What's the Point? No Matter What I Try to Do, I Will FOREVER Have My Tinnitus and Hyperacusis...

Salut Christophe,

I feel with you.
I'm currently in holiday and having one bad day after another.
Bad days mean I hear the t as soon as I'm not heavilly distracted, this means even in a noisy car at high speed with music on. So I cannot enjoy the holiday at all, not a single day so far.
When a bird sings I faintly remember the feeling how easing and relieving this was to me prior to this.

Maybe you want to tell why your life is so cruel at the moment and how your T is giving you a bad time?

True I could move to Switzerland if I Really want to, but not get rid of this...
At least moving there doesn't require to loose your left hand. Not that you could be tinnitus free though by loosing it, but you get to read many similar statements of people that are willing to exchange their limbs for silence.

Hello Marlino,

Thank you for your message... :)

Are you still on Holidays ? Can you enjoy and rest ?

The thing is that I have other points to manage in my life, a body which is very tired and I have troubles with my joints, also due to tensions...

I am quite depressed since many years, to me it is quite hard to get up every morning to go to work...

But I know that I eat too much sugar these days... So I calm down the sugar from today ! I have to ! Otherwise I will get very depressed again... :(

Isn't that matched with your higher salaries?

It depends, I don't earn a lot of money and I have lots of expenses...

Would you be able to fix this problem if you were willing to take longer time (e.g., 45 minutes) to commute to work?

It the matter of getting up who is quite difficult... :(

Others have T AND don't live in Switzerland. ;)

Yes but it doesn't change anything about T...

Aside from the climate it's not that great. Expensive housing too.

Yes but the climate here in Switzerland is quite cold and grey... Not every day but quite a big part of the year...

And people get depressed about it, especially at the end of the year...

I think for the same salary in California you buy a house and in Switzerland you just rent a small appartment... ;)

Also the way of life I think is maybe better in California... ?

I can say this much, you might always have the tinnitus...but there is some hope for hyperacusis . I had horrible hyperacusis for close to 4 years, in the early years of my tinnitus ordeal. I went to a professional audiologist and it was a bit pricey and it did take close to 8-12 months of treatment. It was worth every penny for me and my quality of life improved a lot.

Don't ever lose hope, things can get better :)

.........You should really consider CBT. I would really, really, really, really, really strongly recommend it.

(Good) therapist if you can afford it, buy a book called "Feeling Good" and do all the exercises (!!!) Otherwise.

You have a model example of severely distorted thought process and your mood might improve significantly with proper therapy.

I defeated my, "tinnitus-induced", moderate depression with CBT and I can't stress enough how important it is to regain the feeling of being in control of your life that you seem to missing.

Half of a year ago I was crying, hugging table's leg and begging for the ringing to stop.

Today, I'm lying in my bedroom, reading in silence and the ringing is so far in the background I don't care about it.

I'm upset about it sometimes, but I quickly remind myself that life isn't fair and think about all the awesome stuff that happens to me.

I have regained this sense of inner peace, I hope you'll get to this stage soon.

All the best.
This (above) is very good advice.

Working with CBT, with a therapist, can really help patients to feel better, in a relatively short period of time, but it has been conclusively shown that people who use only CBT books can benefit greatly, as well. CBT is one of the most common forms of therapy used today, and is widely considered to be a very effective method of learning how to cope with all kinds of problems, including tinnitus.

Get the book that maltese recommends, Feeling Good, and if you can, one of Dr. Burns' other books, The Feeling Good Handbook. I have both, and am currently working my way through them, using the step by step instructions. You must do the written exercises, and incorporate the concepts into your mind. You can change the way you think, behave and feel, for the better.

For example, Schizophrenia is deep in the brain and can controlled by medicine, just like epilepsy. There are two examples.
Saying schizophrenia gets cured is as wrong as it can be. We don't even understand the brain guys, how could we possible expect there to be cures, it would have to be like antibiotics (when a scientist discovered antibiotic by an accident).

Yes I think Tinnitus is for life but indeed the clearly worst part is the Hyperacousis !

I am not sure if we have this kind of specialists here in Switzerland, they all seem so lost in front of this trouble...

I never said you can cure it I said some of the symptoms can be controlled

Last Friday, I was going to rent a car with a shuttle bus... And when I just went out of the bus, there was a very loud comprimed air coming out the engine, it was very loud ! :(

And I was just next to it...

I hope it didn't make my Tinnitus worse...

This is the reason I wear ear plugs or ear muffs when I am outside...

I can understand, but to me if I put all the time my earplugs on, my T is very strong inside my head... :(

And I don't want to do this actually...

But in the other side, I cannot avoid all loud noises... Especially "surprise" loud noises... :(
