Hello, I'm looking for advice from those who have had successful outcomes with TRT.
Hi
@MiaVIL.
I have had TRT twice with good results. This treatment must be administered correctly for it to work. Some people claim to have had TRT but have had nothing of the sought. The treatment can last up to two years. Regular counseling with a TRT specialist is required, and wearing white noise generators for sound therapy is necessary. A sound machine should be placed by the bedside at night for sound enrichment.
Please read my TRT posts on my started threads.
I have mild high-frequency hearing loss and want to start using hearing aids with sound therapy to help with healing. However, I don't experience ringing. Instead, I hear crackling, electric shocks in my ears, metallic shrieking, and tapping sounds that radiate into my head.
People with hearing loss and tinnitus should be fitted with hearing aid(s) to restore their hearing to optimum. If you fail to do this, then it's likely the tinnitus will become louder and more intrusive. Once the brain is supplied with increased sounds from the outside environment via hearing aid(s), it will no longer have to compensate for the sounds it cannot hear and will lower its internal gain, which acts similar to a volume control. By doing this, the tinnitus will usually be reduced. Therefore, it's important you are fitted with a hearing aid(s). Hearing aids can also be fitted with white noise generators.
Tinnitus comes in many forms and intensities; not two people experience it differently. If hyperacusis is present, it can complicate matters further. However, you do not hear ringing. The noises you describe sound like tinnitus, and you may be also experiencing some oversensitivity to sound.
Some people believe that TRT should cure their tinnitus, but this is not the purpose of the treatment. It is a retraining of the mind and the way one thinks about tinnitus and its impact on one's life. My posts on TRT explain this in more detail.
These symptoms are very disturbing, and I'm wondering: how did you manage sound therapy when your tinnitus was at its worst? As you habituated, did the sound therapy become easier to listen to?
Some people with severe tinnitus may also need medication to help manage the condition. Medication may also be needed when a person is having TRT, CBT, or counseling with an audiologist for tinnitus and hyperacusis management. Each person is different. Therefore, medication may not necessarily have to be taken long-term.
Habituation takes time and cannot be rushed. Please read my habituation posts on my started threads.
I wish you well,
Michael
