Cause of Tinnitus
Unknown, Satan perhaps?
Hey all so I have been taking Turmeric capsules with curcumin for 2 weeks now and have noticed a lowering of tinnitus, I stopped taking them for 2 days and noticed a spike so began taking them again and it seems to not be a placebo, will keep everyone posted.

I plan on introducing Ginger Root pills into my diet next week... As I believe my tinnitus is a result of some type of inflammation that is going on in my body since I had Meningitis when it started so I am working towards all things anti inflammatory.

Interesting as I have a post already on this matter.

@Danny Boy it must really be doing something because I've noticed a difference for sure since I've started taking it prior to using it my tinnitus was roaring now I honestly go most of the day without noticing it except when I'm finally home and I sit down and I start paying attention to it I hear it but other than that it's been much lower and less Intrusive and I know they say that most people that suffer from it it tends to feed after 2 to 3 months and yesterday marks exactly 3 months since I've had it so I don't know if it's just naturally going away or if the Turmeric is really doing something either way I'm pleased and will continue with the Turmeric!

I've been taking circumin (95% circuminoid extract) for a while now, I take it for gut health and as an anti-inflammatory. I weigh out 1000 milligrams of powder on a digital scale, then combine with 10mg of piperine (black pepper extract that works synergistically with circumin, increasing it's bioavailability by 2000%), I then mix the two in a glass of water.

I can't say I've noticed difference in volume, if your T is a result of hearing damage/loss, I don't see circumin as being beneficial. Regarding ginger root extract, in lower doses I've haven't observed any changes to T, in higher doses, it's actually spiked T a little bit. NMDA inhibitors though, such as magnesium for example, have given me a slight reductions.

Nice to hear turmeric helps for you. I have been taking large amounts of Curcuma Longa powder (which is cheap) with milk and swallowing some black pepper grains with it (to increase absorption). In total I have gone through about 600grams of it (milk honey and curcuma tastes fine to me so this one is easy).

Also I have not noticed any shifts in tinnitus volume, up or down, while taking it..
I'm wondering if taking curcuma (turmeric) extract powder would make any difference?

I was also taking curcumin and ginger and they only helped with hyperacusis... My tinnitus was spiked a little bit. So, unfortunately, these things don't work for noise induced tinnitus.... Only inflammations....

I love the experimental spirit of the tinnitus community. I will have to add curcumin to the potpourri I am experimenting with.

Will add it to the CBD I am trying in a week or two. I will have to research conflicts between the two.

I've been taking 1000mg of curcumin extract daily for 3 weeks now and I think it really helps! I didn't have a single spike like I usually do, and what's even better, my jaw and neck stopped hurting (and they were hurting almost all the time). I also didn't have a migraine until yesterday which is a huge thing since I usually have it twice a week. I also take lion's mane mushroom pills.
I don't know if this is a coincidence but I really don't care, I'll just keep on taking my turmeric pills :)

@binsonica im happy it's working for you as well!!! Mine is still at a lower level not gone but MUCH MORE tolerable than it was before I started the Tumeric w/ curcumin! I have one pill left I am going to buy more tomorrow for sure!!! I barely notice my T when I'm busy now which was impossible a month ago, nothing could take my mind off of it, I'm watching tv right now so of course I hear it but God I am so happy it's lower and Pray it will eventually go away! I also noticed I don't have any real spikes anymore as well, I went to a really noisy restaurant (Texas Roadhouse) on Saturday we were right by the bar and the music was around 87db and I didn't have a spike at all when we left, my 1 year old busted his lip yesterday and was SCREAMING in my ear for almost 20 min and no spike! I hope this progress holds up and for you as well! ❤️

@Dginobile It's been awhile since this post. Just curious as to an update on your T situation. Any better? and are you still taking the Turmeric?

@Nitro192 hey I've been really good barely hear my Tinnitus these days, I incorporated fish oil into my routine as well. The only time I notice my tinnitus is around my menstrual cycle sorry TMI lol but other than that I never hear it during the day only in a quiet room or at night when I lay my head to my pillow ear down :)

Are turmeric capsules different from ground turmeric - the spice for pickle making? It dissolves in warm water. I'm now trying a tablespoon or so with apple cider vinegar in warm water. I noticed right away, tingling inside my ears.

I've just awoken to a significant reduction in tinnitus. It could be a coincidence or one of those good days, but it doesn't seem that way because the sound is different, sort of more like crickets. I thought I would share in case it is a solution. I couldn't believe it this morning. It's not silent but it is not the shrill sound that seriously drives me out of my skull.

