quite a shock when I went down south and in some parts people were afraid to talk to you ... or maybe it's just me!! I'm from Bournville - a short distance from Cadburys chocolate factory. Whereabouts were you in Brum? Yorkshire people are very friendly too - I went to Sheffield Uni a few (!) years ago (when The Human League etc were about there) and liked Yorkshire a lot. God's own country and all that... !

Btw @Louise what about Nottingham? Don't they do lots of hearing research at the Uni there?
