Cause of Tinnitus
Syringing
First, if you google only for "Tinnex", you'll find this:
With TINNEX it is possible to abolish tinnitus without medication or side effects. Through a specially designed headset, pulsating magnetic filds support the sick cells energetically and subsequently regulate their control systems. Since magnetic fields are part of our environment, TINNEX can be considered a natural therapy approach which is based on biological mechanisms.
TINNEX is a home-therapy device for the treatment of both acute and chronic tinnitus. With TINNEX, anybody can treat their tinnitus condition themselves. TINNEX has shown in clinical studies that it can improve and/or completely abolish patients tinnitus conditions without any side effects.

And that's not what this discussion is about, maybe someone can create another discussion for that machine if they like. :)

Wikipedia's article on Caroverine is really short and doesn't even mention tinnitus directly:

Caroverine (Spasmium, Spadon) is a drug used as a spasmolytic and otoneuroprotective (inner ear protective) agent in some countries.[1] It acts as an N-type calcium channel blocker, competitive AMPA receptor antagonist, and non-competitive NMDA receptor antagonist.[1] It also has potent antioxidant effects.[1][2]

This discussion / change of emails is from the 1990s: http://stason.org/TULARC/health/body/tinnitus-ringing-ears/9-21-Treating-Tinnitus-caroverine.html

Caroverine itself is an old drug.
In one study, conducted in 1997, Caroverine reduced tinnitus symptoms for most patients 1. 63% of patients responded immediately with a significant reduction in sound levels. There were no significant side effects and mild side effects were transitory, typically disappearing in less than 24 hours.

There is a clinical trial going, currently recruiting participants: http://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT01174979

Anybody heard anything else about this? This is getting quite a buzz on tinnitus sites since as far as I know the drug was recently approved in India. But I haven't heard of anyone getting the treatment yet...

I will follow up in this thread if I myself find or hear more.

This is currently the second most viewed discussion on Tinnitus Talk.

Personally I haven't heard anything more about Caroverine/Tinnex than what I wrote in the first post of this thread.

I'll be looking forward to that clinical trial completing.

EDIT:
It seems the clinical trial has been suspended.

Hi Markku:
Can you tell me whether tinnex is useful to cure my tittitus?
I learn Tinnex is a something like an injection medicine. Is it safe?
It was invented by Lincoln pharmaceuticals Ltd in India.

I do not know whether it had worked in India patients.

I am hesitating.

Hello, Arnold
Tinnex (Caroverine) treatment is only available in India.
Lincoln Pharma, have launched it recently as an intravenous therapy, and then they top it up with a 20mg capsule of the drug Caroverine on a daily basis. Lincoln have an agreement with Phafag who made the drug in the first place. Its not a cure and I dont know how effective it is, however Lincoln claims its helped upto 61 percent of Tinnitus cases.

interesting that the suspended study was to have taken place in austria...and here is another study reported at NIH Pub Med that was completed in austria

"Caroverine in tinnitus treatment. A placebo-controlled blind study."

Denk DM, Heinzl H, Franz P, Ehrenberger K.

ENT Department, University of Vienna, Austria.
"Abstract

"This study was performed to examine whether a single infusion of caroverine, a quinoxaline-derivative, can be used successfully in the treatment of inner ear tinnitus. Microiontophoretical experiments in guinea-pigs have shown that caroverine acted as a potent competitive alpha-amino-3-hydroxy-5-methyl-4-isoxazone-proprionic acid (AMPA) receptor antagonist and, in higher dosages, a non-competitive N-methyl-d-aspartate (NMDA) antagonist. According to our working hypothesis of the pathophysiology of inner ear tinnitus (cochlear-synaptic tinnitus), these forms of tinnitus occur when the physiological activity of the NMDA and AMPA receptors at the subsynaptic membranes of inner hair cell afferents is disturbed. In total, 60 patients with inner ear tinnitus of assumed cochlear-synaptic pathophysiology were included in the study: after computerized randomization, 30 were treated with caroverine and 30 with placebo. For a response to have occurred, tinnitus had to show a reduction in both subjective rating and psychoacoustic measurement (tinnitus matching). In the caroverine group, 63.3% responded to therapy immediately after the infusion. In the placebo group, none of the patients treated showed a significant response according to the defined success criteria. The results confirm our working hypothesis on the genesis of cochlear-synaptic tinnitus."

i wonder why the other study was "suspended

and this stuff has been around for a long time and tried multiple times for treating tinnitus, on more than one occasion with significant reported success

it doesnt make sense that we have not heard more about this treatment if it is effective...im confused

Because Phag pharma did a deal with Lincoln pharma watch the video I posted above. Glutamine granules sit on top of the hearing receptors, the receptors miss fire due to disruption and this is tinnitus, however caroverine pushes out the granules allowing the receptors to be free again, tinnitus stops!! Wow Can this be real ??

yes many people are craving caroverine and the data suggests this treatment is very promising

here is a link that supports your advocacy for caroverine, (and i too am hopeful that this medication will live up to great promise thats indicated by all the excitement on the net)

http://clinicaltrialsfeeds.org/clinical-trials/show/NCT01174979

at the heading there is a statement that the trial was suspended...why...very...very.... strange , and with all the promising work out of austria etc, this seems very fishy

Joe,
did pfhag and lincoln pharma make an exclusive world wide distribution deal?

if not, then why wouldnt phfag want to go ahead test and market in other countries?

what you say may be true, and i hope it is but there are questions floating around out there

joe

what do these facebook comments mean ..whats the message we should be getting from reading the posts at the link you provided..i read them all and have my opinion but id like to reserve my judgement until i hear how you feel about it since you posted that link...what does it mean to you?

I called one of the mobile numbers and spoke to amit who is a doctor who has adminstered caroverine Iv, he claims it has a 60percent success rate in Cochlear synaptic Tinnitus, the infusion he says will give 6 months relief. I dont know what to make of it, my head is one jumble at the moment, hence thats why I posted what you u think?
Heres how its Administered http://www.tinnex.in/how-tinnex-is-administered.html

Did he give you any idea of how many times he personally has administered the treatment and the results of his efforts. It sounds like he is just quoting the stats given by a sales rep.
I will remain skeptical yet hopefull until I hear some testimonials from patients who who have had the treatment and are happy with the outcome.

Joe
what i make of it is there is much to be persuaded by and many questions still unanswered and like you, my mind is jumbled up over these questions because caroverine is in a class of drugs that should work, but so far i have not seen the testing and data and EU or Canadian or USA FDA type endorsements i would like

and im so puzzled by all of this cuase if caroverine works, its got to be a powerful money maker for docs and pharma given all of us who are in pain and willing to pay to make the pain stop or even just decrease measurably

i appreciate your research...lots of research...but im still only 50 50 on this at best

thanks

Guys, I have really dug deep if you go on the Facebook page there are testimonials that have been posted by Lincoln pharma, along with results and patients mobile and home numbers of some, data protection obviously doesnt exist for these patients. I haven't called any of the testimonials yet, but I think I should and speak to someone who has gone through with it. The genesis of Caroverine and how it targets glutamine granular deposits that are in limbo in the hearing receptors, this makes obvious sense as once these receptors have been cleared of glutamine deposits once caroverine antagonises they will stop misfiring resulting in possible elimination of Tinnitus. I would like to contact Dr Klaus Ehringberger as I have so many questions that for me would conclude if I should proceed personally with the infusion. The other point is Caroverine is available in Austria where I Believe Dr Ehrinberger resides, It would be beneficial if This treatment was available in Austria as its not as far to go. What do u think
