Cause of Tinnitus
Vaccin or Covid infection
I'm 36, from Mauritius, a father of a 2-year-old baby. My tinnitus started 3 days ago as follows:

I had my first dose of Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine on 20 August 2021. I had some side effects that caused a little burning at the back of my head that lasted 2 weeks on and off.

After that my wife tested +ve for COVID-19 and I tested positive after 11 days (16 September 2021) with a runny nose and a light cough. The light cough healed in 2 days and the runny nose in 4 days. But my head still felt heavy.

On the 5th day (21 September 2021) I was surfing on my computer when suddenly I noticed the sound change in my right ear. The environment sound became somewhat compressed with a buzzing (like old CRT television's screen humming sound).

It's been 3 days now since it started and sometimes it is louder and sometimes manageable.

Please help. I could not even contact an ENT specialist as per COVID-19 rules you have to wait 10 days in isolation.

That must be very bothersome sir. Remember that it is early days. 5 days is longer than tinnitus ought to last from a circumstance like a concert, but the odds are still in your favor. Best thing to do right now is read about people's experiences on this site extensively (I've never heard about the Sinopharm vax but I imagine the problems are similar in cause).

In the meantime, stock up on some of the supplements recommended on this site. My first picks are Turmeric to take down inflammation and B-complex to promote nervous system health.

Feel free to see a doctor in maybe urgent care (if you have that in Mauritius).

I'm sure other people will have good insight my friend. The key is to stay calm, positivity about recovery (at this point in time) will help a lot. Anxiety not only causes tinnitus but can spike it considerably.

@Toney ... Thank you. I took the turmeric in milk today. An ENT specialist informed me that it could be because of the heavy thick runny nose I got during COVID-19 infection that has blocked the ear canal. He asked me to take the following medicines:

1. Chymoral Forte 2 morning and 2 evening before eating.
2. Bactoxime DT x 1 tab twice a day after eating.
3. Logicin Nasal Spray 3 times daily.
4. I've started drinking Turmeric milk as you recommended.
5. I also took 1 tab Lexotanil (Bromazepam) 1.5 to help with stress.

Frankly I pray this sound goes away from my head. I'm daddy of a nearly 2-month-old baby girl and soon going to be father of another baby. I want to raise my kids without this handicap in my head. I want to study more at the University too. Today is the 4th day and from time to time I have panicked and felt frightened too.

He noticed the tinnitus after 5 days as I understood it, not it having a 5 day duration. Also the mechanism is not necessarily the same for noise and COVID-19 induced tinnitus. The odds are therefore possible better for @Nitish than first thought.

I agree on the Curcumin/Turmeric, maybe take NAC also + Magnesium.

EDIT: Check with the doctor if NAC can be used with all the medication already prescribed.

Today it's been 5 days since my tinnitus began.

Can anyone confirm me if tinnitus after the COVID-19 vaccine or COVID-19 infection usually goes away after some time?

I'm really anxious. I want to be in good mental health to raise my kids well. I've got a 2-year-old little girl and another one coming soon. This thing is going EEEE in my head. Sometimes it's loud but when I talk it is masked. When I go in the open air it is 80% masked with nature sounds. But once inside the house, I hear it and when going to sleep I hear it louder.

It's early I know but please can you give me more advice on how to treat tinnitus post COVID-19 vaccine/infection?

There are great chances that your tinnitus will subside. Physicians consider three months as chronic tinnitus.

Do you suspect you got tinnitus due to the COVID-19 vaccine or the COVID-19 infection?

Did your wife have the COVID-19 vaccination, before or after the infection? If she has different symptoms and has not taken the vaccine, then chances are that your tinnitus is caused by the vaccine.

Any update on you Nitish?
It has already been 3 and a half months now. The tinnitus has not gone away completely. Some days it's on a level of 1/10 and on some days on a level of 0/10. But then it comes back on a level 4/10 for 2-3 days and subsides again.

This is what I've been taking last 2 months:

- Venlor 37.5 mg
- B complex
- Neurorubine forte (the B6 and B12 in my B complex is not enough so I take a tab of this as it contains 1000 ug of B12)
- D3
- Zinc 44 mg
- Magnesium 300 mg
- Lexotanil 3 mg

It varies, in a week I can get 3.5 days of silence and 3.5 days of average to low tinnitus.

Hello, thanks for the information, very useful.

Has your tinnitus improved?

Mine has definitely improved since it started 2 years ago (probably after COVID-19 infection or abrupt benzo withdrawal). However, I still have these cycles of good days and bad days. At the beginning it was just bad days.

Hi Nitish, I hope you're doing better. I'm wondering how long it took for your tinnitus to lessen in volume since infection? I had a Pfizer vax in October, which spiked existing tinnitus, and then COVID-19 infection in January, which brought it up some more, and it just hasn't gone down at all, I'm very worried because it is very intrusive at this volume.

Wondering if there is any hope for this to lessen. Thanks so much. :)
