What Is Your Favorite Hobby?

Perhaps you become an ENT, Audiologist, or find a cure to T. T and H need more public attention, this is something serious. I wish more young people knew how easy it is to damage your ears due to loud noise exposure.
I think Earbuds need to be banned!!

Personally I'd love to. I would love to go into a field of Audiology. Before I got H and T I did tutoring at schools with younger kids. Middle school kids. I had a good base of communication with the educators and staff. I was also good with working with kids. Maybe try awareness there? However, I know young children well and haha they don't listen nor care. Though, people think that it is hard to get kids to listen. Wrong. Its how you convey a message. It doesn't matter what the topic is. I can get kids who hate math to death, enjoy it. It's all how you convey the message. Everyones had that one funny friend or that inspirational teacher. They are just great messengers. I do believe that when you make something knowledgeable that people don't always turn a blind eye to it. It does take time though.

I'm glad that Tinnitus awareness reached a Ted Talk. That made my so happy.

My favourite hobby is listening to music. i used to and still am listening jamiroquai and lots of jazz things.

I also enjoying playing games including Thief2, bioshock1, L4D2 Overwatch, Cities: Skylines, etc. Someday Colossal Order would soon create another Sims, I believe, kust like they did a wonderful job on Cities game.

Reading is my favourite too. Usually my reading goes with my putting good senteces somewhere down. They say I'm making commonplace books which makes reading much more interesting. I really can't help myself whenever I see a logically brilliany sentences. So far my favourite books are Wuthering Heights, the Moomins(the first four ones), Crime and Punishment, Don Quixote, etc. Do you know of any good books to recommend me?

Learning languages too are quite fine. I have a hard time learning German and French words with grammatical genders and hopefully I'll study Spanish and Russian too.....

Piano is my hobby too. I really want to buy an upright piano(My ultimate goal is Yamaha U1)but my condition is such that I'm wavering between an accoustic and a digital one. Let's face it, they are really loud. :eek:Even as a child going to a lesson I used to use the damper pedal so soothe away the sound.:D

I have read every response thread in here and you all seem to talk a lot about travelling. I've never travelled myself and there is not a fair chance I'll go abroad, I think. If I had my money I'll think of going to Japan(great foods) and Russia, Germany and UK maybe.

If I can make my money I really should develop another hobby I can spend my money into... I thought about buying legos but it's quite unaffordable. If only I can get that beautiful Mearsk Train..

Sleep. Not so much the falling asleep part, not the waking up part, but actually being asleep.

I used to be much more adventurous...

I love music myself. Maybe not as exotic as other people on this thread but I keep an open mind. Haha but my H spiked yesterday due to too much bass in the music I was listening to. So I had to change the equalizer on my computer and change the type of music I am listening to. But it's all good. I was in need of a new genre :D.

I don't play many games. I play that old game RuneScape that everyone who is like 20 knows of in the U.S. I use to play Archeage... Untill I got banned LOL.

I would suggest the book Night by Elie Wiesel. It's about his personal experience in the Holocaust. It's a bit grusome of course, but a good and very well detailed book. I highly recommend it.

I would love to travel but my country (U.S.A) is gigantic and there's so much to explore. I want to see my home before I go anywhere else. But I'd love to travel to different parts of the world.

When I was young I use to play piano. My grandmother was a piano teacher for many years. I had a beautiful graceful touch when I'd play. It really does affect how everything sounds. The way your fingers hit the keys makes a words difference. But alas I no longer play. Beautiful instrument and I applaud anyone whom does play or ever takes a good wack at it.

I would really love to live up north of the states. I want to live towards some woodlands and some good hiking trails. I just want to explore. Sounds childish in a way but the idea of adventure and exploring the openness of my country. Just the thought makes me happy. I've always lived in the city but have spent much time outside in the country hiking, boating and just having a blast. I live in a place where there is sea everywhere. I love the water, but boy do I wanna explore woodlands.

Sleep is good. I do love to sleep myself. In fact I think everyone over the age of 13 loves sleep.

Drawing/painting. Photography.

I play piano and guitar, but a lot less now than I used to. I also used to make web designs just for fun and I really enjoyed it, but not anymore. To be honest, it feels as if I no longer do these things. :(

There are many things I use to have as hobbies over the years have just gone away.

But in the sense of hypercasusis and Tinnitus. It's not what you can't do. It's what you can do. When you love a hobby it's hard to move on once you can't do it anymore. But it isn't the end. I guess in the sense find a new hobby.

Photography and painting are a beautiful way to express ones self. So is dance and so is music. But expression and creativity is found in everything. Through speech, writing, the way you dress. Whether you no longer can preform those hobbies doesn't mean it's over. There's new things to try and places to explore. Something as small and graceful as calligraphy or room decor.

I think if anything's got you down or keeping you from doing what you love don't allow it. In things such as T and H. Be weary, but don't allow it to consume you and take away what you love most.

While I totally agree with you, T/H is not what's stopping me. Most of my hobbies require some imagination and inspiration that currently just isn't there. Sometimes a break is what I need to regain this.

I don't feel bored on a daily basis, to me, this indicates that other things fill up my time and life. Although I always wish I spent more time on my hobbies.

I'm just having a long "hobbyist's block" if one can call it that. :D

I definitely know that feeling. Especially when I'm writing something. Sometimes I just don't know how to put my imagination into words or just don't have much imagination at all.

my hobbies became too expensive and i had to give up most of them. now i have an apartment i have to pay for. not much money anymore for hobbies...

