  • Hi John, I saw some of your posts and see that you've had T for a while. I have it in 1 ear and its not too bad, but the fullness and sensitivity to sound is what gets me. It has given me the sort of attitude that I feel like i'm injured and will never be the same again. Is there any advice you can give me on how to sort of knock off this negativity and feel better again?

Sounds (pun intended) like we both have the same level in one ear. At least we don't have it in both ears. Can you imagine? -- If you have a passion for something, I suggest jumping on it to redirect your energy. That along with meditation, exercise, and a good diet will do wonders.

Thanks for the advice. It feels good to speak to someone with the same issue that has a positive outlook!

My pleasure Phil. Now find your passion and leave T behind. -- Most rock stars and many famous people like David Letterman have and so can we! :)
T still there but not as intense. Maybe the beginning of habilitation. - My better diet and exercise is definitely helping.

Or your tinnitus has just decreased in volum?
    John Meyers
It seems to have decreased a little but every time I mention that, it goes up again. -- Therefore, I going with "not as intense" today.. :)

Good times. A clean diet and exercise will certainly help! Here's to progress o/
What junk food were you eating?
    John Meyers
Cookies, birthday cake, brownies, pizza, sub sandwich, mac & cheese, etc. :) -- I also started snowblowing today without ear plugs and then put them in after 5 minutes. I should have put them in from the start since I was doing pretty good today until I did that. Now Mr T is bring pretty loud.

It's all the wrong food I know but we all enjoy it. And for those ear plugs the times I've forgotten to put them in and suffered later.
Hanging in there with a steady 5 to 6 (out of 10) volume level and staying positive.

Try not to rate the volume. I know it sounds impossible but it helps no one in the end. Hoping for the best.

Read the "back to silence" method since the beginning. It's a big thread, but will help you. I'm still not good at it, but I find it helps a lot. I actually printed some of the advices there and leave it handy when I'm feeling bad.
how is your T MR. John
How did it start and then what happened ?

(1 of 3) As much as I wish this 80-90% stat was true, I believe it's either made up, or extremely skewed because it accounts for the many people recover within one week. If you still have your T after a month or two, the chances of it miraculously going away are very slim.
    Lloyd Carter
(2 of 3) Not impossible, no, but very very slim. I've been to two ENT's (one that has T himself) who see hundreds of cases a year, and they both said the same thing. I remember @Markku, who created this site and knows a ton about T, saying that if it's still there after a few weeks, it probably is there to stay.
    Lloyd Carter
(3 of 3) If it's there after a couple of months, you'll likely hear it forever. That being said, I think it's better to accept and learn to live with it. If it does go away, that's just an added bonus! I am in the same "one concert" situation as you. I've come to accept that the 80-90% statistic people have thrown around is absolutely unfounded and nonsense. Not trying to be a downer, just realistic!
    New to this "T" Thing

I'm thinking that the number of people that recover between 6 and 12 months is few and far between, but I hope I'm wrong! Take a look at the success stories here. There are 1-2 people that fully recovered in that range and the rest were either within a few weeks or they habituated.
    Lloyd Carter
TRT! Now you're talking my language! I'm a realist and realistically your chances of "habituating nicely" with TRT are very high. Either way, I pray for you to have a speedy recovery, no matter how it happens!

Thanks Lloyd. I am already communicating with Northwestern University here in Chicago. -- They usually want T sufferers to wait 6 months but I am trying to get in early. -- I'm still praying that my T will disappear but can't hurt to try TRT just in case it doesn't.. :)
