So for the past few days, I've been intermittently hearing this DUNDUNDUNDUN sound in my right ear. Kinda sounds like there's either a motorcycle revving up outside of my house or the soundtrack to someone getting murdered is being played. I'm surprised that this is happening because I've been in relative silence since quarantine, but I do have a few theories:

1. neck tension [from sitting at my computer hunched over all day and half-heartedly doing pilates videos on youtube]
2. jaw pain [from chewing gum so i don't eat excessively out of boredom while stuck at home lol]
3. experimental headphones use [hanging my headphones around my ears and listening to music for maybe like 5 minutes every few days]
4. walking past a jackass with a leafblower whenever I leave my house to go for a walk

So yeah. Any thoughts? Does anyone else deal with low-level rumbles?

Hi,

I get this too. Does yours stop when someone is talking to you, then restart again a second after? If so, you may find listening to audiobooks helps distract from it.

Many people have also found the following helpful, played through a speaker with good bass ideally. Also if you have an Amazon Echo you can install the Sleep Sounds skill and say "Alexa, ask Sleep Sounds to play Airplane".

The above is the most effective masker for these sounds, but when you feel like a change, or if you have other frequencies you want masking too, here is my playlist of other useful sounds.

I have regular s****y tinnitus but I do have experience of temporary low level humming tinnitus too. For me vibration in my body causes it so it starts if I walk excessively or drive for a few hours, it gets worse and worse (over time) until I stop doing these activities as much and then the humming will eventually subside so I'm left with only my regular tinnitus.

Due to this I am limited to the kind of work I can do.

So maybe it's the chewing? Try to stop chewing for 5 days and see if that noise stops.

haven't really found that it stops when people talk to me, but that video of masking sounds is really useful. thanks!

sorry you deal with humming tinnitus too. I was honestly thinking that maybe it could be neck tension in that case because today I noticed it spiked as I was working out, which causes my muscles to tense/vibrate.

Well for me I don't get any vibration working out, as I don't run or walk during those activities. I notice that when I have earplugs in that I can hear my regular tinnitus noise vibrate with every step I take which means that all the inner ear and brain vibration sets off the humming.

Your neck tension should be different from vibration. My neck tension causes my tinnitus to have a more high pitched hiss and sitting with good posture and holding my head in the correct position eliminates that hissing noise immediately.

Also if you are stressed that could cause it but we all know that here :)
