Hi guys,
So I've been suffering with tinnitus for the last 9-10 months, the beginning wasn't really too hard as the noise was quite low and I could only hear it in quiet rooms. As the months went on, it got a little louder and a little harder to manage, BUT, I slept like a baby all the time, give or take a few days here and there. I found the ability to sleep gave me that extra bit of willpower to deal with the tinnitus during the day, and it wasn't really really loud tinnitus. It was manageable. However, ever since I went out to a party at the weekend (I forgot to bring my earplugs, stupid I know!), I drank a lot, and my tinnitus has spiked big time. One night in the past couple of weeks, I heard a beeping, morse-code tone which freaked the hell out of me! Anyway, the tinnitus kind of came down. It was up and down in terms of volume. By the way, my tinnitus has always been like this. I might hear it really loud for a couple of weeks, and then really low for a week or even a few days.
Ever since the spike since the party I decided I would try acupuncture. First session was ok, didn't affect the volume of my tinnitus but it relaxed me so I was happy with that. However, the second session sent my tinnitus through the roof, and made it 100 times worse. It's extremely loud in my right ear (previously I could only hear static, hissing in that ear). It was so loud it kept me awake the whole night. Usually when I lie down too, my tinnitus quietens a little (so I've had an easy-ish ride in comparison to some of the stories I read online).
The tinnitus is still really loud, I mean I only had the acupuncture yesterday. But my question, can acupuncture actually make your tinnitus worse? My acupuncturist said 'sometimes it has to get worse before it can get better...', I'm not sure if I would agree with that... I am just hoping and praying this spike will lessen and I am not left with this terrible loud pitch in my right ear for good, as I feel I was managing really well and I was just at the beginning of the Habituation process. If this keeps up, I won't be able to sleep. If I can't sleep, I will lose my mind. I even tried to mask last night with the 'Relax Melodies' app and the sound further aggravated my tinnitus! It's like there is no way out! And no help! The only help I knew if I couldn't sleep was masking, now that's gone out the window, I am freaking out.
If anybody has any advice, I would really appreciate it. This forum has been a god-send by the way. I would have been lost this last 9-10 months with its support.

I am also having one for the last 10 days but I know it is going to fade away. There is no choice, you just have to put up with it and stay as calm as you can. Just like you, I can't sleep with any kind of sounds playing. It aggravates me even more. But I found a great solution: I take 5-6 drops of CBD oil right before I go to bed and it really helps me sleep. My tinnitus gets a bit worse when I lay down. It starts as a morse code and then it metamorphoses into a loud fax machine with a touch of hissing and a raging tea pot in the background. It is hard not to focus on it, but then after 15-20 minutes the CBD enters the show on and it knocks me off to sleep.

. Having trouble sleeping again too. Well I certainly enjoyed my week of 'silence' so at least I have that to reflect on...
