Cause of Tinnitus
after cold and ear syringing 20-30% of volume 06/2018
Hi,

I have tinnitus since I can remember never bother me at all, I could only ear it at night in my parents house, in the city I could not ear it, in fact I thought that it was normal and I was in silence

I'm 29... I develop wax blockage on my ears every year.

In my ignorance not wanting to go to the doctor so frequently I bought a syringe and been using that for the last 5 years...

All has been good until the last time, while syringing the left ear I got dizzy for 5 seconds and later noticed the tinnitus got worse.
I used olive oil for two days before doing the procedure...
Didn't worry much at the time... because I believe my tinnitus get a little worse every time I clean my ears even at the doctor and then goes back to normal after 1 or 2 days.

Turns out, it has been almost 4 weeks and my tinnitus is not getting better.... in fact I had one or two good days where it was almost gone (almost to the point pre cleaning ears) this week but yesterday returned back to the original point, probably because I'm leaving coffee.

Sometimes during the night I wake up without tinnitus...

I also feel some pressure in the ear which is alleviated by pushing air by the noose and block the noose, but then 1 day later the pressure returns.

What do you think about my situation? I need to put my laptop rain sound to be able to sleep.

Also does your tinnitus causes headache?

Sorry about my bad english,

Thanks.

Ear syringing is a no no. Microsuction is also a no no.

Reading other posts of tinnitus after this procedure I feel completely hopeless, seems like it's permanent for everyone.

My T got so much worse after ear syringing. I did the caloric test which is pretty much ear syringing, water irrigated into the ear and hitting the eardrum and coming back out. It caused me to have T on both ears, H on both ears, and a whole bunch of other problems. I also hear less on my left ear (Mild hearing loss)
Ear Syrining is very dangerous. If i were an audiologist or ENT or whatever I would never do it, especially on somewone who has T.

Are there alternatives to this procedure?

should I do something or just give it time to heal?

@dm222
In the majority of cases, ear syringing /irrigation and microsuction are safe providing ear drops are administered three times a day to each ear for 7 to 10 days before earwax is removed. Even if earwax is manually removed using a curette, problems can occur if the wax is not softened as mentioned above. If earwax doesn't exist the ear normally it can become impacted and problems will result:

Ear pain
Tinnitus
Infection
Fever
Impaired hearing
Coughing
Dizziness

I have severe chronic tinnitus. I have had ear irrigation three times and microsuction the same without problems.

You are entitled to your opinion @dpdx . With respect, I regard it as scaremongering and sending out the wrong information. Ear irrigation to give it it's proper name, microscution and the caloric test are not dangerous. With any medical procedure, no matter how small there is an element of risk involved. However, I believe it is wrong to say these procedures are dangerous even for someone with tinnitus.

The ear is a very delicate organ and you shouldn't have syringed your ears yourself. Such a procedure should be done by a healthcare professional. If I were you, I would ask my doctor to refer me to ENT so tests can be carried out on your ears and auditory system. I don't advise you to try any self help. By this I mean applying anything into your ears unless advised by your doctor. Try using sound enrichment to help takeaway your attention from the tinnitus. Please click on the links below and read my posts.

Hope things improve for you soon.
All the best
Michael

PS: Tinnitus can cause headaches.

I think they are. Look at me I did the caloric test and now I have a second acoustic trauma and hearing loss. There are users on this forum who have done these tests and thus have exacerbated their symptoms. Things are not supposed to go into our ears.

Could it be that my eardum brusted? Or would I notice that if it happen?

I have no pain.

I have no pain.

I think you would have noticed it. I am no ear expert.

also I feel like I have wax inside the ear while chewing but I think I don't... (I already had this before but I think now intensified).

also I'm leaving coffe... because as I took cooffe only on working days, my weekends were like hell...

never thought I was so addicted, today I am completly sick because I didn't took cooffe...

I bought this but the only sound I like to sleep is rain.

It has like 6 rain songa but all of them are a 3 seconds sound repeating ...

Returning itx any device that you know with rain soumf that is not repetitive?

When did you get your ears syringed?

That is not a good idea. I did the caloric test with water this is to test the vestibular system, water is irrigated into the ear and hits the eardrum and comes back out causing you to be dizzy.
Before doing this test I had no hearing loss, no H, no ear fullness, no T or h on my healthy ear (right), no ear popping/cracking, no whooshing sounds, etc and now I do.

I also sometimes experience complete deafness in the L ear.

Hi dpdx for some reason I cant send you private messages.

I wish your tinnitus improve, have some hope!

I also have some hope mine improves...

But it has been hard the last few days, when I'm starting to realize it could be permanent.

Me too I am scared. I had H since January and it is not getting better, screeching tinnitus. I was much better during my onset than now. I am not kidding you.

I dont know why..hold on.

@dm22 When i first got tinnitus on Sep 23 i couldn't sleep for three nights, eventually Tinnitus lowered from Severe to Moderate and by the third week it went to mild, then weeks following it dropped to very mild. I had no H initially, but got H when i overprotected my ear, that went away in three weeks. My ENT wanted me to do a CT, MRI, Ecog, Vemp, Caloric, Tympanometry, Acoustic Reflex, etc. She didnt believe me when I said loud sound caused tinnitus. I had tinnitus only the left ear which for some reason audiologists/ent had a hard time believing that it was caused by loud noise, so they recommended that I do all of those tests. I had no stress or anxiety until December. My hearing was normal.
After the caloric test my hearing dropped (hearing loss) got T on both ears, H on both ears, ear fullness, ear cracking, etc. This was on January 17 a day after caloric test and I still haven't gotten better. I am starting to loose hope.

i think I dont have that

what I noticed is that tinnitus changed my personality a lot, some for the better, some for worse...

For example I started being less overthinking about the little things in life because I save that for overthink about the tinnitus...
Sometimes I'm extra impulsive, even more than before :(

Some days I only hear it at the night other days I hear it all day, but goes less noticeable during the day.

I can straight up tell you it worsened me. Especially since the caloric test. I lost interest in things I loved, quit my job, dont go outside quite often. It ruined me permanently, oh how I would love to have my old life back just for 20 years or so.

Well my job actually helps me not to focus so much in the tinnitus, going outside is the same thing, when I'm at home it's like hell
don't stay at home unless you have to.

I am scared of causing more hearing loss. I already have mild and perhaps moderate dont want to make it worse.
