In rodents, oxytocin acts directly on the auditory cortex (the most likely source of tinnitus) to change the activity patterns and strength of inhibition. So, it isn't out of the question that it could modulate tinnitus severity. I haven't read the clinical study you mention but just wanted to throw that out there.

The real question is whether oxytocin can permanently make the T disappear. While it's great that it may suppress tinnitus when you take it, I'd like any drug for the treatment of T to be temporary. By temporary I mean for it to be like antibiotics. Take them for a short course and bam, everything's all good again.

I think any drug with low side effects and can be tolerated long term that yields reduction in the symptoms would actually be a breakthrough in itself.

This magic pill is still far away...

If Oxytocin was like that, it would be known. But if it can give immediate and temporary relief without bad long term effects, that's great.

Isn't oxytocin a prescription drug? It is here in Sweden. The main use for it is for new mothers to help with the breastfeeding. There was also a swedish study on it for asperger/autism. Something about oxytocin helping them to "feel more". It comes in nasal spray but can also be administrated through injections at a hospital.

From the article:

""For some patients, tinnitus disappeared or reached a non-distress level," Azevedo said. "As usual in tinnitus treatment, in some patients the tinnitus kept low, and for some it raised after drug therapy ended.""

I'm not sure what they mean by "kept low" but it looks like they are meaning a lasting relief. Too small study to make any conclusions though.

Ok, but a start should not be published and journalists should not write about it as if it was serious.

People will try oxytocin alone now but they don't know what the side effects could be.

A start should be published. It results in attention from other outlets and may result in proper studies. People will try it, but anybody can also google the side effects and like anything "take at your own risk".

People still need a prescription though. The stuff people can buy on amazon etc isn't real oxytocin. It's just tap water sold by homeopaths.

I still don't like the way journalists write about it... Like if it was a breakthrough... But journalists, well !

I have only seen the opposite effect. For me my T spikes with an 'oxytocin overdose' and my ears feel full. I really wish it had the T calming effect. Perhaps it is just the spike in blood pressure from the pleasuring who really knows.

Maybe there is just another way to get high on oxytocin. Some supplement you can take? Giving birth?

Hello there.

Anyone knows where we can buy it in Europe?

It's a prescription drug given to new mothers to help with the breastfeeding. Some studies has shown that it helps people with autism/asperger's to be more social so maybe it's prescribed to them to. You could always show this article to a doctor and ask if he/she could prescribe it off-label I guess.
