Want to Quit My Job — What Can I Do After?

I paid for it with my 20s and my 30s. There was a lot of stress that I had to deal with back then.

Doing research is stressful, as is trying to publish one's findings. When I began teaching, I thought that my stage fright would disappear as I gain experience. It has been well over 10 years now, and I still find public speaking to be stressful. Perhaps I will feel better in another 10 years. When I was a high school student, I hated having to do class presentations, and having to write essays. One time I even got my family doctor to prescribe Ativan to sedate me before an important presentation. Now my job is to write research papers and to do presentations... Having said that, I am not complaining.

It's funny I would not guess that you are a teacher ! ;)

More like a solitary wolf, no offense !

And with your Tinnitus, does it bother you as a teacher ?

I would advise you not to change job just because of people. People can quit, or go in another department.. Maybe they won't be here next year.
If you want to quit because it is really boring you could find another job in another office no? You could also work from home. Some companies offer this kind of job. Or as a freelancer, but it really depends on what you are looking for.
I don't agree with that. Annoying colleagues are a fact of life but if you are being treated very badly it can sometimes permanently affect your health.
