Refused an MRI

Cause of Tinnitus
I don't know
Degenerative arthritis and bone spurs in my neck cause my tinnitus. I was thinking of looking into laser surgery but the only ones that I could find in the area require you to bring in your own MRI for them to examine. These are some of the top hospitals in Boston. I had gone to the local hospital emergency room where I was given a CAT Scan.

After looking at it they said I needed to contact my primary care doctor and have her schedule an MRI. She said that she didn't do that because it was up to whoever was going to provide any spine services to provide the MRI. I went to the spine doctor with just the CAT Scan and he treated me with pain numbing injections that helped the pain for a while but did nothing for the spasms that are causing the tinnitus. I can feel the spasms shoot up the back of my neck into the muscles in the ears.

Doctors don't believe me. My doctor won't schedule an MRI. All this crap is wearing me down.

I just found one that will accept Cat Scan images to do a free examination. I can get copies of my CAT Scan from the local hospital and I found a records request form from Mass Eye and Ear that I downloaded from their website and I will mail it asking for a copy of the more complex CAT Scan that I received there. I hope this will lead to at least some relief. It sometimes seems that doctors don't like patients diagnosing themselves.

Find a new primary care physician. And if that doctor won't order an MRI then get a referral to an orthopedic surgeon that specializes in neck problems. That doc will no doubt order an MRI, probably on your first visit. Alternately, you can go to an MRI clinic yourself and pay out of pocket and get the MRI that way. Those MRI places have opened up in every major city.

*I'm having a hard time believing your "spine doc" won't order an MRI. I've seen plenty of bone/joint doctors over the years and universally they have ordered MRI's without batting an eye. Feet, knee, hip, shoulder, spine. So I'm not getting why they won't order one for you unless of course you are telling them that your problem is solely tinnitus and not neck pain. Spine doctors respond to symptoms of pain in the areas that they specialize in. Tinnitus isn't on their check list hence no MRI. It's not that hard to figure out.

Gee thanks. I just love being called stupid. Did you actually read my thread:

I went to the spine doctor with just the CAT Scan

I have a spine surgeon that is treating me for my arthritis. What's so hard to understand about that? Does your mommy know you're playing with the computer?

I didn't call you stupid, I implied it based upon the facts you had laid out in your post. Your defensiveness proves the implication correct, surprise surprise. :)

Additionally, your juvenile response fails to address the points I have made. Your spine surgeon's refusal to order an MRI makes no sense, unless of course you are leaving out relevant facts of your story. Every MRI that I have ever had has been ordered by the specialist I have seen, not by my primary care physician. So if this "spine surgeon" is actually an orthopedic surgeon that is to do work on your neck then he/she should be the one to order the MRI. If that doctor is refusing to order an MRI then that doctor is clearly NOT planning on doing surgery on your neck.

There is absolutely no way an orthopedic surgeon is going to operate on your neck without an MRI. And more importantly, that orthopedic surgeon will order the MRI directly from his/her office. If there is some sort of bizarre insurance issue with ordering the MRI from that particular office the orthopedic surgeon would simply relay that info to your primary care doc asking him to order it and it would not be a problem. The bottom line is that if you are undergoing neck surgery involving your cervical spine area the surgeon doing the procedure will order an MRI. The bones of the neck are an area that they don't take chances with. Too much could go wrong if they start cutting into that area blind. Duh!

At any rate, you're full of shit and just looking to whine about nonsense. No wonder the doctors you have been seeing are fed up with you. Now stop making up fantastical bullshit stories to level-up your victim-hood status. It's tedious and juvenile, drama queen.

Erniej does the CAT / CT scan show enough info you think to treat you?

According to the drama queen's story your query is moot. He is claiming that his "spine doctor" wants him to provide an MRI report but this same "doctor" does not want to order that MRI himself. This makes absolutely no sense at all therefore the drama queen's story is fake. No matter how you slice it the drama queen's story doesn't add up.

"Erniej does the CAT / CT scan show enough info you think to treat you?"
Well, that would be up to any doctor that would see the results. If I was to pursue it I think that it might be determined that my condition has not degenerated enough to warrant surgery. That's how my current spine surgeon sees it. I go back to him on Thursday to see if the nerve numbing injections were successful enough to go back to UmassMemorial and have the nerves numbed by a hot needle. That's basically how he described it. I don't know what type of imaging system that he was using but he was instructing the attending nurse as where to move it around so he could have the best image as he was doing the injections into my neck. Jesus they hurt. But I was pain free for five weeks. If he thought I needed surgery I think he would have gone that route. Going to the Boston Hospital Spine treatment websites was just me grasping at straws. They injected me with a dye at Mass Eye and Ear while they did the CAT Scan so that was very accurate. Like I said, I'm just grasping at straws at this point. Thank you for your concern :)

I owe you an apology. I usually don't engage in a battle of wits with an unarmed opponent. Please shut up. The adults are trying to have a conversation.
You should quit while you're still behind.