Hobbies can be inexpensive. Online shows and movies are inexpensive. Exercise is free (I'm not talking about the gym) many people find jobbing a fun hobby. Swimming is free depending on where you swim. I think a lot of nature filled activities tend to be cheaper or practically free.

You'll find something I know it :) just gotta find what you enjoy as a pass time.

Exercise. I have a pool about 50 or so feet from my terrace. Swim laps 5 days a week. I use ear plugs. Play basketball a couple of times a week. Have a life fitness stationary bike, which I don't use enough. ( Cost a pretty penny ). Push ups. I'm retired, and have to fill up my time. Exercise is imperative when you have tinnitus. Get's you off your tush, it's a healthy distraction, besides being a good thing for your mind, body, and soul. Actually, walking is all you need. 5 days a week for 30 minutes. This is what health professionals recommend. It also tires you out, which can help sleeping.

I am a ham radio operator. I am not as active as I once was but a friend went silent key (aka she died) and I am wanting to get back into it again in her memory.

I also love PC games from Homeworld to Sims to BigFish games. If I ever get around to saving up for a gaming computer, I'm never going to get stuff done!

I had two hobbies ~ reading and going to concerts. Now I have one. (Can you guess which?)

Although concerts are out of the question, I still love music. Mainly classic rock and blues. :headphone:

I do love books and I'm mainly reading literature nowadays. I used to read mostly philosophy. :bookworm:

I loved playing guitar and singing.
Enjoy every little crock of music, saturated with this full-energy sound of my guitar.

Now, unfortunately, this is impossible. I have not had a guitar in my hands for more than a year.

Sometimes I cry, remembering the times when I could play and enjoy the sound in all its glory without any interference ...

Exact. Same. I loved every little nuance of beautiful music with all my heart and soul. It was my entire life. But now I don't listen to music anymore and I haven't touched my piano in six months. To say I'm heartbroken is an understatement. This world can be so cruel...

I am a seamstress so I love sewing, I make everything in my house. I love to bake, pies are my life and I am still trying to perfect the perfect swiss roll =]. I collect perfumes (vintage), I love to read English novels, I also love to travel....I love camping/hiking...

I used to do woodworking as well but not anymore because of T =[. When I used to do it, i've made my dining table, my dresser...and kitchen cabinets...but now I cannot risk it sadly.

Video games and walking in nature.
Full contact karate was part of my favourite hobbies too but I got tired of it after several years of training... Looking for a new sport, maybe kayak or something like that.

I am happy I have stumbled upon this thread. There seems to be too much negativity in the spaces that occupy this site unfortunately, but general chat seems to be a break from it. I will mention hobbies that I am currently enjoying and not ones I have left behind. I feel that discussing the past or our limitations exacerbates our illness and in turn effects our mood and perception of tinnitus. The mind is a powerful thing and we should stay as positive as we can.

I enjoy:
Playing Guitar (acoustic and occasionally electric with the volume low)
Listening to music (Grateful Dead, Beatles, Hendrix, Perfect Circle, Chevelle, Karnivool, etc.)
Video Games (Currently playing world of warcraft since the new expansion just dropped)
Cooking
Watching TV / Movies
Going for nature walks
Reading
Learning

Hobbies I would like to try / do more:
Fishing
Cheese Making
Golfing
Traveling

I am sad to see so many fellow musicians give up their craft. If you are nervous about the instrument being too loud you can get an electric version of it such as an electric piano, acoustic guitar (with our without a sock stuck in near the bridge to dampen sound), or electric guitar (with volume low or no amp at all). Don't let tinnitus consume your life in unreasonable ways especially when it comes to something you love that you can still enjoy if you turn the volume down.

•Woodwork/metalwork. (less now, as this likely led up to the T) I have ear muffs now so that I can easily put them on/off if I'm going to be loud. Better than plugs for putting on/off with dirty hands, although they don't protect quite as much.

•Electric bass @ low volume or again with plugs. Funk is the preferred sound to have come out of it.

•Freestyle rap. Just try to turn your mind off and let your mouth say whatever it feels like. I don't think I'm gangster or that I sound good but I find that it can be therapeutic sometimes to just throw words at a wall and try to make them rhyme. Fun if nothing else!

•My favourite: Bicycle! Road bike just for transportation, and mountain biking for pleasure rides. I'm still young and stupid, and only in the last year or so I've realized how awesome being a brainless young adult is for smashing down trails and launching off drops and jumps. T has helped me be more reckless with myself on the trails. Before this I babied my body too much. Of course I should not go out and get broken, but through biking I've realized that my body is a tool that should be used. I use it for all of my hobbies and in exchange for doing the hobby, I receive fun, pleasure, and enjoyment. But over time a tool becomes worn. That's just the nature of a tool that gets used.

I only have whatever amount of years left on my clock. I want to make sure the tool (my body) is worn by the end of it.
That thought keeps me more accepting of my noise-induced T as well.

I love tabletop role-playing games! D&D, primarily. My high school friend got me into it when I was home from my freshman year in college. I then tried my hand at being the DM my junior year. I just graduated this May and I'm still with the same group. The worldbuilding, the writing, the interactions, the action - I love all of it! I even met my current girlfriend through D&D.

I also try to find time to jog every week, nowadays without headphones... but it's still great stress relief.
