I would like to ask all tinnitus sufferers who have undergone a Tooth Extraction and a following implant what has been your experience?

I am between a root canal or a tooth extraction + implant, I have already 2 root canals in this teeth and a very good dentist told me the best thing to do in the long term is to have my tooth extracted as it is currently really bad and with a root canal it will last 5 years more.

I really prefer to have the tooth extracted, but the implant is what scares me the most. It is the second molar in the down side. So because of the drilling of the implant I am thinking to let him know that I prefer a root canal.

Dentist is really professional and I am afraid that letting him know I want a root canal will make him upset.

So, what do you think of implants and tooth extractions for tinnitus? Thanks a lot!

It is supposed to be a noisy procedure. I would rather walk around with a gap than risk getting a permanent spike.

I would ask the dentist which is going to be the less noisy. I doubt what you said would be very noisy anyway, but tell him you have Tinnitus and you're worried about the noise. I ask my dentist to not use the suction thing when I get checkups as its super noisy and I hate it.

Both the root canal and the implant are very noisy procedures. I am not sure why people who have had those procedures done are not posting here. However, if you search this forum you will find many people saying that these procedures involve a lot of noise for a long period of time.

I am afraid of scaring people from getting proper dental care. My message in other threads has been to save a tooth whenever possible. But you must interview and discuss and find the right dental professional. Never settle for less.
I did not know better back in 2002.

Regarding the dental implant I have posted a few times in other threads. Again, not wanting to scare people but inform them about what can go wrong and the unreported failed implants the specialists do not tell patients about.
In some cases implants are successful for a while but not for long term like over five years. This is especially true when the implant is a back molar rather than a front visible tooth.

The problem they don't tell you is that over time your natural teeth always shift but the implant does not. So the pressure from the shifting teeth move the implant in the bone and loosen it. An implant cannot be simply pulled like a regular tooth. It requires general surgery in many cases to chisel it from the surrounding jaw bone.

It is quite the choice to make. But you have to be informed.

The bridge procedure has a good rate of success even though the specialist must use two good teeth to attach the bridge.

I myself have big decisions to also make. Sigh.

Really, you can't imagine how much help people bring with their experiences. I understand all that you say.

One question, a bridge implies a lot of drilling ? The best would be to have the tooth extracted and live with the gap, but i know that is not an option as can mess with jaw.

I have had a root canal done last year and I told them I had TMJ and T issues and they did the procedure in 3 stages so that I wouldn't be exposed to loud noise or have my mouth open too long.

Sigh...this is what I have chosen for now Amv. I had to have my implant taken out and the gap is in the back and not visible. It has been this way for about a year now. My teeth so far have not moved. What I was told was that a possibility would be to have mouth guard made to wear at night to help prevent movement.

I know this isn't a popular choice but it was the one I had to make at that time. I knew others who decided on the back gap issue and they didn't have problems either.

My other issue is the root canal from hell was also extracted last year so that is another gap on the other side on the bottom back. I have no idea what I should do. Because of the damage from the root canal in 2002 the specialist said he didn't think a bridge would be possible. But I also have issues with the implant.

This issue is my worst nightmare tinnitus wise. But we have to make choices on the best possible procedure.

I can take the drilling with help from a valium that the dentist suggested. It really did help keep me relaxed but not all wigged out.

It is a hard choice and I really don't want my experiences to scare you at all.

Sigh I hate teeth issues.....

@Starthrower we are two on the same side ! I agree that for T sufferers, dental issues are a big question mark. Probably it's our own experience which can help us the most lacking so much information. Amazing in 2018 there are so many things unknown regarding dental procedures.

I will start considering living with a gap, i believe it's the best thing to do, mainly if you say that a mouth guard can help at night, another option is to have a new root canal as @Carlos1 suggests in various procedures.

Did the tooth extraction affected your T whatsoever ?

@Starthrower why not keep living with the gap on your root canal teeth ? I am sure it is probably the best thing to do if you keep a good mouth hygiene

I know one person whose implants lasted for well over 10 years. But unfortunately many of those implants eventually did fail...

@Amv With an implant the only thing that can cause a problem is when they place the stem into new bone growth. Since you aren't having a front lower implant placed as I did, you should be fine. I had too much pressure placed to my jaw and that caused whiplash to my c spine. Notice my cause of tinnitus.

Hello all ! I finally talked to my dentist and I am going to have a new root canal , divided in two sessions for the sound, he told me they will use very silent drills, so everything should be fine, I will let you know how everything works!

I am taking an antibiotic called Cefaclor , very friendly for the ears, no problems about my T, in case you guys one day want an alternative to Amoxicilin.

Hello Bill and all! I just came from the dentist, they will do my endo in 2 sessions, one today and one next friday. The dentist was expensive, but I think it was worthable. He was extremely attentive. He drilled for 5-6 seconds at the most, most work has done by hand and the drill was very silent (he told me they don't use noisy ones).

Maybe the problem was his assistant had the suction all time and near my ear without tinnitus, it was a bit noisy, i don't know if too much for making any damage. The whole procedure lasted 30 minutes at most.

Maybe the learning from today is go to a good dentist, pay him well, and demand him to use low noise drills and space between drillings.

May I ask you to please find out what type of a drill this was? If it was a laser drill, it would have been making clicking noises. If it is just making regular drill noises, could you ask them whether it was an electric-powered drill? Knowing the maker name and the brand of the drill would also help (as it sounds like being exposed to that drill noise hasn't felt traumatic to you, and many of us here are hoping to avoid being traumatized).

Hello Bill, yes ! Count on that, it was a regular drill, but the doctor told me they have very silent ones, indeed I can tell they were very silent. And they only drilled for 5 or 6 seconds at a time and very low time. I was more concerned for the suction than the drill.

Next week I have the next appointment and i will ask for it for sure. I'll let you know all my progress this next days, but certainly the best is to save some money and pay a good dentist to make this procedures.

It is the second time it has happened for me, once with calcium hydroxide and now again (i have asked for the material). As a result my T is higher, I know once the sealing is gone T spike goes away, but any good temporary sealling without this effect?

Hello all! My dentist just wrote me, the material is a green tea extract and a tree extract also. I now understand my T increase and my anxiety, as I am very sensitive to teine.

I believe I can wait like this for 5 days until my final root canal work. What are your thoughts ?

I decided not to go the implant route and leave the missing molar area alone. So far no issues at all.

The missing molar cannot be seen when I smile or anything because it is so far back.

I could not have a bridge due to damage to my jaw bone back in 2002 which started this journey of hell.

I have the exact same situation described here where my molar tooth will be removed, and replaced with an implant. I've had two root canals on this tooth and multiple crowns. Despite having had the crowns, the gum area around that tooth was always sensitive and I experienced frequent bleeding. So I usually tried to chew on the other side. My last crown broke almost a year ago, partially, and my dentist said it is okay to have a partial crown for a while. I also needed to do a gum surgery around that tooth to bring down the gums a bit, so that the crown can stay put. Anyway, my tooth now has an infection, and my dentist said the best thing to do now is to get an implant which has a 99% success rate.

Anyone had bad experiences with a implant, especially for a molar tooth? Any impact on the tinnitus?
