Tinnitus Much Worse After a Total Hysterectomy

I like the way you don’t mask, around the home. I have radio on low, but I read and work from home. I’ve just started going back into work only for a couple of sessions this week.

I’m still taking it steady.

How are you managing?

My hearing test was fine, only very slight loss.
Good for my age x

 

Well if your hearing loss is minimal, especially if they tested to 16 kHz, you should be in a position to improve. I’m not doing well at all... I had a very nice improvement at month 5 but that only lasted 10 days before a bang outside destroying my life, apparently forever since it’s been 14 months since that.

So I suggest having something on the ears outside...

I wonder if your becoming extremely anxious during this difficult period may have exacerbated your tinnitus? A build up of anxiety and stress can cause considerable over-arousal to one's whole nervous system.

 

I am in a similar boat to you. Was wondering how you are getting on now?

Perimenopause joined me in 2020. It might have been what caused a relapse in my tinnitus.

Since October 2021, I've experienced a further relapse. My progesterone has bottomed out. The naturopath suggested we try herbs to either modulate estrogen or increase progesterone. I have read conflicting reports about hormone replacement. I am tempted to go with Vitex since I have taken it before. I can't seem to habituate. I am hoping if I can get to a better place hormonally, decrease my anxiety and improve my sleep, that I can somehow 'not care' about my tinnitus.

This is so upsetting to me because last year I reached a point where I could sit in a very quiet room all day if I wanted, and simply not notice the tinnitus or be bothered by it if I did hear it. I just pray that I can get back on the horse.

I believe that I was so lucky for the past 27 years as I had habituated to tinnitus and got on with my life. But a month after my op it magnified.

However, like you, I struggled for a year with pain before my operation total hysterectomy. I’m 57 now and always fit and loved walking.

Do you also have hypercusis? I had never experienced this until after my operation.

I am on hormone patches but I’m not sure these are helping as I still get so tearful, and the anxiety has taken a while to settle after my operation. I can feel overwhelmed but I thought it was my hyperacusis and tinnitus, but now I think it’s a combination of surgery, hormones and everything. It has settled slowly and it’s better than it was.

I truly believe your tinnitus will settle in time as your hormones settle.

And, like me, your tinnitus will fade into the background.

Hi. I just found date of your post . I'm 11 years older than you. As a woman I feel like having the hysterectomy totally stressed you out along with the pain and everything you're experiencing. For me, stress /anxiety has gotten worse in the last couple of years and so has the tinnitus. I'm isolating a lot.

Hello @Flowergirl, yes, it’s been an awful two years, but I’ve got better... slowly.

The tinnitus is still there but the hyperacusis has been improving slowly.... This definitely takes time...

I hope yours settles soon.

Do you have hyperacusis as well?

Which hormones are you on? Dose?

I’ve had tinnitus for 27 years but was habituated.

12 months ago my tinnitus worsened and hyperacusis started after surgery.

My tinnitus is mostly in my ears, mainly in my right ear.

When it started years ago it felt like it was in the back of my head.

I’m on Evorel 50 mg patches.

In-ear sound generators are really good and I find them soothing. I also have regular counselling. I can’t believe it’s a year since all this started...

I feel like I've been called from my crypt, lol. I sometimes stay away from Tinnitus Talk because it can make you feel worse.

I'm doing great, thank you! Nothing is linear. I've had lots of counseling, TRT, and support from positive people. I'm doing much better now.

I'm not perfect, and I still struggle, but I know my boundaries. I'm working, and I've started my own business.
