Tinnitus Week 2018 / Day 5: What Makes Your Tinnitus Worse?

Anything that messes with my ear pressure: car rides (live in the mountains), showers, so on. PMS, lack of sleep, neck aches/neck pains, and my TMJ/TMD.

Though even if I keep all that happy it likes to go cray-cray in volume for anything.

Humm...

Stress in different life situations.
Anxiety associated with dealing with the above.
Lack of sleep a result of both of the above.

Chronic pain issues

Not so much food related tinnitus increases though. But I do remember way back when I first started tinnitus, eating bacon and thinking it increased the sound level. So I didn't eat bacon for a long time. Now, once in a while I crave a good BLT and indulge. I don't really notice an increase now. Maybe I lost that "fear" thing.

The crunching sound of plastic bags when someone else is crunching them.

And last but not least - certain people.

Noise (moderate-loud), moderate noise creates 5 day spikes, loud noises spikes 1-2 weeks

Tension in my neck - or jaw muscles seems to spike my T. Sometimes alcohol spikes it for a day too but mostly I can't seem to figure out why my T is spiking. It seems pretty random most of the time.

Stress, foods high in sodium also knowing TRT is valued more then actual research for a cure.

Tomato sauce, diet soda, salt, treadmill. I don't eat sugar or white flour so I couldn't comment on those. I haven't figured out what exercise I can safely do besides gentle walking in the sun.

Loud noises, alcohol, lack of sleep, exercising, whenever I feel dizzy it goes through the roof, when I have a headache, taking a nap, bad diet / too much salt, due to my hyperacusis talking with other people also makes it worse, whenever I'm stressed I clench my jaw subconsciously (or during finals I'd be studying for hours while hunching over, having really posture) so I don't know if it's the stress hormone making it worse or due to my jaw/posture whenever I'm stressed, moving my jaw, if I shake my had from left to right pretty quickly I'll get fleeting tinnitus for a couple of seconds and my usual tinnitus spikes

From what I'm reading on your posts, everything I do is making it worse! Lack of sleep, too much caffeine, sugar, salty chips, grinding my teeth, & finally falling asleep in my big chair which bends my neck all wrong!
Loud sounds are amplified & echo in my head, so it's a never-ending cycle.

I can't figure it and problem solving is generally my strength.
Lack of sleep probably biggest root cause and/or stress but to share a bit more for me...

Wednesday, I had a rare low T day...about 2 out of 10 after a few days in a row of moderate T. Thursday about 3 out of 10. Friday about 4 out of 10 and this morning I woke up to a solid 5 out of 10. My diet, exercise, sleep, stress levels...low stress week, exercise levels has been the same throughout the week. There is some change to my physiology that changes the volume of my tinnitus I can not identify. I have tried to figure it out. Has to be some like of change in pressure in my head. My T seems highest after I sleep. But there is no explanation for every once in a while my T going down to a virtual benign level...or conversely, my T increasing in volume to the point of surprise. What the heck I ask myself? What causes this? I don't even react very much to my T going up which I suppose is by definition habituation. I accept it. I notice it. I ask why. I begrudgingly accept it and carry on with my life. But no idea why it goes up and down like a yo yo and so always read threads like this with interest. But I never glean any cause that I can apply to my lifestyle to consistently lower my T...or sustain it to a low level it naturally arrives at rarely only to escalate again. My T spends more time lately loud-ish than less obtrusive aka softer. There must be a reason the aberrant neurons are firing either in greater number or more excited...an underlying mechanism causing it. I am capable of low T but spend too much at more bothersome T. But perhaps too complex to identify why. Like an autoimmune response. Why do people have arthritis or skin flair ups? Allergic to life which I so love. Had a life time of no tinnitus only to contract it later in life. Complexity of the human body we can't seem to figure out.
