Hi,

I have tinnitus in my left ear for two ear now and I am quite accustomed to the noise. I was diagnosed with hearing loss in my right ear.

Recently, today someone slapped me on my left ear, the one with tinnitus and there is a spike, loud one and fullness. I am not sure about the intensity or force with which I was hit but the spike is loud. I can hear a hissing and beep on top of other sounds too.

My question is will this spike go down? Or is it something permanent?

Welcome to the forum. The slapping has probably caused acoustic trauma to the ears. They may become unstable for a while with spikes, ear fullness and perhaps other symptoms. If this happened recently within weeks, you may want to get doctors to give you a course of prednisone to try to help the healing. Generally, the intensity of the ringing is toughest at the beginning of the spike and then given some time, with you not giving the ringing too much attention, the spike has a good chance to settle down. Keep living and get busy. Try not to focus on it. Stay positive and relax. Hopefully the spikes will settle to baseline for you. Take care. God bless.

Did the slap seal the ear? Did you feel air pressure from the slap going deep into the ear and then reverse suction when the palm was removed? It all depends on the severity of the slap and if it sealed you ear. If it did seal the ear and you have had a major spike with ear fullness I would try and get some prednisone as billie48 said as soon as possible.

Thank you all for the instant responses. I just woke up and i dont feel fulness anymore but the spike is still there with same intensity.
It all happened so instantly.. i dont quite remember if my ear was sealed or of i felt reverse suction since it all happened in a blink. I do recall that i was hit on the ear and there and then a hissing and louder noise started.
Its been almost 10hrs since it happened. I dont feel any pain in my ear or fulness now. Its just the spike thats there.

Will the spike go to the baseline? Or i am going to hear it forever? How long is it going to take for the spike to go back to the base line?

Been 24hrs now but the intensity of noise is same. So my question stands.. Will the spike go to the baseline? Or i am going to hear it forever? How long is it going to take for the spike to go back to the base line?

I had that happen to me. My 8 year old was horse-playing around with me and he hit me in the ear that normally does not act up. It created a ringing that lasted all evening but eventually calmed back down (though now I seem to have more tinnitus activity out of the left ear, but not often.)

I hope mine calms down too.. i was playing with my four year old and he kind of slapped my left year.. it was too instant for me to remember but it was with enough force that i can hear a combination of sounds, hissing, squeal, and beep from that year.. this happened on a sunday evening and today is thursday and the spike is still there. However i dont feel any pain or fullness so i didnt go to my primary care..

Guys its been two weeks and the spike is still there and its really loud.. i didnt go to a doctor since i did not feel any pain or fulness at that time.. what should i do?

Temporary spikes can last for longer than three months. So you will need to wait, before you will know for sure.
Hi bill, third week with the loud apike or rather combination of hissing, sqeualing and buzzing is not going away. I started a 5 days ourse of prednisone 20mg plus off the clunter lipofavinoid (which i think is nothing more than a scam).. i am confused if the slap is supposed to do this much damage. Also i would want to share that recently i changed my job and i had a lot of anxiety issues. I remember that there was this squealing that i heard right after the slap but can it be the anxiety, stress that is prolonging it. I hope i didnt damage those freaking hair like nerves which dont repair themselves.. stressed and depressed.
