Think about that for a second. It's 2018, which means it's been 2018 years since the splitting of time in the Gregorian calendar. The earth has orbited the sun 2017 times since that splitting (Because there's no 0 A.D. So since the split; it's been:

63,658,828,800 seconds
1,060,980,480 minutes
17,683,008 hours
736,792 days
105,256 weeks
24,207 months

So why is there absolutely no treatment for tinnitus? I know it's hard but the fact is we haven't been really trying, as a research community until very recently. It's 2018 and the closest thing to a treatment is TRT, and of course, that isn't actually a treatment. If we were, I guarantee you that we would have at least a medicine that reduces noise or something. The fact that tinnitus treatments have literally never improved is embarrassing.

We've been busy building weapons and making money.

Yeah sounds about right. Although it sucks that we have the money to send soldiers to war and give them tinnitus, but none to fund any research to treat it.
And spending it on the most useless crap. The CI came out 5 years before I was born. That represents the last major advance in this field when it comes to available treatments. Since then nothing but... theories and talk.

The focus has actually been on increasing the number of tinnitus sufferers with stress, anxiety, ototoxic medications, new viruses and bacterial strains and noise of modern life and technology etc. They're getting really good at it.

I get why they really did not get it going the first few billion seconds, or so...
But in the last couple of billions, something really should have happened!

I´m not a religious person, but I´ve always seen time and coincidences, together, as a force.
Add research to that, it should have multiplied our chances for a cure.
I´m starting to lose faith in mother nature here, and it´s just the saddest thing.:(

Then I think of Frequency TX and their regeneration program and feel a bit better;)

There is some kind of treatment for almost everything, except T . Got to be a reason. With so many ppl getting it now, last few years. A cash cow, keep milking it. TRT, I guess. CBT I feel you can do on you own.

I'm going to be contraversal here but rather than "wait" for a cure that could still be years away, people need to empower themselves and take control of their T.

Why wait when there are loads of options? Too many people moan and do nothing for themselves

tinnitus caused by hearing loss (hair cell damage)
might really be able to be cured/reduced once Cochlear hair cell regeneration is available.

The brain will decrease central gain and hyper neuronal activity once the input is restored

Our slogan should read STOP the RACKET in your HEAD. also in small print it reads: stress, hearing loss, listening/playing music, certain meds is how it happens!!

I'm usually really friendly to this, but can you please shitpost on another thread? This isn't a shitpost thread.

Tinnitus does not cause hearing loss.

And this illustrates my previous post perfectly - why wait until cochlear hair cell regeneration? Do something now

he didn't say tinnitus caused hearing loss.

And this attitude is why we're stuck in this treatmentless rut. I honestly think this and overall apathy is the real problem here.

Hey guys, wonder why we don't have a treatment in 2018? Exhibit A.

I didn't say tinnitus causes hearing loss, I am saying if someone has tinnitus because of acoustic trauma or other disorders to the ear it is related to hearing loss.

The 1# cause of tinnitus is hearing loss, the other is neck/jaw musculoskeletal misalignment

Yeah, but sometimes you've tried all the options that are available to you and still can't go back to a normal life. Especially if there are other complicating factors like hyperacusis. Rant under spoiler
Sometimes I feel like some people don't believe the minority of tinnitus patients that can't cope exists and if it does exist you're either not part of it or you just need CBT/TRT to get back to a 'normal' life. Even the youtube comments under Gaby Olthuis' video are more understanding than some people with tinnitus. I read this on here recently: Some people would like to have a cure for tinnitus but others really need one - and I completely agree with that statement. I could live with my 7-9 different tones if my tinnitus was at least stable. I see other people saying how they do everything (concerts, cinema, clubs) and just wear hearing protection and they're fine - well, I tried that, didn't work out that well. (and yes, I was stupid) Just reading some of the patient stories and their experience with severe hyperacusis and tinnitus is so frustrating... Some of them tried TRT but it didn't help, some have had severe hyperacusis for years without any improvement! It's heartbreaking to read.

@threefirefour

I really don't agree with you about research being at "square one"
because of Susan Shore's device and Frequency therapeutics.

Sure. I guess you're right unless square 1 is a level of treatment. We're close, but we haven't entered the field of actually treating anything. Research wise we're much closer than we were 5 years ago, but we're not even on the field yet.

We should make it a personal mission to get a Frequency therapeutics represenitive or researchers like Charles Liberman and Roland Schaette on Tinnitus Talk.

They could contribute greatly to research threads.

That would be so awesome. We need to try to get some people on the inside

What causes tinnitus and hyperacusis type 1?
