Hello

I have posted multiple times past couple of weeks all about new problems wish my T. Every day is a new day and new challenge. Past couple of days I feel like I developed this weird low pitch sound of a car which is on and parked. It's constant. At first I thought it was just an auditory hallucinations because I have been stressed past three weeks. But no it's actually there it shifts from one side of my head to another. Also I have more sounds in my head. Fleeting tinnitus just keeps coming. I feel like new noises start and stop. Almost like someone lowers the volume up and down. I don't even know how many sounds but pretty noises up in there. It cones and goes. I woke up this morning. Which some high pitch sounds in my both ears. Then at night the loud sizzling sound would come and go 30 seconds a part in my head like on top of the head. On top of that I have anxiety and major stressing over it right now.

What's happening to me? :(

Sounds like the stress you are under is aggravating your tinnitus. Stress produces cortisol which can affect the auditory system if sustained over a period of time. The best thing you can do is try and calm your central nervous system down by doing something that can relax you. Try doing: yoga, a spa day, exercise, meditation, or anything else that could bring you down a notch or two.

Your senses - awareness - are likely heightened, meaning you're listening out too acutely because of the stress you are putting on yourself. You are essentially in a constant state of fight or flight which you need to get out of.

@sara
I am sorry to know you are going through such a difficult time with tinnitus at the moment. You have had this condition for quite some time. I agree with Ed209 about stress making the tinnitus worse. I suggest you also have a word with your doctor and see if you can be referred to a hearing therapist that does tinnitus counselling which should help.

I would like to ask you a few questions and hope that you don't mind.
Do you use your computer for long periods of time?
Have you noticed whenever you start using it your tinnitus increases after about 15 to 30 minutes? Or noticed if you haven't spent long on it for a day or two the tinnitus is less intense?
Some people with tinnitus are affected either by the EMF that it radiates or the high frequency noise as the internal hard drive rotates. This can cause some irritation to the auditory system and increase the tinnitus. Some people are quick to dismiss this because they are not affected in this way. Considering you have had tinnitus for quite a while in my opinion look at all options to see if anything helps.

Near field computer use does affect some people with tinnitus including me. I am unable us it in the conventional way that is "Near-field" be close up next to it. it is in another room and I use an external monitor, mouse and wireless keyboard. Please don't dismiss what I'm saying too quickly. As an experiment try not using your computer for a few days, or if you do, try to limit your use on it and see whether there is any reduction in the intensity of the tinnitus. I have two laptop computers and my tinnitus increases to very high levels within a couple of days of using them so have to stop. This might or might not work for you, but I think it's worth trying to reduce your PC use for a just for a few days.

On another forum I advised someone to try my idea and he noticed a reduction in his tinnitus within two weeks. Please take a look at a post I wrote on this subject: https://www.tinnitustalk.com/threads/computers-and-tinnitus.12059/
All the best

@Spaz Acidy i really don't know but the anxiety attacks that started all this started 4 weeks ago when it would wake me up at 5am w a rapid heart beat and a heavy feeling on my chest. And it progressed to this. Every day was a bit worse and worse. Specially that I can't sleep now and I wake up every 2 hours. It almost feels like I wanna wake up every 2 hours my body is so alert!!!! :( I really hope this goes away but every day is a surprise.

@Michael Leigh hi Michael
I totally see what you're talking about. I don't own a desktop but I am on my phone a lot and the thing is that my apartment the tv modem is extremely loud , so is the fridge, plus we have a Tv in the bedroom. It wasn't bothering me in the past though but I noticed it's bothering me now and I am so aware of all those sounds. It's honestly a weird situation. Specially for me because I have had tinitus for a year and half and I was completely fine with it. The sound was down and not bothering me until it started in my other ear. Then sleeping issues and anxiety and bam!!!!!! This developed. Every day is a surprise for me. I just want to be able to have a good night sleep without anxiety and wake up refreshed. But that hasn't been happening in the last month. :(

@sara
There could be some clues in what you've written Sara. If you are finding the noise surrounding you is irritating to your ears and auditory system, then this could be a sign of hyperacusis (sensitivity to sound) which can be very unpleasant and spike tinnitus and increase tinnitus. Your modem shouldn't be making so much noise.

If I were you try and get a replacement. The fridge too is not good if you have hyperacusis. I don't want to scare you, but I'm counselling someone that used to be unable to tolerate the the sound of her: kettle, fridge, washing machine or microwave as it spiked caused by her severe hyperaucusis. She is doing a lot better now. Do you hold your mobile/cell phone close to your ear? And if you do, how long is this for and how often are you on the phone during the day?
Thanks
Michael

@Michael Leigh

Hi yeah I don't know why this would happen though!

I usually really good with loud noises and it doesn't really bother me. Yea the modem is crazy loud. I am on my phone ALL THE TIME. lol. I am adddicted ! Part of it is that I am googling a ton of stuff about T. I sleep with my phone sometimes. It's close to my head right by my bed. I know this isn't good. Eeeeeeeekkkk. The sensitivity to sound you mentioned it doesn't hurt my ears though it's just that notice them more than I used to before. I get fixated on some noise and I feel like even there isn't any actual source of the noise. I still hear it. For example there is a new building been built by my apartment and it's very noisy and I feel like now I have that contruction beeping sound in my head. It's not pleasant.

@sara Thanks for your reply. I see you enjoy using your phone a lot. Do you hold the phone close to your ear? What I mean is do you make calls holding the phone close to your ear? If so, how often during the day do you use the phone to make calls or answer them?

Hello Michael

Thanks for your reply
I wouldn't say I use my phone to make a lot of phone calls and when I do yes I do hold it close to my ears.
I am constantly on it though. Lol

@MikeP505 haha

Yeah! I know but honestly I can't stop it's the urge for finding comfort and yes I know sometimes it does make it a lot worse. Thanks for the share of the link. I'll take a read.
