Vitamin Supplement (Nicotinamide Riboside) Successfully Prevents Noise-Induced Hearing Loss

Sorry for the late answer. You need to ask @Heinrich_S7

I started taking Webber Naturals Reservatrol 200/25 mg with Grape seed, but I found that they only have 20% ie 40mg of trans-reservatrol in them (so I switched to 2*100 mg MRM pure Trans-Reservatrol) @Heinrich_S7 are you aware of this?
I did actually, a couple months ago I switched over to Natural Factors.

It's a Canadian brand, I'm unsure if it's available outside my home country. It has 250 Trans Resveratrol. Like Webber's, it's derived from Japanese Knotweed.

I stopped all other supplements about a week ago and started NR 2 days ago 300mg/daily. Yesterday was a a raging tinnitus day, today is as quiet as I get. I'll throw in updates as I go along.
So I have something to report back about. I have had a significant improvement in my hearing since I began taking this. Ever since the viral attack damaged my hearing and caused my tinnitus I've had a notch of around 50-55 dB at 6 kHz. I could hear it if I when using various tone producing apps. I noticed about 3 weeks ago I could no longer find the notch. I just did an audiogram at my Neuromod assessment that showed it at 35 dB at 6 kHz. This improve the happened some 8 months after onset.
No improvement in my tinnitus but the hearing thing is a big deal.

Coincidence? Maybe.

Well your OHCs improved but you still might have synaptic damage affecting your tinnitus. Still, that's awesome!

Is there any relationship between the healing of the OHC and recovery of whatever was damaged in the synaptic portion (I'm at a loss for the appropriate term)?

Probably? In terms of reducing the inflammation anyway. Sometimes damaged OHCs can recover if the damage isn't too severe (otherwise audiograms would never improve after SSHL). I don't see why the same wouldn't be true for synapses, though they don't tend to *directly* relate to each other (the synapses in "synaptopathy" are with the inner hair cells). I think reducing oxidative stress is key.

Read the thread and my head hurts... so people are still taking both Resveratrol and NR, or just NR?
Mine contains NR, resveratrol, quercetin and betaine anhydrous all in one. I don't put a lot of faith in it, but just want to do all I can to protect myself.

I'm still confused on what everyone uses on the dosages... one pill is 250mg, and I've seen "2 pills a day" to like 900mg... yikes.

So it sounds like 500mg/day minimum, no?
That's because no one knows who will benefit and what the correct dose would be. If you want a data point, I decided on 300mg twice daily eventually. But it's almost arbitrary that I picked that, honestly.

Thank you.

I wasn't confused "why" anyone was using their levels, it wasn't clear in reading the thread what the consensus was... which is good enough for me. :)

My previous response was precipitated by "it's too expensive to take 300mg a day." Which was a response to me saying it was the most expensive supplement I have encountered.

I'm not sure if @ajc is trying to say 300mg is too much in their opinion?

I believe you felt that 600mg of the NR helped you? Are you taking Resveratrol as well?
How about Lutein with Zeaxanthin?

Can you be my pharmacist... lol sorry, you know a lot about this.

I think NR helped me personally but I can't say that for sure or that it would help everyone. What it seemed to do for me is this: I have two high pitched tones: pure tone and cicadas. The pure tone was the louder and more intrusive of the two. It seemed to put the pure tone on the same level as the cicadas. I can't 100% say that NR (vs time, coincidence, etc because I was still fairly early) was what did it for me but it really seemed to. I did talk to someone else online (not here) who had tinnitus for a decade and said it made a dramatic difference for him. His was noise induced. It doesn't seem harmful for anything but the wallet so I think it's worth a try.

I didn't start taking Resveratrol until months later nor the Astaxanthin. I do not take Lutein. I'm not sure Resveratrol is helping or doing anything really. But I'm not taking a whole lot. Other people say it helps. This is such an individual condition, who knows.

Astaxanthin made music sound louder to me by about 10%. This happened in the first few weeks and then plateaued, unfortunately. I have kept those "gains" though so It was well worth it. It seemed to make my vision slightly sharper too, somehow (I can read signs earlier without the glasses i used to drive with). @Artazanasss seemed to have the same experience (he also has a good rationale for alternating it with Lutein). I believe we both had ototoxic damage so I'm not sure if that's part of why we had similar results. Fair warning, if you try this: Astaxanthin is why flamingos are pink. It might turn your stool red.

Lol red stool...I just had a work medical yesterday and was waiting for the question..."why is your urine specimen glowing flourescent yellow?" ;-). B complex, NAC, vitamins, Turmeric, etc....

NR ...600mg?
Astaxanthin...how much, guesstimate?

I'll try it for a month and see what happens...thanks.

@alex1975 are. You still taking some combo of these, any results from September?

Sinclair has posted about hearing and resveratrol study

Just ordered - and this stuff is not cheap - will update how it does for me, how long should I give it try? Usually I can tell if something helps with 10-14 days for me. Thanks for any input and/or suggestions.

I have been taking it for one year without changes in tinnitus or hearing.

I am using Resveracel that contains NR (300mg) / Quercetin (250mg) / Trans-Resveratrol (150mg).

@AfroSnowman Do you have audiograms showing the improvements or does this belong to the usual it cannot be checked and depending on the day I will give you a different answer.

What dosage are you taking? Have you taken anything that's had the same benefit or efficacy as your anti-fungal diet?

Would you mind saying exactly the amount, brands, and dosages?

Thanks.
I am taking TRU Niagen at the 300mg/day recommended dosage.

My story is that I had a sudden onset tinnitus with SSHL in the middle of the night last April. Based on the onset and symptoms ENT thinks it was viral. I had a noticeable gap at 6 kHz which measured at ~55 dB loss. This remained true for about 7 months. I would check my hearing at home now and again and could clearly hear the drop out at around 6 kHz. I tried this TRU Niagen and at about 5-6 weeks when doing my at home hearing test I could no long find the gap. I subsequently had an appointment with Lenire where they did a hearing test and sure enough the gap was gone and my hearing had recovered to around 35 dB at 6 kHz Could be a coincidence that it just took that long for healing to occur, but it was a good enough correlation for me to continue to pay the crazy price for the supplements. I'll keep on with these for at least a few more months and see whether any further improvements happen.

Are you also taking Resveratrol or just the TRU Niagen?

I bought Astaxanthin when it was mentioned... but I can't even remember who mentioned and whether it helped, sigh.