So, to document what I've done most recently including my last post:
  1. Apple cider vinegar, turmeric and water before going to bed (ACV I think is most significant reason)
  2. Took a forgotten B12 pill after missing 2 days.
  3. Took a B-12 supplements daily last week except last 2 days. (100 mcg 4 days and 1 d. 200 mcg.)
  4. stopped using milk
  5. careful to avoid all foods/condiments containing xanthan gum
No. 5 was due to a gut issue --unknowingly consuming xanthan gum in a fast food milkshake. I have Celiac disease and xanthan gum used as a thickener causes me a severe reaction. This time it lasted nearly two weeks. No. 3--B12 helps relieve effects of xanthan gum. No.4- since dx'd as Celiac I've had on and off again reactions to milk. Now it gives me predictable asthma even with powdered milk or evaporated that I'd been able to tolerate.

As far as the brand of ACV- it was store brand, regular vinegar. The turmeric was from a large jar of spice I had on hand for making pickles.

Started taking this about a month ago due to its reported neurogenesis capabilities.

No noticeable difference in T so far

I have tinnitus from a misaligned jaw and neck for 1 year now. I've tried other supplements and none have worked.... My tinnitus goes up with outside sound, if I sit in a silent room the tinnitus is low. If the TV is on the tinnitus goes up... Also I have neck pain.

Please help me pick the right kind of Turmeric I should try.

@Mathew Gould hey I believe Turmeric may have helped my Tinnitus because it may have been caused by overall inflammation from Meningitis that I had back in December.

I stopped the Tumeric and began taking fish oil only because the Turmeric was becoming expensive but I was talking my local vitamin shoppe store brand as the same with the Fish Oil.

I actually like the fish oil more because it seems to have a positive affect on my mood as well, I believe any brand would suffice if your cause is inflammation.

My Tinnitus is still present if I focus on it or am in a silent room which I try to avoid.

I hope you get some relief mine used to go up when I watched TV as well but that stopped a couple months ago. And really my best advice which I've seen given on here before but thought it was ridiculous at the time is to not focus on the Tinnitus I used to be like "yea ok" but it really is mind over matter and I had EXTREMELY intense intrusive Tinnitus and I honestly believe if I sit and focus on it, it will return back to that.

I have been staying busy and much as I can and usually can go all day without noticing it but as soon as I settle down there it is.

Best of luck to you XOXO

Thanks, my tinnitus is from a neck and jaw misalignment that I think will never get back to perfect again. Currently I have annoying tinnitus about 60% of the time and it's barely noticeable the other 40%. I've prob tried 3 other supplements that have not helped. I'm thinking these supplements don't help tinnitus from a neck/jaw misalignment, but I will give the Turmeric a try... I can't smoke or drink with my tinnitus because it makes it worse and I have to avoid certain foods with caffeine, etc... At least I'm sleeping now because I prob only got 75 hours of sleep in the first 3 months of this and the no sleep led to other problems. I'm lucky I have an easy life, but I made it easy.

I have a noise-induced tinnitus and have tried virtually every natural supplement you can think of.

I've been boiling turmeric tea daily from fresh turmeric. On top of that I add powdered turmeric to virtually everything I eat. Unfortunately, it is not helping my condition at all.

Just purchased some Turmeric and Curcumin. I will be starting off with 1 pill a day at 900MG. I will keep everyone posted.

@Dginobile how long before you noticed the Turmeric started working? Also each pill is 900MG, but it says take up to 2 pills a day (1800 mg), how many mg's did you take per day?

As I previously stated I have tinnitus kind of loud in my right ear for 4-5 days then it shifts to my left ear for 3-4 days and I barely notice it. I started taking Turmeric and the tinnitus would just stay in my right ear for 100% of the time.

Don't underestimate your ability to comprehend this:

Fx322 is a phase 1/2 small molecule drug that is being investigated as a candidate for hearing restoration in humans.

According to their patent, fx322 utilizes ly411575 or DAPT to induce this effect.

DAPT and ly411575 induce cochlear cilia to regrow by inhibiting/down regulating the pathway signalling of the notch1 protien. This has been proven in mice.

You cannot orally ingest ly411575 because it is toxic, hence the method of injecting it right into the eardrum, bypassing the bloodstream.

Curcumin, a component of the spice Turmeric, is a known notch1 inhibitor which is also non-toxic.

Therefore, is curcumin, in a large enough quantity, a viable candidate for the regeneration of cochlear cilia, and the restoration of hearing, and possibly a cure for tinnitus?

I am very interested in legitimate criticism of this hypothesis.