Shut up, you'll never be the man your mother is.

You're just salty balls cuz I called you out on your blatantly fake tale of woe. Boo hoo Nancy, boo hoo. :woot:

How you expect logical people to swallow this load of horse shit is beyond me. Clearly you are not going to an actual orthopedic surgeon because if you were there would be no issue when it comes to ordering an MRI. Me thinks your term "spine doctor" is a euphemism for a chiropractor. Nice try kid but we're not buying.

:thankyousign:

Again, you prove my point: you're a drama queen liar. You've provided absolutely zero proof of your claims. The only thing you've done in this thread is give a whiny tale of woe followed by insults. That's it. Nothing else. This is because you can't logically defend your own statements of being refused an MRI. You weren't refused an MRI from an orthopedic surgeon for neck surgery because an MRI is standard for neck surgery involving the vertebrae. This is a fact of objective reality. No amount of lying and whining on your part will change this fact of reality. Period.

For anyone else that sees this as a support forum you can go here and see that this hospital wants you to bring your own MRI. I rest my case.

You will see that it states right on their website at the bottom, "*Our MRI review is an informational review of the MRI report that you provide to us and is not a form of diagnosis. A diagnosis and a final determination of whether you may benefit from treatment at Laser Spine Institute can only be made after you have been physically examined by our medical professionals at Laser Spine Institute. The MRI Review has no value and will not be billed."

OMG, you can't seriously be this obtuse.

In my very first post I said you could go to an imaging clinic and get an MRI yourself. And you accuse me of not reading thoroughly. Good Christ.

Also, the statement you quote says that the MRI review "has no value" and "is not to form a diagnosis". So if it's not to be used to diagnose your problem then what the hell is it for????????????????????????

Listen buddy, if you want to go to a place that requires you to bring them the diagnostic tools which they will then NOT diagnose you with have fun. Sane, non-neurotic people like me will stick with going to actual medical doctors who know what they're doing. Good luck with your "laser surgery" from your "spine doctor" who can't be bothered to write up a simple diagnostic order. Sounds like you're in good hands there, lol. :p

You really should look into getting some professional help. You are way out of control.
As far as "we're not buying." I don't think that other people supporting this forum appreciate your putting words in their mouths.

Perhaps you can suggest someone to see? Maybe the therapist that is treating you for being a pathological liar? After all, I've proven your story to be nothing but a gigantic lie so clearly you are a liar. You claim you can't get an MRI yet I've proven that you can get an MRI. This is a fact of reality. It can't be denied. So, lying drama queen is a liar. It's as simple as that, sweetheart. ;)

Again, good luck with this "laser surgery". Let us know how it turns out. (y)

"Us?" Once again. Putting words into other people's mouths.
Take a long, slow breath in. Hold it. Now let it out slowly. There you go. Feel better?
I can see that your really upset. Do you have a friend that you can call? No? I didn't think so.

I can see by your avatar that your homophobic.
That's really classy coming here slamming gay people.
This is no place to be bringing that kind of hostility.
Are you into racial profiling also?

This is a Tinnitus support forum.
Please stop personal attacks as I'm sure it's against the T&C of the forum.

And here you provide the coup de gras when it comes to proving what a clueless drama queen you are. It's no secret that I'm gay as I proudly admitted it in the gay thread on this site months ago, genius. Being homosexual pretty much precludes me from being homophobic. I am moron-phobic though, which explains my reaction to you, go figure.

Now let's get back to your ridiculous lie that you can't get an MRI. It's a fact of reality that any orthopedic surgeon (or neurosurgeon) that is going to do a procedure involving the cervical vertebrae will order an MRI virtually without exception. There is no way in hell that one of those doctors would refuse to order an MRI for the type of procedure they are going to perform. Would. Never. Happen. Period!

Additionally, I pointed out that if there is an issue with insurance covering the MRI (which you made no mention of by the way) you could go to any number of imaging centers and pay out of pocket for an MRI. But you don't want to hear that because it deflates your drama queen statement that you can't get an MRI.

In short, your entire "argument" is without merit. You make vague statements about a "spine doctor" but don't clarify if your "spine doctor" is an actual orthopedic surgeon or just a quack chiropractor. I strongly suspect the latter as, like I said, any orthopedic surgeon that is going to do a procedure on your cervical vertebrae wouldn't hesitate to order an MRI. (And expecting your primary care physician to order an MRI in this instance is nonsensical, so you have no complaint there, Einstein.)

Lastly, if we're going to talk trash about avatars let me just point out that you have a murderous thug as your icon. That shows exactly the kind of low-morals and dim-witted thinking that you operate under. Your mother must be so proud.

Now begone drama queen! Take your fake whining about your imaginary mistreatment by the medical establishment back to the Miley Cyrus forum you usually hang out at.
