Tinnitus Since
2012?
I've only been diagnosed with T for a week or two.

I've noticed that salt, alcohol and stress can set it off. Actually... SILENCE is worse.

When I sleep... it ROARS. It's a very low frequency... like a work truck outside.

What do you do to stop the noise when the world goes to sleep?

I usually try and play some sort of nature music.i find anything water related really works for me :)

Or play a very quiet podcast. It sort of reminds me of listening to radio.

I hope that helps :)

For me, radio did not help, because it requires more active listening. I agree that nature sounds, or other constant soft sounds, work the best.

In addition, you could try taking a natural supplement that is calming and sleep-inducing, such as melatonin, valerian root, etc. I also take magnesium, which is calming, and helps me settle down.

Some people use sound pillows or headbands and play constant sound. Others use a fan as a background humming noise. The key is have a steady soft sound that will help mask the ringing.

I use a sound machine that has an actual fan inside, but I have found as I expect you will that quiet rooms can be nice once you get over the initial shock of having tinnitus. Nowadays I alternate masking noise or no masking noise depending on how I'm feeling at night. Lots of nights I go with no masking.

Try this App on iTunes called 'iRetrainer'. It might help

Does radio help?
Ummm it may! :) what ever really helps you. Lots of people on here I'm sure use all sorts of sounds. I've heard of water fountains, air conditioners (I'm looking for one now), a quiet fan, nature sounds. All sorts of things

Depending on where you live I sometimes just leave my window open and the sounds from the city below me sometimes do the trick
