What's the Point? No Matter What I Try to Do, I Will FOREVER Have My Tinnitus and Hyperacusis...

Everyone I saw told me : "You have to live with it !"
But never proposed me any treatments...

I have severe T & H. I "choose" to suffer less. I have been doing meditation and biofeedback. Those two can be totally free. Both so-called treatments have positive influence on the autonomic nervous system. It will take a lot of time and effort to see the results. This is a reminder that "Pain is inevitable; suffering is optional".

Well done @G61 I wish you every success with meditation and biofeedback.
Please let me know how you get on.
All the best

Look how fast technology advanced in thirty years, technology is improving exponentially.

I'm going into neuroscience in January and hopefully will learn more about tinnitus and in the future, contribute to the community.

I feel it calming when I research how tinnitus works, maybe you should try researching too.

I agree with Jodie. Technology has changed the world very quickly. When I was a child, I had to stand in the kitchen to talk on the phone which was attached to the wall by a short cord and there were nine other houses using the same line so we had to take turns. Now, each person carries around their own phone which is also a computer that tracks where they are and provides volumes of information!
I am not a doctor or a scientist or any kind of expert but I am optimistic about the future of technology as it relates to medicine. There are no surgeons who are talented enough to fix the complex injuries of my inner ear and brain. I think the cure for hearing loss, tinnitus and many other diseases will come from cell regeneration and technology is the catalyst. A cure may or may not come in my lifetime but I am hopeful for the younger people here.

Have you ever thought of wearing hearing aids? You look quite young in your photo but believe me they cut down the tinitus noise by half. I'm an old lady (71) with a fair amount of hearing loss. T was driving me nuts until I was fitted with hearing aids. It's just a thought.

Keep hoping as we all do. I try my best to be optimistic.

I guided rafts decades ago and I like to think back n what a fellow guide would say when someone had a complaint early in the trip "Not yet, please - there will be 5 minutes of allotted snivelling at the end of the trip". I came to this forum to see if others share symptoms and have any advice. I have had T for over 30 years (H for over 15) and hope to have it for 30 more unless there is a cure.

Thanks for your answer !

So do you feel better with those methods ?

Dear Sheron,

Actually according to the different ENT, I don't have any hearing loss...

But this summer I went to a hearing shop and did personnal earplugs... I didn't try them yet... Still using my wax earplugs for now... ;)

I am glad that hearing aids help you ! :)

I am 31 years old by the way... ;)

My T and H started back in November 2015... :(

I have an emergency appointment with the ENT this week, he'll tell me what treatments there are. Probably sound treatment. I live in Canada, all treatments are covered

I'm not sure if it went away, it just suddenly didn't bother me that much anymore... Quieter? Knock on wood.

Hello Jodie,

How was your appointment with the ENT ?

I hope it went fine !

All the Best

But in addition to that, do you do any relaxation ?
No, I dont know how to. I just take Benadryl to sleep at night, and melatonin. I haven't tried any treatments yet, I'm not gonna try anything until I see the ENT

For bad days I'll just take clonazipam. I try to hold off on the clonazipam incase I get addicted to it

I love the word Choose and everything it implies.

I choose exactly the same.

Hyperacusis is actually pretty treatable. Tinnitus not so much other than habituation but not so for Hyperacusis. Dr. Marzgharh in Los Angeles was very helpful in regards to Hyperacusis (Tinnitus eh, he could have been better). He has saved lives in regards to Hyperacusis ...people that depend on the music industry to survive. If you can't see him find a doctor that specializes in tinnitus and hyperacusis and know about it.

Have you tried meditation or anything similar ?

I used to take sometimes a Benzo, but I was very scared to get addicted to it...

I take an Antidepressant since the beginning of the year.

I haven't tried meditation... I just don't know what to do honestly. It's only been two weeks since it got worse . I heard benzodiazepines could lower volume of tinnitus, but when I tried it I think it only relaxed me, mabye a slight volume decrease? I don't know

How did your tinnitus react with your benzo?

My T came out of the blue I had nothing for the docs to go on not that it matter anyway there insight was not there but the doc told me to take benadryl at night and I was taking Tylenol PM so then I stop the benadryl when the doc gave me nortriptyline I have a loud fan but with anxiety I'll need something it's hard to fight it. I went to 2 ENTs got nowhere did 3 hearing test so I final went to a private hearing guy he gave me hearing aids with masker features and a remote to Lower or higher the sound with blue tooth. He was very knowledgeable. Did anyone have a Lyme's test done.

You can try a meditation class maybe... :)

I think it helped me just put the T and H aside for a while...
