Regretting My MRI Scan

Tinnitus Since
July 21st 2015 with short phases before
Cause of Tinnitus
Most probably stress/anxiety
I had an MRI scan on Sunday 25th November, it was for my right arm so I was put in the scanner feet first and then in a Superman position; arms first. The Superman position was very stressful on my body and I only had the spongey ear plugs for protection as it was not possible to wear headphones.

Anyway I was in the scanner well over an hour. Since this scan my T has been much more prominent, especially on the left side of my head, It is like going back to square one again, July 2015 when my tinnitus first appeared.

I think my tinnitus was stress induced rather than noise induced but it is louder since my MRI scan, I feel utterly miserable and hard done by. I regret having the MRI scan. Has anyone else encountered this?

Also I have been off work this week so maybe I notice it more? I don't know.

MRI's are so loud. I almost pushed the emergency button when i was in there, i was scared to death that it would make my T. worse. It was maybe a little bit louder for a couple of days, but i will never take one again. Hoping for you that it will go back to baseline.

@Caryli, thanks a lot, I am hoping and preying. Tinnitus rules our lives.

I have severe tinnitus and hyperacusis because an MRI.(4 years)
The exam lasted two hours. The noise was very loud. When I finished the exam I was almost deaf. Be careful because several doctors do not know that !When they will open their eyes to this, after my testimony, I have read several people regretting to have done MRI

Did you have hearing protection? I have had four MRIs this year, including one that was nearly two hours. No change to my hearing.

Yes I used the spongey ear protectors that go inside the ears, it wasn't possible to wear headphones as I was in a "Superman" position.

I have MRI on sunday. I am scared. I am also scared of the content.

i am so glad i never went...my ENT wanted me to go to rule out cancer...of course no warning of wearing ear protection for it either...hope things get better for you

I had an MRI scan done once back in 2015 and was aware it would be loud, they provided ear protection for me then. Later in the year I did experience a spike in my tinnitus, that lasted for the best part of two weeks. Was scary at the time though!

Why would your ENT want to rule out cancer if you knew that your T was due to the rimshot attempt on your snare drum? (as you state in your profile)

It was a just-in-case approach...despite the fact that the events were directly correlated
