Hi, my name is Magnus, I'm 15 years old and I am new to this page.... (I'm swedish and english is my second language, so excuse my grammar)

2 weeks ago I got a loud ringing in my ears (super high pitched) and I don't know why. I know I have had a very light ringing in my ears all my life but not this loud. I listen to a lot of music, but never loud. I go to a music school and play bass in band almost every day, but i have always been using earplugs and been super careful with sounds, so i dont think the ringing has to do with that.

On the Friday morning 2 weeks ago i was out on my bike and when I came home I felt a pain in my ears and that my ears where itching a lot, on the evening my ears where ringing super loud and it was really annoying.

Later that evening I became super scared that I had damaged my ears, so I made a sound test on youtube (which was a bad idea). After the test my ringing became worse and I became even more scared.

After that I was super sensitive of sounds and became super anxious.

Now 2 weeks later the ringing is still there but it is more quiet, but it is still super annoying. The sensitivity of sounds went away pretty quick but I still try to avoid loud noises. My ears are still super itchy and I sometimes get intense pain for a few minutes. Something that helps me is to massage my ears every morning and evening and taking cold showers.

Do you think that the ringing will return to the state where it was before, and if so, how long does it usually take?

Nobody can tell you, but I suggest you go see a doctor to have your hearing checked.

I listen to alot of music, but never loud

Hi @m4gnus,

I'm sorry to hear about your situation, especially since you've been so diligent about protecting your ears as well as you can. I'd be cautious about trying some antihistamines, as they are all (as far as I know), anticholinergic. As such, one of the side effects of anticholinergic drugs is tinnitus. So just wanted you to be aware of that.

It sounds like you may have some kind of underlying condition that preceded your latest experience with much louder ringing. Since there's so many possible causes, I'd advise putting on your "investigator's had", and see if you can track it down. Do you have any neck problems? If so, it could be coming from your neck. Click HERE to learn more about how to discern that.

The itching could be a sign of some kind of infection. But if it is, be careful about taking antibiotics, as they can also cause tinnitus. It could be coming from you TMJ. Just lots of possibilities. Currently, my favorite people I turn to online are Jay Hobbs and Julian Cowan Hill. I'm sure there's others, but just researching what they have to say would be a good starting point for you.

The fact that the ringing subsided seems to be a very good sign. I think it's also greatly in your favor that you're so young. Good luck in tracking this down for yourself. I think the more you can stay calm as you research, the better your chances are for a good outcome.

All the Best!
